    I’ve been running in Altras for about 2 years ago and love them. I got the Via Olympus in December and didn’t run much in them at first. About a month ago, I hit 80 miles in then and they finally started feeling broken in! They’ve been amazing to run in over the past month and I’m running in them more and more. They were so firm at first but after a good bit of miles, they become more responsive!

      what are your thougts on durability? I used to loooove the Paradigm but lately I've been disapointed in the quality, they felt flat and without cushioning after just 25-30km (15-20 miles) ... so I changed to Hoka Bondi 8 wide. Not very wide at all but the cushioning is excellent and it doesn't fade like in the paradigm.

      @@DieKuche I’ve got no issues with the durability of this shoe. They’re holding up well. They are, however, the polar opposite of the Bondi in how they feel. If you really enjoy the ride of the Bondi, you will probably find the Via Olympus a bit firm.

    I love the shoe!!! I switched from Hokas to it. It took two weeks for me to break them in. With the 0 drop my calves and achilles we're sore over the first two weeks. By week 3 it felt amazing. I have an extremely wide foot. I suffered from plantar fasciitis and this is the first shoe in 9 years the my plantar hasn't flared up from.

    Matt, you've run Boston so many times, you should make a video for us first time Boston'ers. I.e. covering basic logistics... how to get to the bus area, what time, what food to take, how long you'll walk from your wave to the start line, bag check, everything! Seems so much to keep track of for first timers.

    • @its_Matt_B_
      @its_Matt_B_  Год назад +1

      That is an excellent idea, Haroon, but I don't experience Boston the way others do because I stay with family while I'm there. The only reason I've done the race so many times is because I get to visit them. I usually get a ride to the start and I've never checked a bag! I've seen a few videos about the whole process, so I know they're out there!

    I like the Altra fit and the EgoMax foam feels nice on the Torin 5. I don't mind a little bit of a firm midsole as my More v4 is actually a little too soft sometimes. It's the weight that is the deal breaker for me. Most of the max cushioned shoes are in the low 10 oz., even with more stack.

    • @its_Matt_B_
      @its_Matt_B_  Год назад

      The Torin have a softer formulation of the EgoMax foam and these ride much firmer. Yeah, I get what you mean about the weight, however when you wear shoes my size a 10oz shoe feels like a feather. 🤣

      @kuriosites Год назад +1

      @@its_Matt_B_ I'm always thinking in terms of reference weight. I'm a 10.5 in Altras but at a bodyweight < 140 lbs., that's a heavy shoe. The Torin is only 9 oz. (ref. wt.) and not that much less stack.

    Altra is a brand that I am yet to use. I did a Strava challenge that gives me $23 discount for Altra shoes, but they excluded the shoes I am interested in, or the discounted models from coupon use and the rest does not make economic sense buying directly from Altra even with the coupon. Who knows, the brand may be the diamond in the raw. 💎

      I actually just recently did get them 😊 guess I was looking for some validation 😂 they seem to be pretty polarizing. I often find people love or hate them. I personally really like mine alot. I am a new runner (more of a jog rather) and find they do everything I really wanted new shoes for a new activity to do. They also ended up being a great shoe to wear to work as I'm on my feet walking 8 to 10 hours. Zero drop was necessary for me as they allow me to pump my calves more. I have a vein issue in my calf, and the Dansko clogs I was wearing felt great, a matter of fact I felt nothing. But feeling nothing meant foot and calf weakening for me which contributed to some progressing vascular issues. I also think being in those very stiff clogs with no pillowy feeling made these feel fairly squishy to me. They're a solid "Goldilocks zone" for me. I'd been wearing zero drop shoes outside of work though but wanted something comfortable for that purpose but also that could be a great trainer, walker, jog/run shoe. These shoes really fit the bill for me. Something that doesn't get talked about as much is I have a friend who is a heavier person and she loves these and was the one who recommended them. She had tried various Hokas and the midsole often collapsed early using them as a daily wear all purpose shoe for her. She said these still feel very new so I expect they will last me quite a while. The price still kind of makes me nauseous 😂 but if they last, I feel it's a solid investment. Great video! 🙏

      @@NikkiLee524 Yes, these shoes have had a polarizing response from the reviewers, but it’s important to remember each reviewers thoughts and opinions are only valid for them. That slight rocker was more delightful than I ever expected. But looking forward to the cooler temps to get them back on. For now, I'm living in my Xero HFSIIs. 😊
