      @chokethewoke3412 Год назад

      Okay even if that's true. You do realize that he's also a product of the world-changing where big & pac didn't have social media or Beyonce or booze or cologne. You feel me there's a difference. And in those days when they were still alive wasn't no one even talkin about Jay-Z in the top 25 let's be honest. Again we're talking more about the imagery than the lyrics. Jay is in any top 10 discussion for sure. B.i.g. dropped only two albums and he still regarded in any top three conversation to this day. That type of impression on the culture is undeniable! See the difference. plus he was stealing all of B.i.G. lines after he died and that's a violation in hip hop. Plus oh yeah he never loses points for getting totally cooked by Nas and the biggest rap beef of all time? Come on now y'all not being honest with yourself! Beyonce elevated him to this status he now became more marketable now crossed over to average casual pop fans because of them loving her music. And as the money stacked all of a sudden he's the goat? People cant equate who has the most money as the greatest! And then other factors go into it like image style marketability things like that I get it. I'm just saying after he dropped his first few albums which pretty much everyone considers his best and classic albums no one in hip-hop was calling him a goat! And then over the next twenty years he perceives to drop half-a-dozen decent albums and that's enough to elevate him to goat? Sorry I don't see it.nas still releasing fire albums and getting Grammy nods left and right every time he does. No one's got him in the goat Convo why? Cuz he's not walking around with the hottest chick in the game and he's not as marketable but that's not rapping. The whole brand thing is fairly new in the last 10 to 15. Back-in-the-day what made you relevant was only the music! A lot of you might be young and don't remember there was a time when rappers were the farthest thing from marketable. Nobody wanted to attach a rappers name to what they were selling.But they still stay relevant in in the goat conversation how? Just their music that's how!! Music. Music is very rare and special it it's basically a time machine! If you hear a certain song you can transport you back to a certain time and place where you remember listen to a certain song drive around with your homies in your first car well with your girl or whatever it's extremely nostalgic and can make you feel a certain way why you reminisce about where you were the first time you heard the song or how many times you pump the song driving in one of your first whips! That's what music can do. But we start bringing marketability and all this stuff into the mix nobody's thinking about the first time they drank Jay-Z signature vodka or or where you were when Jay-Z madethe Forbes list! Only the music can do that. So if this is a strictly music Convo why does everyone constantly bring up his money and the brand? Because as far as the music goes there's dudes out there like DMX who sold more records than Jay when they released albums the same year. And I'm not making the case with DMX I'm just saying when tell a white people considered great albums came out he wasn't even shown the most albums that year. But then you bringing all the other stuff that I was talking about into the fold and it puts him at another level with people. Jumpits just strictly about the music hes great but not the greatest. I'm not trying to hate I'm just trying to make the discussion a little more valid if we strictly talking about bars.

    LL and Jay both have massive catalogues. I'd personally go with LL in a Verzuz though. To me he embodies the essence of true hip hop, especially with his earlier releases. Most people only know him for his commercial hits, but he has some of the most hardcore and grimy album cuts that would give Jay a run for his money. I think LL has better stage presence too. That helps if he actually has to perform his records. On the other hand, I think Jay is using his money to make the media push this narrative that him and his wife are the greatest at what they do. Think about it. They both were ranked high on Billboard and Rolling Stone lists before the people that paved the way for them and did more respectable things in music. I truly believe Jay had something to do with Michael Jackson being ranked #86 on the Rolling Stone list. He always says his wife is better than MJ. See. He's always trying to push a narrative. He's a strategic guy.

Beyonce has done the same same but she sings so it's somewhat different but same principle- which more than likely has something to do with her husbands influence or inspiration in the practice. Here's a hint: Limp Bisquit with the crossover song for numbers, then right after Pac and Biggie's passing- He came out with a song using Biggie's Bars and then he came out with a song biting the entire concept and lyrics to Pac's concept song Me and my girlfriend a la Bonnie and Clyde. It was his third album, 1998’s Vol 2 Hard Knock Life that made him finally pop off thanks to that Annie Sample on the title track and the DMX feature on Money Cash Hoes. I am grateful Melle Mel has hit the nail on the head. The reason why people always say JayZ is #1 is because of his success apart from the music itself.
    But my question has always been, we are talking about the music here, the music only. But hey people will bend any rule to make Jay fit in. So they say he has multiple classics (in my book he has only 2 HipHop classics - Reasonable Doubt and The Blueprint). They will say he lived his lyrics (dude, 50, Eminem and a lot of these cats also lived their lyrics). Then they'll say this that and the third but overall we all know that Jay always gets a pass because he is extremely successful and powerful and because he is married to Beyonce.
    Let's not get it confused people. Jay is extremely talented and he should be on anyone's Top 10 but he is not the #1 rapper. Trying to say someone is #1 is quite hard because it depends on a number of factors and the era also plays a role in this

    That something is consistency and more importantly valuing quality over quantity. Jay has damn near a flawless catalogue with multiple classics (at least 3).
    I believe as Jay grew older and matured he understood that his core audience is also growing older and maturing and ultimately his music would have to mature as well. I think thats why Jays fanbase is so loyal and why he has been able to maintain his consistency. I also believe thats why guys like 50, Nelly, Ja and many others weren't able obtain that type of consistency musically. 50 is a prime example. Its hard to continue talking about shooting up the block or "shorty wanna twerk that merk that" and then do red carpet interviews with the Gweneth Paltrows of the world. That's not going to resonate with the younger audience and it not going to resonate with your core audience who would have grown past that phase.
    That's the thing I appreciate about Jay, is that his music throughout his career always accurately portrayed the phase of life he is in.

    There's a few things that I feel that make a lot of people gravitate towards Jay-Z. First I think a lot people feel Jay-Z come up story is relatable. Single parent household, growing up in a certain environment, trying to get out that environment. Second I feel like aside from Snoop Jay-Z is the few older artist who embraces the new generation. People like Melle Mel are looked at more as "old heads" opposed to "ogs". And last when you hear rapper's like 21 savage talk about how Jay paid to get him out of jail and him not being on roc nation or lil baby talk about how Jay walked with him and other qc members while Beyonce walked with security or him inviting asap ferg over to just chop it up speaks volumes.

    Jay-Z if we strip down the business and wife image and then you look at his rap style. His lyrics are like a treasure hunt because of his mastery of poetry devices. People who aren't fans just never paid attention well in the poetry segment of English because if you did you'd realize he's not just up there in Rap lyrics but also with all the great poet scholars 😂. Enough on him.
    LL has stage presence, blaze battle mastery, knows when to be cool, serenade the ladies and knows when to go hard for the rough heads. In your face metaphors and a master visual storyteller.
    These two would be like Iron Man vs Batman 😂 if you take away their outside accolades.
