I say this stuff to students all the time. I 'played' a lot before I had a kit, imagining my hands and feet as the relevant instruments, listening to music and trying to work out how to play stuff. Hugely important skill, especially as a way to learn to imagine yourself into the role you want. Kick foot on the floor, hands playing hats and snare, left foot doing what it needs to do... Kids are often surprised at how musical it can sound, especially once you have the imagination in play.
You posted this at such a perfect time for me man. I just got a job that travels 100% of the time, so I can't practice on my kit while I'm on the road 😢 I took my sticks with me just to kinda play against the hotel bed when I have time.
Life comes in phases. You'll have time where you can practice a ton on a kit in the future. Until then, get a practice setup together for travel and make it happen!
