- At 10 lanes, the Port Mann is the widest bridge in the world, crossing the Fraser River and connecting the communities of Coquitlam and Surrey. It took four years to build, but you can watch it take form in less than two minutes.
I grew up driving the old one when the lighting was on the railings! Watched the new one go up with my kids and drive it every day now. Had no idea it was the widest bridge in the world. Super cool man!
TY!
It is a *beautiful* bridge! and truly a pleasure to drive on.
Thx for posting this. I cycle over the Portman bridge weekly. It's nice to remember how it wss
Watching The Cranes Getting Collapsed at 1:17 Is Really Cool :D
Oh I remember this from the CoQuitlam side. Would go down there once in a while to see how the bridge was progressing.
Thanks for your comment! There are many factors that we take into consideration when building a large project like this and how the infrastructure fits in with current and projected community needs is one of them. We try to place the money into infrastructure in immediate need with the idea that construction and funding for a larger project, such as the construction of an LRT would be addressed when the need arose to connect communities in this way.Hope that helps!

Thanks Gary. I think we'll have a few more time lapses in our future. :) Please let us know if there's any videos you'd like to see from us in the future.
Sure, the NDP's new George Massey tunnel
Great timelapse Ministry of Transportation of British Columbia :D
I get to work on this bridge via rope access and it's pretty cool. Quite Honoring.
I was the guy removing the chains down below.
The cool part of the time lapse is 0:46 watching the north tower pillar going up and the tower crane getting higher :D
I like that video. The bridge has at least 8 lanes for traffic to be fast.
2 Tower cranes to be needed to get the con create pipe up
What is the dead end left between the old and new bridges, seen in the last shot? Is it an abandoned or future plan for a slip/ramp onto the bridge?
The part you asked about the dead end left between the old and new bridges is reused for local traffic lanes between Surrey and Coquitlam for westbound Highway 1.
I think the new Port Mann looks cooler then the old one.
Nah
That's the point
Hi Kevin. The plan is to remove and recycle it. You can find out more on the pmh1project website. Click on the FAQ in the Info Centre. Hope that helps.
I got a bridge bigger than that.

there’s this really cool button… man you’re gonna love when i tell you about it…
Here's a concept. Next time you spend 3 billion dollars. Maybe it would be a good idea to alot space/structure for a future LRT/Skytrain. So that we don't have to spend a billion dollars on that in the future. You see if you combine them into one you save money and it makes sense. Sorry that just seems too logical.
Here's a concept. Learn how to spell 'allot'.
bro made a sky road so we could drive on water why you salty 💀
Design failure thanks to the ice bombs smashing cars
Cheering jobs created by government is a terrible idea. It makes it more expensive for taxpayers.
