  • Clutch cleaning and belt change on a 2019 Polaris Sportsman 850 SP. I have since taken the machine out on some good rides and it works like a charm, belt bites quick and normal. So far so good

    I think it time for me to clean my clutch, and just got my outsider motor company gasket and have had the whole air box under no problem.

    Hey, thanks for this detailed video! I just got the same exact 'badass' belt you put on your 850. I haven't installed it yet but I wanted to get your input on how well the belt has been working for you vs stock and if you'd recommend someone getting it over the standard OEM belt? I was getting ready to pull my clutch cover and get everything cleaned up and replace the belt anyway, so this video has been super helpful to me. I've got a 2020 sportsman xp 1000s and while I think all of them are like this... the damn clutch engagement after starting and shifting into gear is SO rough. Every time I start it up and put it into gear, I press the throttle and it revs like in neutral for a couple sec before the clutch engages, hard. I assume it's set to wait for specific RPM range or something? I baby it but maybe I just need to give it more throttle out the gate, idk. Any insight?

      I am definitely happy with it so far, engagement is smooth and not jarring like you described. As comparing it to stock. I can't tell any difference with engagement, I think the bad ass belt is just tougher?
      If you have to rev really high before the quad goes anywhere then it sounds like your belt is slipping. Did you get into some deep mud or anything where your clutch and belt could have gotten dirty like mine? If so clean it up, put in a new belt and break it in. Should engage much smoother and at a lower RPM. Other question is does your quad have a clutch kit on it? If so then I know that would make it so you have to Rev higher before it engages.
      Tried not to ramble too much hope this helps

      @@RideTheEarthnow Thank you for the input! So I noticed that if I dont baby the throttle and just hit it at more of medium pressure, it seems to engage much more smoothly. I got this one second hand so I have no idea if it has a clutch kit or not...any way to tell? Previous owner may have done some mud riding but it isn't set up with air and exhaust moving for in water type riding. I do plan on cleaning the clutch up and replacing the belt so I'll have more insight once I get in there.
      I also saw where someone opened up the shifter connection area and force pushed that little spring a bit so it was just a little bit shorter than OEM and it significantly improved the shifter ability to where it didnt feel like you're about to break it off just by putting it in park or high. Vid in question: ruclips.net/video/i-xoP_io2U4/видео.html . What do you think about this? That's my only other complaint with this ATV is that damn shifter.

      I will check out that link later but if it is hard to shift that is another sign it is clutch/belt related. I would clean the clutch area and make sure the one way bearing spins freely. The metal part inside your primary. That should spin freely. That being dirty and stuck along with a bad belt are the main causes for your issues. So I wouldn't mess with that spring thing you sent. Clean up the clutch make sure the bearing spins. Put on the new belt and see if that fixes it. 🤘🤘🤘 I had a 2010 sportsman xp that was super hard to shift. New belt fixed that quickly. Not to say that is your exact issue but it is the most likely culprits.

    Good Stuff. Only like 40 miles on my 850 so I have a bit of time until I check out my belt. Any reason to go with that aftermarket belt instead of another OEM Polaris one? Looking forward to the fluid changes. My friend did the rear differential fluid like 3 times in a week because there were quite a bit of metal shavings in the fluid. Wondering what yours will look like.

      Thanks, I went aftermarket on the belt just based off of some good reviews, figured I would give it a try. So far so good. The fluid video is coming. Surprisingly they weren't that bad. Just a bit of shavings on the drain plug magnet. Nothing excessive or anything to worry about.

    Couldn’t you just clean it on the spot? Why the hassle

    • @RideTheEarthnow
      @RideTheEarthnow  15 дней назад

      it worked on the trail but when i got home all that coal soot and mud dried and that is when it started slipping. you can clean it on the spot but i was jsut on a day trip so that would be much more hassle to clean it in the parking lot without all the proper tools and or a jack. plus then i couldnt make you this sweet informative video ha ha ha.

    You put the belt on backwards

      Not sure if you are joking around or not but the belts aren't directional. If there are arrows on them they are just meant to help you if you take it off and put it back on so you put it on the same way.
