@3:35 he blocks a guy causing him to stumble out of bounds and then comes back to the play and blocks another guy who gets the feed from the block.....crazy.....he has blocks some of the strongest dunkers in NBA history
Mutombo was never a world class offensive player, but I always felt like his contributions to that side of the ball were grossly undervalued. He was always good for an efficient 10 to 14 points a game, in addition to what he gave you in terms of rebounding and defense. I'm so glad I grew up in the golden age of insanely talented centers. To think, I got to watch some of the greatest giants battle it out in the paint on a nightly basis as a kid. To think this one era had Shaq, Olajuwon, Ewing, David Robinson, Mutombo, Alonzo Mourning, and even to a slightly lesser extent guys like Brad Daugherty, Kevin Willis, Vlade Divac and Avydas Sabonis were still unbelievable post players.
I admire Dikembe's passion for the game, but what counts it most is his social responsibility in his countrymen that he has a commandment that sticks to his heart... Love for humanity and in need
It makes me sick knowing just how greedy and selfish people of this country are while literally hundreds of millions of other people around the world are lucky if they just have clean water to drink, food to eat or medicine for use so they don't die from things we consider minor illnesses/problems here.
I give him mad props, though he got dunked on a lot by shaq and other guys, he blocked a lot of shaqs shots to, risking his body, not many centers today do that.
I wouldn't call it "getting dunked on alot". I just think it was a big deal when he did get posterized. He spent far more time diverting and blocking shots than getting dunked on ; )
mutombo blocked shots the right way, he tried to keep the ball in bounds and truly anchored every defense he was a part of. arguably the best rim protector to ever do it.
As a raptors fan, I remembered when our team took on philly in the playoffs, I never worried about Iverson scoring 50 points a game, I always felt like we had more fire power than Sixers, but Mutombo's presence under the basket was one thing we could not overcome, but still I liked his game.
Excatly. He started play late in NBA. Dennis Rodman was 25 years old too when he started play in NBA. 25 years old man is sometime old. Dikembe should come to play in NBA 4-5 years earlier.
@@drlight6677 I can accept when somebody is 22 years old, because is still young and usually players start between 20 and 22,but 25 years old player starting play in NBA is bit late in my opinion. Everybody has own opinion and I accept that. If they say that Obi Toppin is old maybe this mean that they are crazy.
THE GREAT Dikembe Mutombo! Man, they just don't make 'em like this anymore. I miss the big dominant Centers. Always has been my favorite position in basketball. Hell my 7 to 10 all-time favorite players in NBA History are Centers. THEN, I start with everyone else😁
I remember exactly the 2001 Finals. A very good friend of mine used to tape every game between the Sixers and the Lakers and we would watch this series a lot. Shaq go away with many elbows and offensive fouls...if you hand out 2 fouls early to Shaq, the series would take another direction. I am not saying that the Sixers would have won, but Shaq would have to adjust and maybe play basketball instead of throwing elbows and shoulders into Mutombo's face and chest. I think the refs did a terrible job in letting Shaq smack Mutombo around as if they were wrestling...
I recall a pick up game at a local park in Glendale Arizona there was a team that I was playing against they were from I am assuming from Nigeria I was going in for a lay up and one of them guys blocked my shot and shouted (mutumbo) and shook his finger at me , mutumbo was an icon and a roll model to all the people of Africa .
he should've won a ring before his career came to an end, he was a beast on defense, that 3 blocks in a row was raw, & after every block he wagged his finger.
How does he have 4 dpoy but only 3 all defense first teams? I mean I see he was on the second team once but shouldn’t the dpoy be on the first team every year? I’m pretty sure that’s how it works for the MVP and the All NBA first team
I still remember when I was a teenager and was playing in a summer league, I blocked a kid and wagged my finger after like Mutombo. People were cracking up. He was my favorite center as a kid. Him, Shaq, and Hakeem The Dream.
I thought he was often overlooked. Georgetown produced a few great centers in Ewing, Mutombo and Mourning. Guys who protected the paint and were not afraid to be put on a poster. They got dunked on, no doubt, but more often than not they would block the shot. Shaq bested Mutombo in the 2000 finals but that was an old Mutombo. A Nuggets or Hawks Mutombo would’ve been a different story. I miss the days when monsters patrolled the paint and the lane wasn’t wide open like today.
My favorite NBA player, did so much good with his fame and wealth. Made a hospital in his home country, what a great human being!
That is why he the best
@MAN UTD the fuck does that have to do with this video or any of the comments? GTFO
@MAN UTD you gone off the plot bro, Dikembe a GOAT what you talking bout?

Oh my God !! Blocked by Mutumbo
too funny
That is crazy embarassing @3:03 when they had 3 shots to the basket and he keeps blocking them wagging his finger each time he blocks the shot.
Maurice Jones LMAO THAT WAS FUNNY TO WATCH. GLAD YOU POINTED THAT OUT
hahahaha hahahaha fucking hilarious he waves his finger every block 😂
@3:35 he blocks a guy causing him to stumble out of bounds and then comes back to the play and blocks another guy who gets the feed from the block.....crazy.....he has blocks some of the strongest dunkers in NBA history
Not embarrassing when it's Mutombo doing the blocking!!!!!!🤔
it’s not clear here but I believe he actually blocks four shots in this sequence!
Dikembe's finger wag has got to easily be one of the most iconic moves in basketball history.

Probably because the refs would call it a foul

Cameron Ortiz
every center gets dunked on
YOu ONLY become a great shot blocker if you dont give a shit about getting posterized, dumbfuck
Dikembe be like "ACCESS DENIED"
When i look at the old school highlights and compare them from todays style of play...i still choose the old ones cause its exciting.

Andrew Everson yup. Just like Bill Russell, when you beat somebody’s shit, keep the ball in play.

Lebron waking up in the middle of the night in cold sweat thanking it was just a dream and Dikembe doesn't play in the NBA today.

I love the pride he took in his shot blocking. He made it an art.
Today most of these blocks would be called fouls, simply by body to body contact.
So what, it's a mans game not pussies.
hee would also get a technical for the finger wave
Jermaine Morgan mj got a tech for waving it at dikembe after dunking on him
That's cause the NBA has gone soft.
That was back when NBA players were allowed to play like real men.
NO NO NO!! NOT TODAY!!
Shut the fuck up

Dang, he really fought the big dudes: Shawn Bradley, Gheorghe Muresan, and Rik Smits
Mutombo is the greatest shotblocker I've ever seen play in the NBA. Serge Ibaka was the next Mutombo
Weatherspoon got three blocks in a row. "WTF?!" Mutombo: "Finger wag got me tired!"
he went to our school to talk! it was inspirational and he was so tall lol
I still remember listening to our local radio station here in Denver KS 104 & hearing he was traded from the nuggets. I was shocked.
I love watching these big men. Especially big men in 90's and early 2000's

True animal monster..
You can't consider your self an NBA player if you haven't been blocked by Mutombo.
Dekembe play one hundred percent defense and I love it when he block those shots
Best rim protector ever. If he was below the rim you just won't score the basket.
