FIX: CD/DVD Can't Read Or Write In Windows 7/8/10

- How to overcome the issue of CD/DVD ROM not being able to read the CD/DVD. A simple step involving the registry editor. no Fuss and very quick, just restart after doing it.
Path In Registry:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE ＞ SYSTEM ＞ CurrentControlSet ＞ Control Class ＞ 4D36E965-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318
This tutorial will apply for computers, laptops, desktops, and tablets running the Windows 10, Windows 8/8.1,Windows 7 operating systems. Works for all major computer manufactures (Dell, HP, Acer, Asus, Toshiba, Lenovo, Samsung).
If your computer cannot burn discs, try using a different type of disc. The type of disc you use for burning must be compatible with the type of disc drive in your computer; that is, you cannot burn a DVD-R disc in a drive that does not support DVD-R technology.
For testing purposes, try a few different brands of CD-R (compact disc recordable). CD-R discs are supported by all recordable disc drives.
Why try another disc? There are many different brands and types of writable discs with unique burning properties - some perform better than others. Your disc drive can adjust various properties of the laser and disc rotation to match the properties of the disc, but it may not be able to find a match with some batches of recordable media.

What does this actually do?
There were no upper or lower filters in the location, and still I cant see it on command prompt diskpart

In the last file in my Registry, there were neither Upper nor Lower Filters to delete. I have Win10.
I tried this, and there were no filters on the list to delete? My CD/DVD player is built in to my PC and it runs Windows 10. Other CDs from the same company work fine, but this one was created to work on Vista or earlier. It won't automatically load, and when it's inserted into the drive, the drive doesn't show up either. I can remove it and load another CD, and it works fine. The one that's not working is an original CD. I've also tried the manufacturer's suggestions, and since I can't see the drive on the system folders when I load it, then I can't access it to even open the folder to follow their instructions. Any other suggestions? Thanks for any help you can offer

Ironically this is EXACTLY why I need my DVD ROM to work! To finally upgrade to Win 10!

Using Windows 7, my folder didn't have the filters. My dvdrw drive will instantly detect a CD and play it, but acts like there's nothing in there when I pop in a DVD.
1:57 there is no file named lower and upper filters, how am i supposed to delete them if they don't exist?

I deleted the filters, and at first it seemed like it was going to work, it was reading them for the first time in forever. Then it just stopped again. Any advice?

WORKS!!! PC didn't auto open/play DVD/CD, and wouldn't grant permission. Also chose Windows media player as default

It is not an easy topic, it is more like 30%, and it is disproportionately high given these kids are more likely to give up, not follow directions proprtly, don't like my voice, ect. and dislike the video, as opposed to those it works for. Sad reality.

Hi.. I have a disk that when placed into DVD Drive E it now comes up raw, asking for an app to open it. It was fine before, I just used to insert it into the drive and it would read, why won't it read now?
How about if my device is a BDDVDRW CA21N Optical Drive, should I change the Name Type Data from CDROM to BDDVDR CA21N?
Problem: My internally installed Hewlett Packard BDDVDRW CA21N Optical Drive will write music to a new DVD-R disk, but 'NOT' to new CD-R or CD-RW disks?
The BDDVDRW CA21N Optical Drive won't even show that a new CD-R or CD-RW disk is even inserted in the drive bay?
My Computer System is a Hewlett Packard 600-1100 Desktop with OS: Windows 10 Pro (64-bit).
In File Explorer, under "This PC" my Optical Drive shows itself as BD-ROM Drive (D:)
In "BD-ROM Drive (D:) Properties" the five Menus read as follows:
General: Type: CD Drive
Hardware: NAME hp BVDDVDRW CA21N, TYPE DVD/CD-ROM, DEVICE PROPERTIES Device status: This device is working properly.
Sharing: D:\ Shared, Network Path: \\NAME-HP600\USER name, Advanced Sharing: Password Protection is OFF
Customize: Optimize this folder for: Music
Recording: Disc burning: BD-ROM Drive (D:), Select a hard disk with enough free space... HP (C:)
I have already followed Microsoft Windows instructions below on "How to Fix DVD Drive Not Detected or Working In Windows 10"
1) Uninstalled & Reinstalled BDDVDRW CA12N a few times using Device Manager (Admin)
2) Uninstalled the IDE ATA/ATAPI from Controllers using Device Manager (Admin)
3) Used REGEDIT (Admin) to go to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE ＞ SYSTEM ＞ CurrentControlSet ＞ Control > Class ＞ 4D36E965-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318
and deleted LowerFilters and UpperFilters.
4) 👉 Solution (01:06): Fix CD/DVD Drive Not Showing by PowerShell
- Right-click on the Start menu and select “Windows PowerShell (admin).”
- Copy & paste the following commands and hit the enter key:
reg.exe add "HKLM\System\CurrentControlSet\Services\atapi\Controller0" /f /v EnumDevice1 /t REG_DWORD /d 0x00000001
- Reboot your computer.
5) 👉 Solution (01:41): Uninstall the IDE ATA/ATAPI controllers
- Press Windows Key + X to open Power User Menu.
- Select Device Manager, go to View and choose Show hidden devices
- Locate IDE ATA /ATAPI DRIVER, right-click to choose Uninstall from the menu.
- Reboot your computer.
6) 👉 Solution (02:14): Create new registry keys
- Press Windows Key + R to run command. Enter regedit and press enter
- Navigate to the following path: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\atapi
- Right-click on atapi and select New and Key
- Enter Controller0 and press Enter. Right-click and select New, then DWORD(32-bit) Value.
- Type EnumDevice1 and press Enter.
- Update the value to "1" in Value Data box and click OK.
- Close Registry Editor. Reboot Your Computer. Done!

2 years late but you ALWAYS ALWAYS save a copy of reg before you edit anything’
If u mess something up you can then load the saved reg file’
Think of it as a Time Machine you save before you do anything so if something goes wrong you can go back and try again’
Well I did this and now my computer won't restart. It keeps saying it's diagnosing and error so that's just great!
Then your computer has some other issues, these two reg is tied up to the ROM drives only. And rule number 1, *ALWAYS take a backup* of your registry before doing anything on it. *ALWAYS* !

i went to Device Manager then to ATAPI Controllers
and i deleted the below channels and restarted pc and all worked fine

i've heard this sooo many times like comments below i had no upper or lower filter...but when i right click and use the find option one popped up so i deleted it and it crashed my computer... i managed to get a system restore to get it to come back up but still no recognition to my cd/dvd ?

I tried to use the dvd rom in public library, which has a center hole button to stabilize the disc, it works.

My window has been lost after this process
There was no filter files in the registry and my dvdrw drive will read install disks for the video card and motherboard, just not GTA 5. There's no scratch's warping or anything that could cause the DVDRW not to read the disks.
