    My aunt was within 72 hrs of death by cancer back in 2005. I visited her in the Nat King Cole room, at UCLA, and later that night one of their scientists/doctors came in with what he thought might be a last chance advanced treatment that had never been given to anyone above the age of 60. He was emphatic with the family about this, even though it was unlikely to work etc...she's still alive today. That treatment has been multiplied many times over since then, saving many other lives. Her case was published in JAMA etc.. UCLA is an amazing medical school in my eyes...and not just the treatment options etc...but their attitude etc...my experience. 2c.

    It's not the school that makes the doctor, it's the integrity and knowledge of the individual doctor imo.

      You are right in that the individual brings to the game so much within themselves. But, the schools of medicine mentioned have some of the best teachers in the world, and access to research programs that don’t exist elsewhere. There is simply no substitute for this. And, they are self-perpetuating. Success breeds success. So, some of the best teachers continue to go to the best institutions, and the money flows in from highly successful former graduates, and those who have benefited from their innovative programs.

    Was treated for kidney cancer at Stanford. Didn’t meet any students, but did have some absolute top notch docs and the support staff was amazing. I did meet a Stanford Med student at an evaluation for a cochlear implant. I was asked if I would mind her doing the evaluation under the guidance of a licensed ENT and a licensed audiologist. I said fine. She was a little nervous about it, but she did a bang-up job, with the licensed folks adding little things here and there. She was quite at ease by the time the evaluation was completed.

    As RN with CCRN level, I worked with many doctors through almost 30 years both hospital (AICU and CCCU) and subacute rehab facilities of my career. Many doctors earned my respect for their high knowledgements as well as professionalism, some were arrogant and their knowledges in medicines made me feel suspicious about their academic achievements in school(s).

    Not entirely meaningless but quite close. The chief requirements are empathy, a good listener, ability to do a rigorous interview ('HOPC)', a sharp observer, ability to perform a focused clinical exam. In olden times, a vast knowledge of rarer conditions but with AI, advances in clinical testing, web searches not so necessary now - in any case, the patient has already checked out a diagnosis on the web. Having luminaries, Nobel people on the Faculty rather irrelevant the aspects I cite - the bang for the buck comes when you want to do research in a prestigious lab. Or serve as consultant for Big Pharma, Cabinet secretary, NIH, CDC, FDA...head honchos.
    Clinical medicine, the skills needed are skills a farmer, a carpenter, a sommelier, a chef, a teacher...needs. Your clinical acumen is not enhanced because there are luminaries at your School or your professor has written the textbook.

      I think AIIMS, Delhi should be at least among the top 70 best medical schools, if not the top 50 in the world. Yes, it's always hard to go to top institutions in India because of the huge number of applicants due mainly to the large population of India. So, the best IITs (Bombay, Delhi, Kanpur, Madras etc), the best IIMs (Ahmedabad, Bangalore, Calcutta etc), the best medical schools like AIIMS, Delhi, CMC, Vellore etc receive a large number of applicants, thus making the acceptance rate less than 1%. On the other hand, top global schools like Harvard, Stanford, Oxford, MIT etc do get a large number of applicants. However, the applicants are usually students who think they can get into the best schools in the world, not like in India, where top schools attract more than a hundred thousand applications, and there are thousands of applicants who really don't think they can get into the best schools but apply it anyway because the application fee is relatively cheaper compared to top global schools

    Sin duda estas escuelas de medicina se miden por lo que cobran y no realmente por la calidad de su formacion academica, Soy medico egresado de la UNAM con postgrado en Neurocienciasy y vivo en la frontera con California, en tres decadas de de tratar pacientes de los EUA, que vienen sufriendo el mercantilismo gringo, con exceso de estudios de laboratorio y gabinete , las pifias diagnosticas. y peor aun las polifarmacias aplicadas sin resultados satisfactorios.En suma una medicina decadente.

      El comun denominador de todas estas escuelas de medicina es que cobran una millonada para formar doctores y que en todas se habla ingles excepto la universidad china que parece de relleno. No hacen mención de universidades en Japón, Francia o Alemania donde existen universidades que forman medicos de clase mundial PERO que no hablan inglés. Mercantilismo puro y duro del anglosajón.

      A school which has always occupied the No. 1/top position in almost all the rankings published by any magazines can't be overrated. QS ranking places Harvard at No. 1, Times Higher Education ranking places at No. 1, Usnews & World Report rankings, both domestic (USA) and global places Harvard at No. 1, ARWU ranking places Harvard at No. 1. Beside all the above well-respected rankings, there are other rankings which place Harvard at the very top. So, much as I like Stanford and accept the fact that it's as good as Harvard in almost every field, Harvard isn't overrated and it's always placed at the top in any rankings made by magazines or sites etc

    • @ramdingaliana9711
      @ramdingaliana9711 2 месяца назад

      Yes, Stanford admits fewer students than Harvard does, so, the acceptance rate might be lower in Stanford than Harvard in medicine, though I'm not sure about that. However, Harvard is the undisputed No. 1 medical school in the world, that's a fact
