Beautiful revolver! The best looking gun S&W ever made. This is the only revolver with checkering on the top strap. It and the high polish finish make it a premium revolver over the more standard satin blue finished, and no checkered top strap, Model 28 .357 magnum.

That is an excellent example! You mentioned the hammer & trigger had patina. Actually that discoloration is "case hardening" a process that strengthens the metal.

Gorgeous friggin gun man. Unbelievable and I'm thrilled more than you could know that you kept the magnas on it!! Looks perfect just like it is, no hideous oversized rubber grips on it! No stupid target grips either. Nicely done!

That’s a great revolver. She’d go perfect in my collection. I’d take a model 27/28 3.5” - 4.0” over anything made today. Those barrels look really short on the N frame and I love it. 😎

Watching this again. That is such a kick ass gun. I love it. Another guy on here has a blued premodel 27 snub and it is equally gorgeous. You have a very nice gun and I'm glad you didn't pass on it. The pinned barrel is the one right in front of and above the cylinder. I think one by the sight may allow to change out the sight on the front. The ejector rod shroud seems to have pins as well on different models too, not sure what they are for exactly.

I have one just like yours, but with Hogue rubber grips. I carry it almost every day. I love the looks, feel and moderate recoil of it. It is more accurate than I can shoot.

This model looks %10000 better than the 3 inch L frame version. They should reissue it but as a roundbutt so that the owner can select whatever type of grips they want

Awesome revolver! I don't know how many you have, but thank goodness you didn't pass on that one. I have a blue 27-2 5" barrel. There's a lot of Smith guys that would love to have that one, including me. Love those diamond grips. Hope you got the original box with it too.

Just wanted to let you know in case you weren't aware. You said the first gun to ever shoot a 357 Magnum cartridge was the Mod. 27-2. This is not correct. The registered Magnum was the original 357 whereas the -2 was a few versions later. First it was the Reg Magnum, then came the Non-Reg Magnum, then in 1950 it became the premodel 27, then in 1957 it became the Mod 27 no dash, then at some point the -1 came out and then your's, the -2. Same type of gun, but the -2 wasn't the first. I don't believe the gun was still called the Model 27 Registered magnum, it MAY have been, but I think it was just called the Mod. 27 357 Magnum. When you say registered Magnum, it means the gun was from like 1930-1940 roughly. During the War, production stopped and after the War were the Non-registered until 1950 when some options were taken away. I believe the all came with the ramp sight like your's from that point on. Most of the Reg Mags are easily spotted by the type of front sight which was not a ramp usually, but it was an option. The main sight used was the Baughman Quick Draw sight in the front. By the time the -2 came out, I know there weren't any 5 screw guns, but MAYBE there were 4 screw versions, but I don't think even that, I think they were all 3 screw guns by that point like your's is. Very beautiful gun, just wanted to fill you in so you knew. The Standard Catalog of Smith & Wesson is a great resource for all Smith & Wesson guns, if you can get past the like 10 spelling errors, Grammer errors and lack of punctuation on every page. I swear not one person did a proof read on that thing before hitting print. Every page has some kind of error and for a book that costs 40+ bucks, I don't want my book to have countless errors. In fact, so far I haven't found one page that didn't have an error of some kind, usually more than one. Enjoy that gun and don't ever sell it.

Good info. This guy has an amazing piece for not really knowing much about S&W’s. I have a 4” 28-2 made in 1973 that I loooove. A 3.5” nickel plated model 27-2 is a “grail gun” for many. I enjoy all your S&W videos. You have great taste in Smiths.

I bought a pre 27 5 screw factory renickel in a 3 and a half inch, paid 1,025 for it. Just a little more than a wannabe classic series with a whole lot more history behind it. They will never make them like that again thats for sure beautiful piece you have sir!

That’s not patina on the trigger and hammer. They’re case hardened steel and that’s it’s natural look. That’s how it looked when it was new.
