Hello sir, I am do WPQT for fillet weld 2F position. My question is what is the qualified range for Outside Diameter? Because its only mention the qualified for dihedral angles.
Hi pro!!! Let I explain our situation: Our company need qualification a WPS by FCAW pipe + Plate (not require CVN test). We contact with third party, and they give to us the advise that, IF we want to weld multi Pass or Single Pass, we need perform testing on both specimens (single + multi). If we perform only Single (or Multi), we production on single (or Multi) only. But, when I checked table 4.5 AWS D1.1 Ver. 2015, multi / single pass is not essential variable required re-qualification. It means, if we qualification with single pass --> also qualified for multi pass and vice versa? Pls advise me I understand correct or not? In other hand, if I not correct, our third party is correct or not. Pls help me in this matter. Because, it can help us save a lots money.
Hello Sirs, I am making a WPS in accordance with AWS D1.1 2020 Structural Welding Code and I have a problems when specifying the MAXIMUM PREHEATING TEMPERATURE as well as the maximum interpass temperature. According to AWS, the maximum preheating and interpass temperature shall be shown on WPS but there is no instructions to help me pick up maximum preheating temperature in AWS D1.1 CODE. Could you please tell me how to specify the maximum preheating temperature or which materials that i can refer to find out the instructions. Thank you so much in advance
welcome : Depending on thickness of the WPS Metals. example:if the metal is 1 1/2" thickness pre-heat required to be 50% F not 32% lost of differences between metals. over 1 1/2" 150% big difference. low hydrogen 3/4" 1 1/2". climate matters also. voltage, amps and wire feed, ect
welcome: finish up on interpass temperature preheat interpass prevent cracking base metal shall be preheated temperature not less then minimum value listed on the WPS limitation table 4.5 qualified WPS essential table 3.6 prequalified WPS essen6tial
Hi Garry Pace! I am studying WPS, and have a bit experience on qualification WPS. How could I specific welding parameters (Volts / Amps, ...) into Draft WPS? Does have any material to reference? And after Qualification WPS, how could I reflect above parameters to draft WPS to be offical WPS? are there any related between them? Pls help me!!!
If you are doing a draft WPS you use your past experience for the Draft WPS or you use the voltage and amperage recommendations from the filler material manufacturers. When you perform your draft WPS you record that information on the PQR or the Procedure Qualification Record. Then you write the WPS that is to be used in production referencing the PQR. Email me if you have further questions.
@@gpacex Thank Garry Pace! I assume that, the amps of Draff WPS with range is 180 - 220A (FCAW). But valve of PQR is 180-190A. Do I need change write WPS with range +/- 10% valve of PQR such as table 4.5 or I still can keep range 180-220A as draff WPS for succession WPS? (same with other electric parameters). I am confusing this matter. Pls help me clear up my concern with many thanks. Cheers, --- Nguyen Van Duong Learner from Viet Nam

Hello Sir
Any requirement for personnel who written & approved WPS according AWS D1.1 code?
You don't need to have any certifications or other requirements. Just need to know what you are doing, the code is very loose with this requirement.
Hello sir ...how to get the welding process if not given while doing WPS
Both AWS and ASME welder qualifications & WPS PQR are same or different?
Different. AWS requires a volumetric examination to qualify the WPS/PQR. ASME is focused on piping and AWS structural steel.

preheat interpass prevent cracking base metal shall be preheated

Also climate is a must know. example midwest late fall even 50% will be alittle challenging
