Taking my Part B this Saturday. I've been studying this Atlas course w/ the replicas since July. Thanks for the helpful video. I was wondering how relevant all of this material was. I 'm in the "week of" jitters stage and this put me at ease. lol.
@@fredmhs2005 I'm taking the course now. Did you buy the WIT book? Also the course covers D1.1 2015 but I bought the 2020 edition would that be a problem?
@@TheTurkeyeater no I didn’t get the WIT book. I felt like it wasn’t extremely necessary honestly. As for the code, I took the 1169, not D1.1 so I can’t really answer that one for ya bud. Give Hannon (Atlas owner) a shout and ask him. He’ll point you in the right direction.
@@fredmhs2005 Thanks man I just finished with part A of the course. Not having the book worried me a bit but I'm keeping notes instead. I'll give Han a call tomorrow.
Feel pride in that you passed it in one try. Anybody that took the test after 2016 took a much harder test. I took it in 2003 studied a friends 10 modules studied for a week or so passed with a 86. I let that lapse took it again Dec 2022 took the seminar and averaged a 79. They made the practical much tougher and the code portion. A lot more questions and a shorter time.
@@weesebowski8651 I think the people that took the Atlas course first have an advantage. You have time to see what’s coming. If you take the AWS seminar which I have to say wasn’t as good as I thought it would be you are under the gun to learn everything you need 3 days or so for part B. Take 1104 for part C. I would say that’s the easiest. It’s only showing you can find the answers in a code book. Prepare as much as you can before you test. Don’t rely on having a so called good instructor to get you to pass. Relax and let it rip. Best of luck to you when you do take it.
The reason why AWS made the test harder is just money plain and simple. AWS doesn’t care if you fail because they get more money for the coffers when you have to retest.
Atlas is a good company. I ordered a full kit from them. Was like.... 1,440 something.... but that was also tools and plastics. I'm on part a chapter 10 now. I'd recommend it. It's expensive. But younget what you put in, fellas. Pay to play
Hey man I have a question for you. I am studying atlas training now. I take part b in about a month. How well would you say you were prepared for part b by using Atlas?
@@tunesmithus B is hard because of the plastic replicas, I did worst on the questions referring to them. If you can, get the Atlas replicas so you can take the practice questions using them. For me the practice exams from Atlas were key.
@@tunesmithus The CWI exam part B had a few questions on non destructive testing that used pictures and the question asked what was being shown in the picture. Those were unexpected to me. I remember wishing I had payed more attention. It was only like 3-4 questions, but with part B that could matter a lot.
How long do you have to be a CWI before you can take your CWS test im having to quit welding due to asthma but my boss is putting me in CWI school after that im planning to go farther up hes a very stand up boss for not giving me the boot glad to been with him 20 years

I'm a welder but I never had any schooling for it, in fact i went to college for business management and just became a welder by pure coincidence...My job trained me to read prints and to mig and tig weld to specifications I've been welding for the past 10 years...now I want to get my certifications. I don't know where to start. Should I get a welding diploma 1st? What books should I get, what would be the easiest route to becoming a CWI and CWE?

@@viking8781 It’s good it’s got a huge question bank, and they let you have access until your ready, but, just like this post says, some of the answers are just flat out wrong but it’s just a few, you can contact the instructor with questions also.
I studied with SI certs and I did not pass my first try. Going to take the exam again in two months. I suggest getting the “Welding Inspection Technology” book. Everything in SI certs is in that book, if not more. I haven’t studied with Atlas so I can’t compare them. I will say this, SI certs helped me a lot but it’s not your all in one course you need to pass. Do your research and look for multiple study groups/courses
@@anthonyp7680 my question if a person worked in design and drafting . If he does AWS D1.1 is enough to get into quality domain ? Or along with that many say ASNT level 3 and UT certification. It will help in getting a job in quality.
I bought the full course and have completed the fundamentals section already. How long did you study the whole course and did you still take the seminar? People are acting like I still have to take the seminar right before the test.
Great informative video, especially part B. I've been CWI for 12 years and took AWS D1.1 part C also. I went to the AWS sponsored two day course just prior to taking test and passed. Liked your comment of the course having minutia. CWI credential has been valuable to my career working in production and quality management in structural steel shops. The price of the 3 year renewals keeps going up as with everything.
Unless your work is paying, do not bother with the live seminar. At least the one I was in and a couple other guys I talked to from other ones. Had a really cool teacher but the seminar did absolutely nothing to prep for the exams. AWS practice questions are nothing like what is on the exams at all. It's pretty weird. Like you said, it is almost like they want you to fail so that they can make more money.
I went with SiCerts but i'm gonna get theses replicas, there closer to the real ones as I just took part B Sept 28th 2021, part A and C here soon. Both are good site to study with, wont condone either,I believe its personal preference. Nice vid though.
@slime4ktjay870 I'm still trying to get it but starting is around 25 to 40 hr, I know some that are starting there third level and are in the 6 fig. I am still welding and relocating to Indiana.
@ag2847 not yet as I have moved and other stuff has been going into my studying, but I'm doing D 1.1 and D 1.5. Been tough to study as well. Work, family but slowly getting it all done.
I just passed mine first go as well. I did opt in for the week long pre test seminar, and that helped immensely!!! But I was in that seminar with 10 other people who had never stricken an arc before, and it is do-able, but you definitely need to have a thorough understanding of Non destructive methods, somewhat of a knowledge on how electricity works, and welding in general!
