Brother Im going to school highlighting the book trying too take it all in. Everything your teaching is helping so much and I find that my school does not provide this same info . very informative and extremely helpful. Thank you.
Note that the Part B of the exam changed in January 2017 they added Piping and Pressure Piping questions ; I've done a few videos that might help ruclips.net/video/Dm9GPLZ2fvc/видео.html
The only other thing that I forgot to put on there is weld access holes. I bet there was 5 questions on weld access holes on this test. Many on thickness requirements. Make sure you know where to find weld access holes in the code section. I think they are on page 200.
Hey Brent, I recently read that the members of AWS seemed think that the 2010 Part B didn't have anything on pipe inspection and deemed it unfair to the pipe welders. Well I took the exams today and just to say I hope they don't start feeling sorry for people jumping off of cliffs. If so we will not have an AWS board period, 95% of the Part B inspection test refers to or is inspection of pipe welds.....
I took the exam back in February. 72% on part b, 75 on fundamentals, and 66 on code. I studied fundamentals for almost a year and still scored low. Needless to say that I didn't have a 72 overall and am taking it again in Ohio at the Hobart Welding Institute. My biggest problem was time management and navigating the books. I wasn't knowledgeable about the code part because I didn't know the exams so extensive. Man it took me a month before I was mentally ready to pick up my books again
Brent - On Part A was most of the questions from the WIT book. Part B was it the sample blocks that need to be measured. Part C was all questions from D1.1 code book. In the D1.1 code book you said in one of your videos that half the book won't be on the test. Can you tell what half would not be on D1.1? 1 more month getting nervous. Great Videos... Thanks, Rich
+Domes Domes: Part A doesn't have a book. It's 150 questions on general welding and inspection knowledge. Part B is when you get sample welds made out of plastic, and they'll give you a document called Part B Examination Book of Specifications to look up your measurements in. Always check your answers in that document. Part C is all on the code book. Half of the D1.1 is Annex's and they are not used in the test.
a resistance to applied forces so if the Z is small, the resistances will be less?? Apply energy , force to a system of two in this case, to cause a fracture cannot happen if the Z spacing is within a spec??
I had a guy tell me he just passed it the other day on a different video. I asked him what he thought as he did take it with the 2015 book. This is what he said. Thanks bud. I took it under 2015 D1.1 which is so full of errata, that they've already done a 2nd printing. Additionally, the new Part B was pretty time-consuming due to the new pipe sample and stuff. Lots of stuff on shelf bars, just like you said, on part C. Part A was by far the hardest part, and I have a degree in code welding. They sure do want that retest fee it seems, hehe. Lucky for me, I passed the first go 'round.
PLEASE I NEED THE AWS BOOK YOU USED IN CWI Exam II video ... Hey Brent, My name is Elijah. I have serious interest in CWI and I want to pass the exam at once. I just listen to your CWI Exam II. I really like the whole thing especially the end part of it. (It break down how the Question Relate to the Study) Please how can I get the book you used in the video (CWI Exam II) ? Thanks and God bless you .. - Please my number is 8329100937. Please I'll like it if I can get your email or phone number. Again, thanks for your help Regards, Elijah Ige - (8329100937)
Ok so being 2018... which book should i get to study for the test? I have almost 15 years welding experience but my knowledge overal was pretty specific to the jobs ive had. Predominantly pipe, 100% xray high pressure vessels. So i definitely need some education!!! I am not able to travel for the week of seminars. So i will have to do it from home. And then take the tests. Although they do provide online classes for $2000 buck now....
Taking d.1.1 test here in nov. I also am taking the week long pre course seminar and had the online seminar for 2 months now. My question is should I wait till my classes to highlight and tab out my d.1.1 book? Or ok to start now? Just did not want to mark it all up with useless info that I wont need
Anything you can do to become more familiar with the code book is good. I don't think you can start too early. Remember they let you write on the inside of the cover too so you could use that to write down stuff your sure will be on the test with the page numbers so you can find it quick.
+Jon Houck Z loss is when you have a skewed T-Joint and the angle of the fillet weld doesn't allow for full penetration in the joint. The amount of lack penetration is the Z loss.
hi Brent, I took my CWI test in sept of 2016, part a got an 87% part b 50% and d 1.1 I got a 88% well since my overall % was lower than 72% I have to re do all the test, that part b killed me bad, I took a course at a private inspection school and I guess I didn't get part b down, is there anything out there to help me out to explain the part b better? I'll be taking it in may again, you did a great job on the 2 videos you should do one on part b as well
It seams most people are failing on part b. I don't know of anything that is out there to train you on just part b. I wish I could help you out, but I can't think of anything.
The code book is what got me but I hadn't read the code book before the week long seminar and it just wasn't long enough for me to get fast at using it
E Gregory so there is some understanding to navigate thru that dam book then, I just gave up, I can't study and work right now, were gonna be starting the rams stadium and I was hoping to have passed the test before starting it, maybe next year, good luck though
Jaime Martinez I've been studying the fundamentals and the hands on portion items since early October. However the code Part destroyed me since I had never even seen the book before let alone use it

That's hilarious. So you're saying that there was a huge amount of pipe inspection in Part B?
That's basically the inspection part of the exam, out of 46 questions at least 34 are pipe and pressure piping related.

Johnny orso jr. Did u have any welding background before u took the test?
Did everything work out good for u passing

Brend, Might explain how to use procedures prequalified as fit up
am also doing welding and fabrication but I don't have a book of welding now how can I get it Sir
We use Welding Principles & Applications by Larry Jeffus.

Brent does the online cwi pre coarse help for the final test?
Brent, have you talked to anyone that has taken the newly revised CWI exam with the 2015 D1.1 code?
I had a guy tell me he just passed it the other day on a different video. I asked him what he thought as he did take it with the 2015 book. This is what he said.

You should definitely get the code book that you plan on taking the test with and become as familiar as you can with it.
How did u do on your test @bld93561
Sir, I’m looking for study material for specifications, and drawings ( part b) possibly heat treat charts
You have to find someone that just got done taking the one week seminar for the CWI exam. They will have the latest study materials.
Taking d.1.1 test here in nov. I also am taking the week long pre course seminar and had the online seminar for 2 months now. fellow cwi hopeful here, nov10-16 is me test date, sacramento. same for you?
do all the closed book questions come out off the d1.1?
what is a Z loss, is this in any way related to Impedance used in energy studies??
+Jon Houck Z loss is when you have a skewed T-Joint and the angle of the fillet weld doesn't allow for full penetration in the joint. The amount of lack penetration is the Z loss.
Dear sir,
Have a good day. How to get these books? Please give me this information.
You can buy them from the American Welding Society (AWS).
How do you get the ASW D1.1 book?
You can get it from the American Welding Society. I'd try to find one used first. It's expensive new.
alright thanks

Could u tell that book name whome u used in leacture please
