You have to love a company that would make this effort to help its customers repair their gear investment. It shows a lot of respect for their customers! Thank you and well done, Exped!
Thanks! Could you explain the purpose of the Seam Grip + WP? It sounds like with the UV glue you already fixed the leak so not sure what the purpose of the second product is? I have a Megamat which I've done 6 layers of the field repair glue on, covering plenty of surrounding area of the leak and it still is leaking (water test shows bubbles coming up on all sides of my glued repair). What's my next step? Apply Seam Grip + WP? Dremel off the glue and start over?
UV glue is great for an in-the-middle-of-the-night emergency repair, but due to it's very quick cure time, the UV glue tends to be more "brittle" (inflexible) when cured and it doesn't typically have time to soak into the fabric as well. The reason we like the Seam Grip stuff is that it's still very strong and flexible when cured, so the repair is much more "solid" over time. The fabric of the MegaMats (especially the top fabric) is pretty porous, so it will take a little extra glue on those mats in order to fully soak in (which is key). The airtight coating in our mats is on the inside surface of that outer fabric, so letting the glue soak in around the puncture down to that airproof layer is important to sealing off the leak so air can’t go around the glue laterally through the fibers (which sounds like what you're experiencing here). To fix the leaking area on your mat, we'd advise coating the repaired area in a smooth layer of Seam Grip and ensuring that the repair glue extends beyond the edge of the previous repairs underneath. Be sure to also have the valves open during repair so there’s no air forcing itself through the leak while the glue dries. Feel free to email us at Questions@expedusa.com if you have any further repair questions. If you're in the US, we can also send you some extra tubes of repair glue or offer our repair services (if you're outside of the US, we can connect you with your region's Exped distributor for further assistance)
I was wondering if you have any advice - I car camp with the Exped MegaMat with my cat. My cat has sharp nails and I want to prevent any scratches / punctures on the mat. Is there any durable covers to wrap the mat around/ into? Lastly, when I received my Exped MegaMat from REI, it did not come with any patch repair kit. Not sure if it was supposed to. Could I order a repair kit or have one sent to me? Many thanks and I love the mattress! Brian
Hello. We do not recommend having pets on mats due to the risk of punctures that claws present. EXPED does not make a wrap for the mat that would prevent punctures, but you could use a closed-cell foam mat like our MultiMat or FlexMat to cover the top of the mat. Regarding the patch kit, the MegaMat does come with a patch kit that is typically in the internal side pocket of the Sidewinder stuff sack. If you do not have one in the side pocket, please reach out to the EXPED distributor in your area for assistance. You can do so through the contact page on our website: www.exped.com/en/contact
@@ExpedLLC omg im so glad i read this comment cuz i too thought my rei purchased mat didnt come with a repair kit, but it was there in the sidepocket! its just smaller than i expected so i never even noticed it. thank you exped!
Hi there. Thank you for the question. You can use the included repair glue to repair a puncture on your mat. A seam sealant will work as well. Just be sure it's intended for non-siliconized polyester and nylon surfaces. Seam sealer intended for siliconized surfaces will not work on your MegaMat. Please let us know if you have any additional questions.
“here you can see the included field repair kit included with your pad, now we are gonna ignore that and use a totally different repair process” nice…..

I have a small puncture on the bottom of my Megamat. Do I need to use the seam sealant to work on this, or just repair glue?

Where can I find that applicator?
The one shown in this video is the "Rockler Silicone Mini Glue Brush" (available in multiple places online). A 2-pack is about $10 usd.

Fix looks a tad unsightly
And it looks horrible after the repair :)
