I was born in Akron, but I live in the Los Angeles area now. We have "Grocery Outlet-Bargain Markets" here, I guess they are expanding to the Midwest. I like their catchy TV commercial jingle. Glad to see they are re-purposing it, instead of tearing it down. We also have "Wetzel's Pretzels" out her that have great pizza bites. (which I am now craving. ;-)
Yeah we have a Wetzel's pretzels too in our local mall. Love them. BTW, what is Grocery Outlet-Bargain Markets?? Like is it just a discount grocery store? What makes it special?
Happy new year, Lyd! This is what I like to see happen to abandoned department stores. Too many of them fall victim to urban decay because they don't get repurposed!
That's cool that the building is being repurposed. There is so much empty retail space near me that just sits, has sat, and will probably continue to sit and crumble away.
That was a huge JCPenneys for that building to be so large. It's so wierd to hear someone call it "Penneys" because when i was growing up, everyone said it that way. I grew up in the 1980's and 1990's and JcPenneys were everywhere. It's amazing that we still have one at our local mall here which i have no idea how it stays open to be honest. The history of this store is pretty amazing and i hate to see it deteriorate further. Glad to hear that atleast something is planned to go in there soon.
I miss Kmart as a child in the 80s and 90s....Sorry for getting political, but Im 44 and old enough to remember places like Hills, and even Montgomery ward... We Lose yet again more classy upscale stores, Sears JC Pennys and even Kmart, that once represented a flourishing thriving Middle class economy.... making way to Gloomy poor quality Low end stores like 5 below and Dollar General, "Chinese made throw away" but so many seem not notice the direction the USA is heading.... Bill Clinton's NAFTA killed Many of these stores as well as it still continues to erase middle class.
It shocks me that you haven't heard of grocery outlet! 😆 That was my mom's go-to grocery store when I was a kid growing up in California in the late 90s/early 2000s. Such a great store. Glad Ohio is getting some 😝
That JCP was supposed to close in early September, but stayed open into November. I used to go there when I was a kid in the 70s (that exact one). You have to be related to Paul! You resemble him so much!
I'm not a huge fan so far of Five Below. They opened one near me in Plainview LI, I did buy some cool tshirts, a Pink Floyd one, etc., and a stupid Mandalorian collectors enamel pin, they had tons for $4! But otherwise I don't need boxes of candy and kids stuff. It's lit so bright it's like an operating theater inside. LOL At least the tshirts there were cheap, unlike those pirates at goddamned Newbury Comics who want $27 for one stupid Ramones shirt.
Cool place just right down the road from where I live. I have some pictures and maybe some video of the last few days of that Jc Penny. Been into the 5 below since it opened not long ago. Everyone is waiting for the discount grocery store opening there soon then a new mejers up the road is opening soon to
Awesomeness in just 10 minutes! Thank you filming this
I’m on the scene!
I miss JC Penny's 😢. Thanks for posting catch you on the next adventure!
Cool video as always Lydia 🥰❤️
Checking out the five below while it's 5° below.
Yes!
The penny's entrance looks like an old O'Neils store. Nice video
Thanks!
Thank you again Super Buick !

Right!

Right!
Online shopping and bad management play a huge part in the closing of these stores
Love the arches @ the entrances. Thanks for sharing
Lyd Wetzel on the scene👍
I know that was kewl. Kinda playing the Journalist mantra there!
thank you lyd.......always in tacoma washington....
Happy New Year Lynn. Hope you had a good new Year's Eve. Hope 2025 is good to you.

No different than how Montgomery Ward rebranded as "Wards" near the end of its life.
I think it may be a Midwest thing? I’m glad there are still some left
That is a trend taking a large chain store and putting in smaller businesses. Macy’s in malls also same thing, they take up a large “footprint”😗
Internet shopping, Amazon, Walmart. shoplifters and lazy people are killing brick and mortar stores.
I won’t go in Five Below…it’s too cold in there 😂😂😂
Yea!
FIRST 🆒 Video Lydia !!!
Heck yeah!
@Lydwetzel 👍
I recognize the signs, I worked for the company that advertised them going out of business.
Hey Lyd. If you still want to shop at Penny's the Eastwood Mall in Niles still has one as I remember at the moment.
I love your Sears lanyard, I may check on eBay for one for myself!

No clue who Paul is!
@@Lydwetzel Wow, I could have sworn you were related to Paul Wetzel, Youngstown's WKBN tv meteorologist! You could be brother and sister!
@CJsComicsandGames no i don’t look like him!
Hi lyd how are you happy Sunday night and happy new year to you and I hope that 2025 brings you a love and happiness
From Strauss, to Kaufman’s to JCPenney. Interesting how this store never became a Macys. I was lucky to catch the closing sale just 11 days left.
Didn’t know it was other store before Penneys!
Yes its cool ❤
"Amalgamation" You're really making us think. 😅
