Sorry to say but PM Modi is ignorant. Kharge could not crush him with facts.
KHARGE is too old. Congress had won the 1946 Elections for the Central Assembly (later Parliament) in British India, held under GOI Act 1935, and Nehru was chosen to lead the Govt. as Vice President 1946 - 51 ( Viceroy was President). That continum Vice President eventually became PM of free India in 1947, with 4 years un-utilised tenure. The Elected Govt (mandated by 1946 Elections), continued.. and used the interim period to draft a Constitution, and hold Free India's first Election in 1952 upon completion of its 5 year tenure.
There was no compulsion on Pt. Nehru to conduct Elections. He could have turned India into a 1-Party State, and ruled... but then Nehru was a Democrat...
