Its funny because mechanical keyboards are the rage right now and really that's how old keyboards used to be. So we created this technology to make keyboards better and then went backwards to the original way of making them and just tightened up the design.
I wonder if it's just the retro factor that people enjoy or if there is another reason folk are swaying towards these. I love the sounds of them but I become a terrible typist on them, I'm quite lazy so the flatter the keys are, the better.
Well for gaming there are definite reasons for going mechanical. It has to do with the way the keys are registered on typical modern style keyboards. These ones are more precise.
JustAWhisperingGuy I actually don't think the newer membrane keyboards are 'better', they're just cheaper. They're actually worse because they're less durable and harder to clean.
Mechanical keyboards are preferred by gamers and typers simply because of how they feel. Nowadays, you get membrane keyboards which are terrible if you type or game a lot on them. A popular mechanical key switch brand is called Cherry. They have three popular 'switches': Blues - These are preferred by typers. They are an almost complete replica of the 'old keyboard' you're referring about. Reds - The quiet version of mechanical, preferred by gamers because of the lack of pressure you need for the keys to register. Browns - Preferred by both. The perfect mix. If you want more typing videos, you should really check out "ibm model m typing" or "blue mechanical keyboard typing". A popular blue mechanical key switch keyboard brand is Das Keyboards.
Someone with too much time will probably watch this someday and tell you what you were typing letter by letter. It's the kind of thing that happens on the internet.
I just got this keyboard yesterday, and I love it so much, its really unique in my opinion, I usually like to type long sentences because I like how it sounds and the texture of the keys in my opinion feel very nice. Take this comment for example, I writing a very long one than usual because I like typing on this keyboard.
Ahhhhhhh this reminds me of my college days resting on an old couch in the chapel (where the music department was housed) and listening to someone respond to emails on an old Apple computer. Even frantic typing was soothing to me and still is to this day. And here I thought I was weird back in the late 90s for craving that sound.
I don't know about relaxing but it definitely makes me want to be more productive, it's like hearing productivity makes me more motivated? That seems like an interesting tactic for more people to try out more. Even hearing this video while typing this is making me want to type more and faster! Haha.
Fascinating typing style you've got going there. I think I would trip over my thumbs if I tried to space with a pointer. LOL This video just made me realize something I hadn't known before.....the typing doesn't really give me tingles, but the mouse clicks do! Weird....maybe you wouldn't mind making a short devoted to more mouse clicking? :) Thanks for all you do for us, Robert!
Generally gaming keyboards have a harder "press" which is they take a bit more effort to actually hut the key and get the response, they also tend to have lighting in the keys themselves and a few extra keys that can be set up to do specific combinations of button presses such as shift & b in the one key, this is usually so that the owner can have extra easily accessible buttons for certain actions within a game.
my bf had to go to sleep so I decided to watch a typing video (becuz sometimes I like to fall asleep to him typing) and also because it is one of my triggers. thanks so much robert.
Typing is so my thing. Cool video as always, Rob. PS: your typing style mimics mine..... I've never used my thumb with the space bar.... always has been my pointer finger. I feel like my hand typing skills would be off if I tried to use my thumb. Hahaha
These Browns sound substantially better than the Reds I had on a K60 with O rings fitted. They were very cheap and tinkly sounding on the up stroke. Put me off mechanicals. These sound much deeper. I think I may have to go for this!
Duff The Psych ASMR Also, do you still have this keyboard? Could you vouch for the quality of it? I've read some reviews on Amazon of lights going out, keys snapping, etc within weeks/months of owning it. Wanted to ask another person before I bought it. Getting rid of my Blackwidow Ultimate.
JustAWhisperingGuy How quiet is this? Like "Logitech K800 quiet", or not so "I can type as much as I like in bed at night and not wake my wife or baby"? I'd love a mechanical keyboard and am a fairly light typer (in terms of finger control and actuation force), but I'm sick of membrane keyboards giving out on me, and non chiclet keys like the G110 being very mushy.
Reading the comments I had to watch my hands while typing something to see how different my typing is. I've always known it was weird that I never use my pinkies but I also found that I don't us my ring finger except on the left to use shift, tab, or caps. Someone commented that you use your right index finger for the space bar and I do too, lol.
Those sounds like browns, am I correct? I'm currently using a Filco with browns, I've had it for more than a year now and it's still one of my best purchases (besides my Leopold FC660C Topre keyboard).
I am so used to using membrane keyboard, that when I try and type on this keyboard, it is a heavy mess of me just POUNDING the keys. I am trying to train myself to type with less force. But you, my friend, have absolutely mastered typing on a mechanical keyboard.
Have you ever tried using a stiffer switch? Cherry MX Clears are similar to MX Browns (the switch in the G710+) but require a heavier press to actuate. Oh and the tactile bump is more substantial compared to the MX Browns.
BLX_Andy Yea, I use MX browns, but I am sure something like clears would feel more normal to me. The browns are just a bit to get used to though, but once I do get used to it, I know this keyboard will be heavenly. Just the sound is amazing.
Can I ask, is the tactile bump really noticeable? I know it's not as much as with Blues, but some people say that there is almost no tactile feedback at all, thanks.
Hi Maybe I'm a little bit late but... Is it worth buying this Keyboard? I'm currently looking for a mechanical Keyboard without these typical (LOUD) typing noises. I don't want my friends to hear every single click (especially when Teamspeaking) and I also don't want to get distracted by my own clicking sounds neither. Well... Rookz I've actually heard from a lot of gamer friends that they type the same way. I just learned on my own I guess. Has to do with the way that I angle my right hand.
I love the clickety clackety sounds of the old keyboards
Its funny because mechanical keyboards are the rage right now and really that's how old keyboards used to be. So we created this technology to make keyboards better and then went backwards to the original way of making them and just tightened up the design.

Ah, the tingles are strong in this video!
I love the typing sounds. :)
6 years ago and im still watching 😔 time flys by
That keyboard makes really nice sounds! I also like the occasional mouse clicks. Liked and added to my playlist :)
Awesome possum
Oh thank god, typing sounds that sound like someone actually typing, and not like someone randomly poking random keys very slowly...
Amoechick Yeah! I forget what I was typing. I think i might have just been chatting or something.
Someone with too much time will probably watch this someday and tell you what you were typing letter by letter. It's the kind of thing that happens on the internet.
27 minutes of watching a guy type, time to rethink my life.
James Fitzsimmons hahahaha
Hahaha
don't look just listen

+Andy ho Hahaha that's awesome.
This is so relaxing and I don't know why...
It's called asmr... Welcome to the community my friend relaxation and tingles for all..
Yeah just discovered it XD
+Daniel Currey whats asmr?
+Blue Rays ASMR: Gaming edition
The sound of the G710+ keys being pressed pleases me a lot
+187nellybelly nice :)
I'm just like you. I have these odd pauses when I have to think about what I'm typing lol.
Or waiting for another person in a conversation to reply
Yeah! xd
I don't know about relaxing but it definitely makes me want to be more productive, it's like hearing productivity makes me more motivated? That seems like an interesting tactic for more people to try out more. Even hearing this video while typing this is making me want to type more and faster! Haha.
I just need to damn well get started!
I tend to watch vlogs like on Gary Vaynerchuck's channel for that reason. The productivity inspires me to be productive too.
Oh dear mother of god the tingles
awesome!
Fascinating typing style you've got going there. I think I would trip over my thumbs if I tried to space with a pointer. interesting! I don't know if I'd do a whole video dedicated to mouse clicks, but they are part of pretty much any video I do involving the PC
Yeah...a whole vid would be a bit much, but a couple minute segment would be super. It kinda surprised me too. LOL!
At 00:43 I thought that the video paused
Same
FREEZE
he is subzero
I kept thinking it was pausing or freezing! But obviously you have to give your hands a break for a moment to think hehe.
Typing ASMR is great. Thank you!
You're very welcome
Generally gaming keyboards have a harder "press" which is they take a bit more effort to actually hut the key and get the response, they also tend to have lighting in the keys themselves and a few extra keys that can be set up to do specific combinations of button presses such as shift & b in the one key, this is usually so that the owner can have extra easily accessible buttons for certain actions within a game.
I haven't felt tingles in over two months and I watched this and it immediately brought them back! You are a saint! Great video! :D
Nice!
my bf had to go to sleep so I decided to watch a typing video (becuz sometimes I like to fall asleep to him typing) and also because it is one of my triggers. thanks so much robert.
Nice! My pleasure.
just took the o-rings off of the key caps on my keyboard today. same keyboard. pretty insane how different the sound is. i enjoyed this
+Joe Adams Mine are off now too :)
20 minutes of soothing keyboard typing??? This sounds like my type of video ^w^
+Minihorsegirl - Minecraft,Animal Jam, And More! :)
I came here to see how loud my new keyboard would be, stuck around for a daily dose of tingles. Two birds with one stone haha.
Also your finger setup weirds me out with your index on the space like that lol
NeoTenic haha yeah yeah yeah
Duff The Psych ASMR I type the exact same way man. Was kind of surprised to see I wasn't the only one.
Using this at work. Best sound ever. I even removed the rubber O-rings and it's plain awesome.
Thank you for uploading this!! It's soooo relaxing
My pleasure.
I use this to keep my parents thinking I'm worth a shit.
You deserve a billion more subscribers!!! I love your videos :D
Thanks so much!
All I can think of is "all work and no play makes Jack a dull boy". Haha! This is relaxing though, not Shining-creepy. Thanks very much!
hahaha nice
i always wonder what people type during these..
beggo 'POOP, DUBVY G B, CJ I, HI, JHNHYG, HYBYYVB GUY I. JGJHGYJCJIP HI HJYNFDSJJ HELLO, '
Typing is so my thing.
Cool video as always, Rob.
PS: your typing style mimics mine..... I've never used my thumb with the space bar.... always has been my pointer finger. I feel like my hand typing skills would be off if I tried to use my thumb. Hahaha
:-P Alfred Lanier don't change your hand typing skills! We know what happens when you had to do a four step approach in bowling! "Timmy!"
Damn, my grammar was horrible just then sorry about that. It's 1 AM and I'm working off a cold lol
Really? I'm not alone?? Awesome :)
These Browns sound substantially better than the Reds I had on a K60 with O rings fitted. They were very cheap and tinkly sounding on the up stroke. Put me off mechanicals. These sound much deeper. I think I may have to go for this!
I've got the same last Christmas! Love it so far
SLYGUY tis pretty awesome :)
I usually dont like the sound of mechanical keyboard but i love this ill be sleeping good tonight
Nice!
😳 so...mesmerizing....can't...stop...watching haha
Nice :)
Another index finger space bar typer. My man :)
***** hahaha yesssss
Duff The Psych ASMR Also, do you still have this keyboard? Could you vouch for the quality of it? I've read some reviews on Amazon of lights going out, keys snapping, etc within weeks/months of owning it. Wanted to ask another person before I bought it. Getting rid of my Blackwidow Ultimate.
***** It's my main keyboard. It's still working out well for me. No changes.
do you know i actually type wih one finger on a keyboard, and before any of you call me stupid i type just as fast as a normal typer.
No you don't. It's impossible unless you have some superhuman speed.
New to your channel, you are wonderful! Best male ASMRtist!
Thank you for the videos :)
jackassgd Thanks very much!
this is so addicting to hear and watch
awesome haha
Somehow sounds like a standard membrane keyboard.
Really? I don't think it does. The o-rings under the keys dampen the sound, so that's why its not quite as clicky
Oh. I see.
JustAWhisperingGuy How quiet is this? Like "Logitech K800 quiet", or not so "I can type as much as I like in bed at night and not wake my wife or baby"? I'd love a mechanical keyboard and am a fairly light typer (in terms of finger control and actuation force), but I'm sick of membrane keyboards giving out on me, and non chiclet keys like the G110 being very mushy.
nah not that quiet
You have the nicest hands. Another relaxing video. Old style keyboard eith the deep analog keys love it. What metal is ur wedding band
Its tungsten
I have two options, watch this video to hear the sounds or type on my own mechanical keyboard which I'm typing on now!
Whenever I watch these typing video's I wonder how I type....
Everyone has his own way of typing I guess haha
yeah, my way is a bit unconventional
This is so relaxing
+Lonneke Verharen Glad you think so. Thanks!
That is a nice keyboard!
Agreed!
That fast typing tho. Impressive.
My brother has this exact same keyboard. It's awesome!
relaxing don,t know why but sounds good calm
I think I found a new "go to" video! Thanks!
It makes me really want to get a mechanical keyboard too, haha.
Not going to lie... I don't know if I can go back now.
"Download this track for $1! gumroad.com/l/BfsFk"
HOLY FUCK I SURELY AM GOING TO DO THAT!!!!!!!!!11111111111
ZodiacEdition Hahaha nice

gonna fap to dis

Haha yeah- whatever works for you!
I have the regular G710 (Blue switches) and I prefer that although the the + is also very solid.
+Bradley Davis I'm a fan!
Does it come with other WASD buttons if you want them to match the rest of the keyboard?
Simon Elias I don't believe so.
Well, it's a gaming keyboard, so you should want them. But if you don't, then get a normal keyboard, maybe a Das keyboard.
+Adam Sweitzer your face made my day
I have the exact same keyboard :) Nice one mate!
Duff The Psych ASMR Yea me too :)
The most intense flamewar I've ever seen without a screen
+Mashing Wachine lol
nice sound... i love it
Plot twist: he's actually hacking into area 51 to find the most secret asmr techniques
I love these keyboards. I have one too. :)
Nice!
What kind of keys are those?
mx browns with rubber o-rings underneath
Ah! I'm getting O rings for my Cherry MX Black keyboard and Cherry MX Blue Keypad! Are O-rings effective for dimming the sounds?
Yeah they are for sure. They change the feel a bit, but it's more of a dull sound and not as clicky
Wow okay! Thank you so much for replying, I appreciate the info. I was wondering since they are like 10-15 dollars~
SunnySplosion Honestly, I like keys that click better than silent keys.
I have this keyboard. :)
this is one of the most DISGUSTINGLY beautiful videos ever.
btw what mouse do you use?
+Vapex Razer deathadder
Middle W /S ring A pointer D thumb space come on gamer alert XD
I can only imagine how the action on that feels...
My envy.
flashpro62 It's pretty nice!
Sick keyboard. If i was a computer gamer i would use it.
:)
You hit the space bar with your index finger! I thought I was the only one haha
De Boobie Nope! You are not alone. #unite
I was thinking on getting the WarCatz S.T.R.I.K.E 5. Good deal?
Those sounds like browns, am I correct? I'm currently using a Filco with browns, I've had it for more than a year now and it's still one of my best purchases (besides my Leopold FC660C Topre keyboard).
Yeah they are browns, but they also have a sound dampening o-ring on the switches.
I am so used to using membrane keyboard, that when I try and type on this keyboard, it is a heavy mess of me just POUNDING the keys. I am trying to train myself to type with less force. But you, my friend, have absolutely mastered typing on a mechanical keyboard.
Ethan Fisher-Perez Haha it's certainly an adjustment.
Duff The Psych ASMR It really seems like it! :P
Have you ever tried using a stiffer switch? Cherry MX Clears are similar to MX Browns (the switch in the G710+) but require a heavier press to actuate. Oh and the tactile bump is more substantial compared to the MX Browns.

great Video
Thanks again!
Love it.
Can I ask, is the tactile bump really noticeable? I know it's not as much as with Blues, but some people say that there is almost no tactile feedback at all, thanks.
+Tukan Tukanovich It feels a little less like you are clicking a switch and more like the keys are bottoming out on the board if that makes any sense.
I am very intrigued by the placement of your hands on the keys.
You know I never realized that I don't use my thumbs and I extend really far with my right index finger until I watched this haha
Nice keyboard! What switches are they? I have Corsair k70 reds :)
they're cherry mx brown
I'm wondering if this can be carried in a 17" laptop bag (An asus rog one) ?
+Sonsho Ippo I think it is too big. Google the length of it
+Sonsho Ippo Googled the length. Sorry, but the keyboard is 20". Maybe you can get it in there with effort?
+A Person With A RUclips Username That is Extremely Short oh yea thank you, I managed to go actually check the keyboard, too big haha
Hi
Maybe I'm a little bit late but... Is it worth buying this Keyboard?
I'm currently looking for a mechanical Keyboard without these typical (LOUD) typing noises. I don't want my friends to hear every single click (especially when Teamspeaking) and I also don't want to get distracted by my own clicking sounds neither.
Well... I know you uploaded this one year ago but can you still recommend this Keybaord? Are there any alternatives? Heard about the Blackwidow Ultimate stealth... Experiences?
Well, thanks for this amazing Video. Changed my life :')
Jarvan IV. I haven't tried the others. This one feels really nice and is still somewhat loud, but it's less high pitched clicking and more of a thud.
What switches does the G710+ use? Sounds like brown's? maybe red's?
Yep! They are browns with rubber o-rings to make them quieter, which I took out in my other video.
Why do you hit space with your right index finger instead of your thumb? Doesn't that make it hard to get to Y and U?
+ncommerce Not really. I type 100+ wpm still
This or blue veriosn? or g410 or 6gv2 ? Im gonna play GTAV,BF4 whic kb best
This, I have blues and they aren't very suitable for gaming, I am definitely if/when I get a new keyboard will get browns.
i would go with blue but browns are good
I feel so ignorant, I had no idea that gaming specific keyboards existed. Can someone please explain what the difference between a normal keyboard and a gaming keyboard is?
I'm actually going to be releasing an unboxing and review of this where I explain what it's all about.
JustAWhisperingGuy Oh very cool.
Thank you!
A few major ones are:
- Design.
- Mechanical switches, some with tactile feedback which feels amazing!
- Polling rate (how fast data can be send back and forth) can be much higher.
- Dedicated 'G' keys - programable keys.
thanks :D
I just Love ASMR!!
Jacob Billberg Yay!
Does this keyboard become like "worn" in if you use it enough?
+Tommo It feels pretty similar. It's hard to say - I have enjoyed it all the way through.
Duff The Psych Ok thanks man. I just picked this keyboard up and so far its pretty nice.
this is with the O-Rings on ?
i need that keyboard in my life. i don't even have a mechanical one
omg im typing right now
Now this is music
I love how he just doesn't use his right thumb at all.
Official 5OR5 I know... I have no idea how that came to be, but I can type 100 wpm without it.
I see that. Well, if it works then i guess that's no problem ;D
Official 5OR5 It bugs like 80% of people when they see if though hahaha
Official 5OR5 I don't either. Wait, people use their right thumb? Really?..
From what mouse are those clicks?
+Electrollux Razer deathadder 3500 dpi
"from what mouse" slAY me with your correct grammar, sir
Is that keyboard backlit? Cool!
Yep! You can control the brightness of the light too.
JustAWhisperingGuy Neat!!
Isnt it a little annoying to have the wasd keys of a different colour when you are typing? Great vid btw! I love the natural typing, its a better example than to regular typing tests.
***** I don't even notice it.
It's not like most people look on their keyboard when they type.
i love it :)
Is so good
How good is the response time on this keyboard? I'm looking to get one.
I actually ended up taking the o-rings out. I like it alot as it is now
ok. thankyou
is this sound good or bad?
What kinds of cherry MX switches are on that keyboard.
They are brown switches with sound dampening o rings underneath
+JustAWhisperingGuy should I get this or Razer Blackwidow Ultimate. And I was scared that all of a sudden some League of Legends audio would just come booming in.
EMC RID Hahaha I can't say, man. I've never tried the blackwidow. I do like this keyboard, though.
they both use different switches the blackwidow sounds better IMO
This.
The Blackwidow is amazing.
itsZenos - Minecraft Survival Games - GFX yup
Someone take the time to figure out what he wrote!! Lol great video ;)
I own the exact same keyboard
Logitech G710+ Or G410 ?
Just out of curiosity, do keyboard typing sounds trigger your asmr as well Robert?
+Shan L I like the sound, but it's not usually triggering for me.
...Are you using your right pointer finger for the space bar sometimes?
yeah... i just realized I type weird. I think its from gaming. Almost everything is on the let hand and I just peck and pick with the pointer.
More power to you. Just never seen it before.
JustAWhisperingGuy I also use my right hand pointer to press space.
Who taught you to hit the space bar with your index finger? I've never seen anyone do it in my life... Like...your thumb is right there, and you wouldn't have to stretch your middle finger all the way to 'y' and 'u'.
I just tried it and god damn it's uncomfortable to do it that way... Obviously that's because I'm not used to it, but still. Mind sharing what your WPM is?
+Rookz 100somethin
Duff The Psych Damn that's crazy... But how did you come across this technique?
Rookz I've actually heard from a lot of gamer friends that they type the same way. I just learned on my own I guess. Has to do with the way that I angle my right hand.
