    Might be worth adding or pointing out to people that numerous creatures can lay eggs in blanket weed, including newts sometimes, so if you have to remove it, put it in a separate bucket with some water and just monitor it every few days in case something has hatched and needs putting back in the pond. 🙂❤

    The more shelf and floating plants you have, the better off you are. Do not overstock or over feed. I don't use chemicals just plants.

    I have a raised pond with a filtration system. Since late last year, after getting a new filtration system (the old one was dying), i have been getting a lot of this growth in the pond. The pond SHOULD be much cleaner than before. Could this be due to foreign plant material falling into the pond? Should plants be moved away from the pond?

    • @ThePondAdvisor
      @ThePondAdvisor  Год назад +1

      Debris will create more nutrients so blanket weed will feed on that extra load.

    How much impact does frog spawn have? We've had quite a big increase in blamket weed / string algae ater the frogs and toads dropped a load of frog spawn in the pond?

    • @ThePondAdvisor
      @ThePondAdvisor  Год назад +1

      Yes the weed can feed on the egg waste however the tadpoles will feed on algae until they start growing legs.

    When it comes to green water, I've found the only thing that really works is the UV light and that works perfectly. I tried all sorts of potions that claimed to clear green or brown water and they never did a thing. I know blanket weed is different but I'd be skeptical about the solution 1 kind of products. Do they really work on blanket weed? I usually just get it out with a garden cane with that spinning technique....it's quite satisfying but of course it comes back. My gut feeling is the multi clear powder looks more promising than pond clarifiers.

    • @ThePondAdvisor
      @ThePondAdvisor  Год назад +1

      Multi Clear is our leading blanket weed product. But there are many situations and reasons why algae grows. Hence it's not as simple as a one fix solution.
      Uvc is chemical-based filtration in the form of radiation.
      Iongen units are similar releasing copper ions into the pond water column, stopping and killing the blanket weed from growing.

    Will a uv sterilizer work?

    • @ThePondAdvisor
      @ThePondAdvisor  Год назад +1

      Great question no UV only work on single-cell algae or algae cells that pass through the unit. UV is chemical filtration in the form of radiation. UV units also sterilise then free-swimming bacteria that's why the treatment manufacturing companies recommend you switch your UVC units off.
      I am not anti UVC units however I do only use and make recommendations for chemical filtration if truly needed.
      I prefer to work with or aid mother nature

    My pond air stones have made the blanket weed go mad

    • @ThePondAdvisor
      @ThePondAdvisor  Год назад +1

      Thanks for sharing your findings, air helps move water around so if after adding air stones the blanket weed growth has increased then it's mother nature trying to remove the nutrients. Use the other solutions and harvest that nutrient.

      @@ThePondAdvisoreven though its running straight into the pond?

    • @ThePondAdvisor
      @ThePondAdvisor  Год назад +1

      @@timmontgomery8304 yes you can turn the feature off and apply the multi clean and using a paint brush, brush it in and activate the magic of oxygen. Once brushed in leave it to lift off the algae, You can do this multiple times, just brushing the foam to get the granules into the algae.

  • @maxv77

    I just used some blanket weed treatment that you sprinkle on and then remove as much as you can. But it breaks it down so it's really hard to then pick out. My pond is now cloudy with the weed breaking down. It's alonat left a dirty dust coving the healthy pond oxinating weed. I'm now worried it will harm the fish as it will take a few days to clear. I hope. Will my fish be OK?😮

    • @ThePondAdvisor
      @ThePondAdvisor  10 месяцев назад +2

      No idea what you have used, sounds like chemicals so the waste rotting will be causing deoxygenation, the fish should be ok if you aeration is good
