My Grandfather always said a man should have a good pair of shoes with a shine and suit. He said “… if you get invited to a wedding… that day is important to them… show some respect for that and some appreciation for being invited… make sure you dress right ..”
Don't forget, the watches, the bracelets, & the pinky rings, too. That's what always attracted me the most.
A good watch is unique in how it improves how your look. I don't like real flashy stuff like gold and diamonds, but you don't need all that for a classy timepiece. Almost like a nice hat; I wish it was still in fashion for men to wear a suit and hat. I'd dress nice more often if I wasn't always in work boots and overalls, lol.
Maybe another video for watches, cars and other luxury items.
The way he described all the suits and what to wear to court. That guy is very sharp. Have him back on the channel 💯
Michael I just wanted to say thanks a lot for helping me. I’ve been watching your videos for a long long time. Sadly im going through a rough patch right now but watching your videos always keeps me grounded
The decline of people dressing presentably, in my opinion, is indicative of the general decline of standards in our society.
Our manners, clothing, food, entertainment, art and music all reflect how healthy we are as a society. By those standards, we’re on life support.
Yup. I always say this. You’ve got so many people going grocery shopping in literal pajamas. It’s a pathetic culture, in general, in most of America nowadays.
@@truthteller4442 in 90s Greece literally 8 years old was dressed sharper than most people nowadays
I literally had my first suit at 10y.o
My godfather was a member of the management of a small football team and if I wanted to follow him I had to follow the dress code
It's a real decline.. Although don't get me wrong we still have some self respect at least those born in the 80s - 90s.. For the younger generations I really don't know...
@@truthteller4442 People used to wear suits to ballgames, now they wear pajamas to run errands. The way people dress in an airport is another poor sign of the times. It’s no small wonder that there are so many fights and a general lack of courtesy when people can’t be bothered to put on a collared shirt.
@@CJ_Kelly I guess people want comfort in airports more than anything.
The Late Joe Coffey who was a Detective with the NYPD said his Dad always dressed up. If he wanted to pick up his dry cleaning he would get in a suit just to go down and pick it up. Your comment got me thinking about a picture I saw once. I am from Washington Indiana and basketball is very important in the state. There was a picture where the Washington Hatchets had won the state basketball tournament and all the people in downtown Washington were excited and celebrating. Almost all of the men had a suit coat and tie. And I noticed they worse hats, not ball caps, but dress hats or whatever you call those. It was far different back then.
My husband always dresses well even when working outside ,and he always says you look good you feel good, that is his motto, and he is now retired and still looks terrific, nothing like a well dressed man for me, love your content!
very true
Thank you for sharing that. it sounds that you speak of him in past tense, may I ask if he is still with us, and what era he grew up in?
@@angeldesigns1385read it again,ur grammar is off.
You found a wonderful man to share your life! Wishing you many more years of happiness!
I'm more of the scruffy / rough look. Not like a BUM or anything like that. Or someone who looks like they haven't showered, I'm talking like a rough 5 o clock shadow, scruffy/ styled hair, black shades, black T-shirt , chain necklace, leather jacket, dark jeans, black belt with silver buckle, black boots. Stetson or Musk scent cologne. Great muscular build. Nothing huge like a body builder, but a good runner / swimmer build. Farmers strength.
I want my mechanics to be German. I want my barbers and tailors to be Italian. I want my accountants and lawyers to be Jewish.
I want a Japanese mechanic to be honest
I agree. I want my seafood from the north east. My pies from the mid west. My barbecue from the south. My Mexican food from cali.
Love the mob guys suits
I wish I had more opportunities to dress sharp. Weddings and funerals are pretty much the only time I can wear a suit.
Who knew clothing would be so interesting! Dimitri is a cross between an encyclopedia and fun facts. And the psychological aspect of it all… !! Great show!!
It’s an absolute pleasure to be able to listen to Micheal share his experience of the life! Absolute legend!
Nothing wrong with looking sharp
Especially the Bosses Lead by example
Miami Vice took fashion to another level in the 80s. It´s still relevant today, a shirt and a blazer..........it will always look cool f you know how to wear it.
The best drinking game ever lmao take a shot every time mike says “this life” or “that life” 😂
I got to tell ya
Spend the day watching mob films and have a shot everytime someone says forget about it 🤣 will be drinking just about every 5 minutes
Only if it's Franzese wine!
Hey michael, it was a huge pleasure to meet you tonight in birmingham, you are a true gentleman and a great human being.. it was an honour to meet you an huge thanks for taking the time out to take photos with me an sign my book…. Ill never forget tonight.. god bless to you my friend 🙏🙏…. Hope to meet you again sometime . Thank you for being so kind and a great man 👍👍
Beautiful post brother.
Michael you should do some podcast about Europe, Russia, Asia, Arabian, African, Ballkan & Latin America organized crime figures! You have many viewers all the world
I agree! There's an excellent book called The Encyclopedia of Gangsters by Newton, and it's very informative in terms of covering organized crime around the entire globe!
I don't think that Michael Franzese has any interest in broadening his horizon on this topic. The NY Italian thing is his flavor.
We have a similar saying in Greece, in lose translation " the Robes doesn't make the priest"
But I will also have to say that
When I was very young I was given an Advice by a grandfather of Mine
Always dress well, have at least the proper suits for each occasion
Even if you are starving people will treated you with respect, they will be more willing to listen to you"
I took his advice and as a young man I was never denied access to a night club, people would make me better deals for me to Sit at the first rows just because I looked the part,
Door men would let me in even when I was underaged
And I won't mention the strip clubs
I was never unemployed - besides only ones that the entire economy collapsed
Because I was always looking good with a nice suit fitting the time in the day and a nice one
And I emphasize " nice" because with those clerk like restrictive, I'll fitting cheap S it won't work
The first impression it's always important
This was a treat, Michael.
Even as a men’s style consultant, I learned a lot from this
That was a really good Interview. That was one of the best interviews and my favorite.
Love this video. Michael I use to ask you to do mob fashion vids all the time. This is your 2nd! Got super excited both times I saw it. Thank you!!!
I truly enjoy all your content. Always so interesting & insightful topics. Thank you!
Awesome interview Michael. Thank you.
Amazing episode Michael. Dimitri's perspective explains the importance of the unspoken. A Big thank you to both of you. 🙏❤️🙏❤️
My nationality is basque, all the men in basque families own a couple real nice suits for weddings and funerals. The suits are always custom tailored by the women.

French or Spanish?
Soy you’re Spanish! 😎
@@elpistolero9394 he could be Spanish or French, I’m 100% Basque and come from Pays Basque in Southwesterrn France. The Basque Country is spilt between both nations, about 2/3 is in Spain.
@@Wimmig43at339 I'm Spain side basque ,that's the basque I speak. I'm also 100 percent.
@@Luis-pz6ni a lot of my relatives are from the Spanish side so I’m technically both, but my great grandparents all the way to me were born in France so we consider ourselves “French Basque”. I don’t look at either side differently even though a lot of Spanish Basque hate us. If you’re Basque you’re Basque, we all share the same blood basically from all the isolationism. I wouldn’t be surprised if we were distant cousins. I moved to the USA when I was 9 and moved to a city with a large Basque population and I found d out last year that a bunch of the Basque kids (most Spanish) I went to school with were my distant cousins through Ancestry. It was surreal.
I'm listening to your book on Audiobook. Love it!
One of the best sit downs thanks Michael.
Interesting how Dimitri did his Research for The Mob Movies, like He did with Goodfellas, for Casino, and for even Law Firms, I enjoyed very much!! Thanks for having him Michael!!😀👏👏👏👍
I've learnt a lot from this great guy, Michael, about what has been happening over the years. Thank you!
Can’t wait to meet you Micheal, I know you’ll be a very busy man during you’re time in England, and the odds of me getting a sit down and having a glass of wine with you are slim to none but I look forward to seing you finally. Really can’t wait it’s all very exciting. God bless
Very interesting and enjoyable!,didn't want it to end!😊
Hugo Boss did the same thing for the Nazis
And produced the baddest military uniforms EVER!
Stop virtue signaling
@@neverobey1477 take your own advice
Just clothes people.
Still the most bad ass uniforms. It’s not virtue signaling it’s just a fact. Haters. Hate only comes from beneath from the peasant class.
I really enjoyed this sit down
In todays climate, everyone is so casual with t shirt, shorts and sneakers. If I’m not wearing a suit or sports jacket, I still wear a collar shirt and dress shoes
i like suits but i also like casual in the summer like a polo shirt with shorts and boatshoes
I wear t-shirts and jeans. Pretty much exclusively.
LOVE THE GREEN ❤
This was a really great discussion. So many great points and a ton of deep thought. Cheers!
Dressing well made them look important
Not only that. No one wants to do business or spend money with a broke person who looks homeless. You dress well business comes to you and everyone wants to give you their money.
Thank you for this content Mr Mike
I really enjoyed this sit down. I'm going to go back and watch those films again since I own them. 🙂 Love the information about the clothing!
This was a fascinating episode, really enjoyed it ❤
Loved the style in Sopranos, most of it anyway. Until the final two seasons they got lazy and put Tony in stupid looking Hawaiian shirts all the time.
The style and fit back then was much superior to today’s tight fit, very unmanly. Clothes are all about the fit. You need a tailor to really look good. I have all my suits tailored to be not too tight but not sloppy loose.
The materials and quality today is garbage too, I remember when you could get fine Italian wool suits in average men’s stores. Now the quality of the material is pure trash. Good thing I saved all my clothes from early 2000’s so I don’t have to buy much of today’s garbage. I like the brands like Claiborne, Perry Ellis, Zanella, Zegna, and some Ralph Lauren suits.
Looking great Mike!
Great video - Fascinating how costumers are storytellers.
Praise be to God for your lifes reform, Rejoice!
Great interview
❤ love this. I took a film on culture class years ago and it was all about how nothing in a movie is ever an accident. I loved the breakdown from your guest about the clothing and hats in the movies!!!! 38:31
Amazing interview. Very interesting! Alot of good wardrobe in Boardwalk Empire too.
Very interesting sit-down. I'm not a big fashion guy( I own 2 suits and a few ties) and I thought this would be a little dull. However, I thoroughly enjoyed it. Thank you.
I sold menswear for years. This is a fascinating conversation! You're both spot on. When I sold a new suit to a young man going to his first big professional interview, I'd see his posture & confidence grow as he checked out his new image. Then I'd tell them "see how confident you are? When you go for the interview, don't be just confident. Go in being convinced! And don't forget to give a firm handshake & look the person in the eyes." I heard back from many of them after they got the good news! PS- fedoras & men's hats in general went out of style when JFK refused to wear hats. Trump had his own clothing line for years. Remember dress shirts that had white collars & a different color for the body? That was a Trump thing. Lastly, I love the way you self promote! Simple but very effective. You should do Shaq next. Then you may tap into all the NBA money. It can't be easy to find suits for guys of that size. And most of them are flashy dressers.
Incredible video 👍🏻🤌🏻❤️🇬🇧
Great episode!
Michael, when are you coming to The Portsmouth Music Hall in Portsmouth, New Hampshire!
This would be a GREAT venue and I'll buy row seats....
Michael you always look sharp, suit or no suit. Clothing makes a differece in making an expression. Glad you're going to Dublin, a fun and beautiful city. Ciao. !
Respect to you . Awesome channel you have and top of my list. I was friends with Gerard Ouimette . That’s how I met other higher up gentlemen. You may or may not have known him. New York , Chicago and Providence.
Great podcast with an interesting view on wardrobe and movie budgets
Mr. Franzese is the best mafia historian of this century. I've been watching his videos for years now. And if he took part in a documentary on the mob with other mob historians I would most definitely watch it. I watched one made in 1996 a few days ago.
Michael DiLeonardo is one heck of a mob historian and is also a former mafia made member
@MichaelBlain7990 don't like mob historians I know it was evil they came from South America to Ellis Island there were no airplanes in North America before 1920. That's what I think the airplanes come from Asia
@@MichaelBlain7990no offense man but they have lied to us for weird reasons but I found out that the Japanese and Australians were more advanced than the people in North and South America. One thing to keep in mind South America is older in my opinion than North America.
@@TimothyZakaria ?? I don’t understand what u mean
@@MichaelBlain7990 what I mean is mobsters messed my life up. Stopped me from being an athlete I was a 2 sport athlete. No offense but I don't like it when they come at athletes they did that a lot back then.
Just got home to Lincoln after seeing Michael’s Birmingham show, it was brilliant and great to meet him. If you get the chance go and see it.
Mr Michael you are an inspiration to me and you really help me and a lot more people out then you know.
I want to commend you on your suit and pocket handkerchief you are wearing today, the colors are very complimentary to your complexion. You look very nice today..
Amazing video and very educational
The last 10 mins was an episode in itself
It has been requested before (though not by me).
In movies we often see mafia sitdowns over a dinner.
So would it be possible for you to make a video (if you haven´t already) about what kind of food and drink you usually had at different mob meetings?
Did he design the ensemble your wearing? Love the added color with the handkerchief . Oh, guess I should've fast forwarded the podcast.
Who would've thought that one day it would be the norm to wear pajamas out in public. Or cashier's with piercings all over their faces. Just sad
Mobsters thought that if they dressed well they would be respectable but they didn't realize that they couldn't change their character, which with most of them were evil to the core! As the saying goes,"Never judge a book by its cover!"
Best style that comes to mind is Robert Deniro as Sam Rothstein in Casino.
Lost my pinky ring at an Iron Maiden concert in San Bernardino CA and a Nike shoe ! Place was packed so I can't blame noone 😅
This is insanely interesting
💯 Dressed to go out or for a meeting But a boss who dresses down doesn’t draw attention to himself. I’ve seen people dressed like millionaires & don’t have a pot to piss in. I’ve seen millionaires dressed like peasants. Only a fool will judge somebody on their outward appearance I would think you would understand that, Michael
You got the right idea and it's very true!
great video about clothing dressing up in mob god bless be safe there!!!!!
Agreed!
I am in sales and I meet with business owners and I always look my best, not just with clothes but well groomed. I see sales people coming to talk with business owners looking like they just came out of a washing machine. It takes 30 seconds to make an impression. People will judge you.
80% of my clothes is tailored and that’s the best feeling, when you dress good you feel good.
Dressing in Style
My wedding dress,1980, coming out of the 70's had scoop neck with giant pointy collar with interfacing in it because it had stiffness to it. Not flat. It reminded me the collar that Elvis wore with his jumpsuits. I loved it.
The guest is intelligent and persistent. He’s going places in the future!👍🏿
LOVE IT
Loved ' CASINO' for the suits and clothes that DeNiro wore
I have never nor will I ever respect another human more for how expensive there clothes are compared to others that being said I think a man's first impressions is everything and should try and be presentable also
you can dress well without your clothes costing a fortune; it’s about fit, colour coordination, etc
@@user-zd3xq9nl7p agree 💯 it's not hard either be surprised how cheaply I can dress and still get compliments
I can dress you up to look like a million dollars. But. If you’re not a good communicator everything goes right down the toilet.
Hey Micheal, are you going to do another Mob Movie Monday? If so, can you do The St. Valentine's Day Massacre film of 1968? It's a great film, thanks.
Have a great time in the UK Michael. Coming to your show in Liverpool will be the 2nd time as saw you last time you were here 2 years ago in Hull. And whilst in Ireland you have to try a pint of Guiness. Im not a fan of it myself but everytime i go there i drink it as it tastes different there than anywhere else in the world i have been. I promise you will enjoy it. Also like the idea of you making a line of clothing. Maybe call it moblife clothing or moblife casuals making everyday casual wear clothes with a mob twist to them. Whatever it is you end up doing it will be successful as everything else you put your mind towards doing ends up being successful for you. Good luck with it and enjoy England and the UK and god bless you and your family
Tate brothers & Micheal will be amazing sit down with 3 gentlemen interacting like adults and sharing wisdom 😊😊😊😊
You know West beyond point of rescue if they think Mr Tate bad but creepy man in dress with make up is positive to young kids at school
Aww. How nice, Michael is sitting down with two sex trafficking "gentlemen". So much for being a "born again Christian".
Mob stereotypes are fun/humorous, but it's good to hear an honest perspective about that life and not have to rely on Hollywood silly portrayals. Where I grew up, the gangsters have no class or respect for anyone. HA chased em all out; the cops and government wouldn't lift a finger to protect the community. HA had to clean up my town, so there are some outlaws I really respect. Cheers, Michael, and thank you for sharing your stories and perspectives 👍🏼 Guys on the wrong side of "the law" aren't always bad men.
Welcome to England, Michael.
40:12 that one make me laugh he is telling you that , like I'm sure Michael knew the tailor lol
I have a question for michael, did the mafia members practice any martial arts in your era?
My son is a massive fan of yours, you have inspired him to purchase a few smart suits 😀
Where would I find that picture/painting in the background mate? 👌

Just a word of warning Michael before you go to Dublin it's not in the UK, it won't go down well if you mention that in Dublin, love the channel, regards from Dublin 🇮🇪
Blessings Franzese Family🇮🇹😘🐢🇮🇹💯🫶 Happy Mother's Camilla 💚🤍♥️💎🇮🇹💯
Thanks, guys. I really enjoyed this conversation and I agreed with everything you said. Some people think having money equals being well dressed. But that's not always the case. Just look at how poorly a lot of celebrities dress.
Mafia definitely inspired my style and mindset
Michael are we getting the wine over in the UK anytime soon, I’d love to try it when it lands on my soil. 🍷😀
Have you ever watched Fargo season 2? Would love Michael’s take on it.
You guys are talking about them dressing impeccably and you never see them in shorts T-shirts all of that made me think of that one scene in the Irishman and if anyone has ever seen it, you know exactly what I’m talking about. This video is really making me miss my grandfather.
The fashion designer didn’t unbutton his suit when he sat down 🤔 lmaoo jpp
Raised in the mid and late 1950's, it was just starting to become even more expected for people to wear a tie and jacket or a full suit. Part of the sales pitch to do so was that you could trust people when they looked respectable. That may have been true in the beginning but now our biggest criminals in the world are typically dressed really well wearing very nice suits, look at Congress and much of the federal government if you need further proof LOL. The worst shyster salesmen I have dealt with in my life were among the best dressed people I encountered frequently. Starting about 15 years ago, I gave up business dress and dress the way I like which is extremely casual, maybe a step above homeless lol. I've been told a number of times that that will prevent me from meeting or being noticed by powerful or influential people. My feeling is anybody who's going to judge me on site by my clothing is typically not somebody I need in my life. The best people I've ever known as friends or workers and mentors didn't judge others on their appearance, they judge them by their actions and are they their word!. So people can take me as I am or they can choose to stay away from me I really don't care which...
Wild and crazy guys 😂
“it’s the clothing that draws young people to the mob life” that’s ironic bcuz i also liked mob history bcuz of the fashion
Your a great speaker plus soo handsome
