      You guys and Amir should do a tier list, like crinacle has for IEMs and Headphones, this way you don't need to do a video on a bad product maybe just talk about it in a livestream and whoever loses it will still have a database on a website where they can see that the product is in fact bad.
      Like maybe do a "show" of some kind talking about audio, maybe every Friday you guys oget togheter to talk a little and take some questions from the community, and you would maybe talk about the bad products that came in recently maybe show some graphs and then put the graphs along with price and a simple description or rating to it on a spreadsheet in a website. If there's a full review provide a li k to it of there isn't just the data is already great!
      I recently had my headphone break down and went looking for a new one and that database from Crin helped me soo much, I could quickly narrow down the options with the tonality that I like and around the price I was willing to pay and then just watch more in depth reviews on those.

    These speakers developed a following on avsforum because they have qualities that typical hifi speakers don't have. That is the ability to play at full reference volume without any need for extra amplification. They do require EQ and subs. These have a peak spl of 126dB. Not that anyone should listen at that level but it means that at 105dB peaks at the listening position, these aren't even breaking a sweat. There have been many comparisons, some blind, to other speakers and the Behringers held their own. Erin is the first one in the thread that I could find to say they sound bad. No one claims they are a highly accurate speaker, but for what they can do, they are a bargain. Just wanted to provide a little context to those wondering why anyone would use such "bad" speakers.

    • @ErinsAudioCorner
      @ErinsAudioCorner  Год назад +2

      According to the multitone data, the SPL limit of 126dB is likely not accurate if it's to be anything actually meaningful. The MTON data shows this speaker's distortion in the midrange alone is at 3% at 96dB.

    • @gregworrel2623
      @gregworrel2623 Год назад +1

      @@ErinsAudioCorner I'm not sure where I got the 126dB max SPL. I don't see a spec from Behringer. They do spec 96dB sensitivity and 250 watt max continuous power handling which gives 120dB as max at 1m. Still much higher than many other inexpensive speakers. Looking at your graphs, it looks like you took that 3% distortion from the full range test? Whatever the numbers are, the question still remains as to why so many people like them. Saying that they just don't know better does not jibe with the facts if you read the last few comments on the thread at avsforum. Clearly you didn't like the way they sound. You can point to the measurements as a reason why but that doesn't answer the question as to why other people like them compared to alternatives. The measurements should help us understand why we like what we like. Putting the measurements first puts the cart before the horse.

    • @tonygutermuth9347
      @tonygutermuth9347 Год назад +1

      @@gregworrel2623 Are you saying that subjective opinion should be put before objective data? It has been proven through extensive, controlled scientific testing that sound quality absolutely can be measured and that, in general, there are objective representations of what most people consider to be good sound. If someone is offended by objective data, then they probably should ask themselves if they have a good frame of reference for what good sound is.

    • @gregworrel2623
      @gregworrel2623 Год назад +1

      @@tonygutermuth9347 I think you may be overstating how extensive the testing was. Did they test line source vs point source? Did they test high sensitivity vs low sensitivity when the power is limited to what an AVR can put out? Did they test speakers that play louder against speakers that won't play as loud? Did they bring price into play, as in, "Would you pay 3 times as much for speaker B as compared to speaker A?" It's easy to say I prefer speaker B if I don't have to pay for it. But maybe the difference is not worth $5000 to me, or even $1000. There are lots of factors that were not tested. Speakers under test were level matched and played at the same volume. So what happens when you have a speaker that will play louder with little power and able to bring a commercial cinema feel to a home theater? The science doesn't really speak to that.
      As I understand it, the purpose of the scientific testing was to determine how to make a speaker that people liked. You say yourself "what most people consider to be good sound." Most people. Most people prefer a speaker with a flat frequency response and smooth off-axis, when all else is equal. But what about when all else is not equal, as mentioned above. They didn't test for that as far as I know. And most people is not everyone. That means some people must value some other factors. They may be outliers or they're prioritizing other factors.
      The science has attempted to tell us what we are most likely to prefer. It should not be used to tell us what we must like.

    • @tonygutermuth9347
      @tonygutermuth9347 Год назад

      @@gregworrel2623 Hi Greg. I think you should go read more about the testing before you make statements about what they did or didn't do in the testing. I doubt that you will do that because you don't want to believe the results. What Erin did was test the speaker and point out serious flaws in their response. You are basically saying that the testing doesn't matter because lots of people like the speaker. I am saying that your conclusion is faulty because most people have the ability to recognize a linear response with low distortion when they hear it and this has been proven at great expense. My conclusion is that people like this speaker because it is efficient and cheap, but not because it sounds good. Your argument against that is that you aren't one of those people that prefers a linear response and low distortion. OK. I accept you for who you are.

    I've had it's predecessor, the Eurolive B215D for over a decade. Same enclosure, same problems. The grill actually rings when you tap it. It's one source of alot of resonance so removing the grill solves some of resonances. You need to stuff this with alot of dampening material to get it on an even keel, then they sound half decent for it's price, but even then, you dont get around the fact that the enclosure is simply too small and built out of some awfull plastic.

    Kinda expected this from a cheap PA speaker. It just has to play loud, and this one seems to do ok at that since it has reasonably well behaved dispersion pattern and relatively good SPL abilities. For its intended application, its actually ok (Edit: And by "ok", I mean something dirt cheap to use at an event for voice announcements). But I would seriously question the use of any PA speaker in an application of fidelity since efficiency and surviving abuse are the two top design goals. Still its a good case study 🙂

    I agree with the video title, but calling any product "bad" is mostly an expression of someone's opinion, turned into a pseudo fact.
    In no way does Behringer advertise these speakers as Home Theater devices. You could as well review a lawn mower, stepper motor or a floppy drive and point out its acoustic resonances.
    I'm sure the speakers technically work to play music and amplify voices, which is what they're advertised at. There's no "Hifi" reference in the Behringer product description. I don't see why you'd call the devices bad speakers if they never claimed to be anything but cheap and portable.
