    This is a video of me making an affordable garden gate with basic tools.
    This gate cost £50 to make. I used some of the old parts from the previous gate. Such as the latch and bolt lock.
    This gate is made from new thick feather edge boards and 4 x 1 inch supporting struts. I used new hinges too.
    I made sure I hid the screws underneath the feather edge over lap to give the gate a clean look.
    I am not a carpenter but enjoy making things and doing DIY.
    The music from the video is here open.spotify.com/artist/6lctI... The songs are called 'You make me smile' and 'That's the way I stand'.

    The first half of the ruclips.net/user/postUgkx3ICSK6nSknaL_45CU2NmFSoXjarGMDiJ book is everything about wood: types, tools, finishes, setting up shop etc. The second half is all about doing projects for inside and outside of the home. The color pictures are helpful. After reading a dozen of these types of books, this is probably the best overall (layout, color photos, plans). Only detraction is that many of the projects use a table saw/router/planer, which are usually expensive and take up space, so the plans are less friendly to newcomers and the budget conscious. But I know I can use a drill, circular saw or a jigsaw to make the projects.

      I used basic tools on this project just to show it can be done with an electric drill and a handsaw. Ideally, it would be better to have an electric saw such as a circular saw for this for doing this project. Check out my other videos for tools that I’ve used.

      Rodrigo Mazzola Yes the garden was hit hard by building the man cave The grass and the fences were ruined at the end of the build. They are much better now.

    Not a bad gate with the tools you used. Personally I would of had two up rights and mortised the frame joints just for more strength and made it the same height as the fence so it’s all inline. But still a great job good effort.

    • @AngusMcGregor

      Tom Clark Yes. Good point. But I didn't want to make it too low or the passers by would be able to look over the gate and see me sunbathing naked in my garden.

      It's in line with the existing wonky post attached to the house - better higher than shorter as this improves security

      You can do for extra strength. . I didn’t and it hasn’t effected the rigidity and works okay.

    • @AngusMcGregor
      @AngusMcGregor  5 лет назад +3

      Yes, screws pull the feather edge together and holds it really firmly, You could use nails but sometimes they come undone over time.

    • @SkillBuilder
      @SkillBuilder 5 лет назад +3

      He has done the right thing. If you nail it then the constant movement and vibration will work them out and the whole thing looks loose as a goose.

    • @phancypants1892
      @phancypants1892 4 года назад

      @@AngusMcGregor I'm in process of trying to recycle a similar gate . It's not too bad. New wood is definitely needed in my case. But if it lasts a year I'll be amazed. I made one of bed slats that felt sturdier than this! 😂
