but to me, the technical production is not on that level that "tonight" was.
the worst problem of the industry has become that it creates technical entry levels for styles, that go with budget.
of course perfection is a beautiful thing too, but at the end of the day, personality is the kind of imperfection that makes one distinct from the average.
jessica you won young fans with power ballads. but it is legit to follow different styles. then, it is good to deconstruct and reassemble everything, and take the time for this. when it's about a release.
in short, some styles demand autotune. it's the "sound". but the cost on personality can be extremely high, except the engineer is top notch and taylors every part to the personality of the artist. that might be a long way to go, until its perfect.
another secret is to create one's own drum sounds that no one else has. prince did this for a long time.
