That cigarette bit is enough to win an Oscar.
There is a bit on YT where he speaks about actor's skill. He said something about the theatre actors knows how to relax, do the stuff with their hands, legs... but often movie actors do not. Because in movies often camera is on the face of actor and not on his whole body.
Sir Ian can do these tricks :)
@@Malisman77 Patrick Stewart also had a bit about his time on star trek. All the other actors had no idea what to do with their hands all the time as the star trek uniforms didn't have any pockets.
Seriously dude...that was like he was smoking for real..and that matchstick he threw at the end.👏
I had to rewind and watch it again to make sure there was no cigarette. A wonderful impromptu bit of theater.
Isn't it thou haha
Also, can we just acknowledge how adorable this is that Dame Judi Dench and Sir Ian McKellen snuck around Beckingham Palace at a royal ball like a couple of teenage badass besties??
RIGHT!? 😆😄🥰
And the cops talking to them as they were a bunch of unruly kids in school
His miming of the cigarette is sheer genius detail.
An indication of what a great actor he is! I smoke, and definitely couldn't mime having one hahaha
funny bit in my head i hear a lighter and a cig faint burning sound. lol.
Harry Joyce I smoke as well, and I thought it was spot on.
I don’t smoke and thought it was spot on
Someone pointed out that when he went to gesture with his cigarette hand he put the cigarette in his other hand!
McKellen is a national treasure
Fock off
So was Stan lee😢
Sensational pleasure.
Ringo Lingo his voice is gold
Tracey Ulmann reference hopefully?
That’s hysterical “spotlight... Sir Ian don’t forget you’re in Buckingham place” haha
"Oh, not you two again!" A Sir and a Dame being addressed like two naughty children.
@@Yngvarfo Britain...
Best thing i heard all day
😆😂🤣 I just adore Sir Ian, I recently was lucky enough to see him at the Duke of York theatre in London in the role of King Lear, incredible performance, and someday if I am able to return on visit to England I have a great Red Chair story! 😊
Palace not place 😂😂😂
A comic relief sketch please of Sir Ian and Dame Judi wreaking their mischief at Buckingham Palace!
I’d like to know who sat in the consort’s throne. I hope it was Sir Ian, especially given her career and his... personality.
That would be epic!
Oh please make a miniseries of it with them running and hiding from the police.
❤
Six months later “Not you two again!” 🤣🤣🤣
Hahahahaha
That policeman has a good memory!
@@chuchulainn9275
I doubt that ever happened, but it makes for a good story.
Yes, we all heard it...
@@chuchulainn9275 I don't think you forget Ian McKellen!
"It brings out the worst in you, Buckingham Palace."
*That whole scene between Sherlock and John with eventually Mycroft.*
Ooohhhh YESSSSS!!!!!!
Ahhahaha yess the whole time i was thinking 'did he steal an ashtray?'
But nooope
I love that scene. So funny being naked in Buckingham. NO ONE has the balls to do it but Sherlock.
Ian played Sherlock too, so it works on many levels
"We're in Buckingham Palace, the very heart of the British nation. Sherlock Holmes, put your trousers on".
1:45 a tiny master class on how to appear to smoke a cigarette
fig. 8 There was more acting brilliance in that little move than we’ve seen from Hollywood this year.
Charles Cordts elegant and effortless
Thought the same!
I know right. That was good
I was actually convinced by that, felt it.
We just lost Stan Lee, will someone please bubble wrap Sir Ian McKellen.
It's ok, Stan was 95, Sir Ian is only in his late 70s =)
@@TheTradge well, Stan Lee did reach a remarkable age, not everyone is that lucky.
Mustn't forget the air holes.
@@TheTradge we lost Robbin William n he was in his mid 70's i belive n alan rickman too very young 😭
FriendlyDeafAngelASL - Actually both were in their 60s, Robin was 63 and Rickman was 69 I believe. We just have to hope Sir Ian is healthy and doesn’t have any mental issues.
Notice at 1:51 when he gesticulates with both hands, he still holds on to the “cigarette” with his right hand. And then at 1:54 he hands it off to his left, and keeps it there while gesticulating with the right hand, only to pick it up with the right again as he tosses it away.
What an absolute pro he is, he’s just the best
gameXylinder True! Not only that - he even remembers that he has it on his left while he tells of the policeman reminding him of where he is, he brings it back to his mouth to ‘swallow’ it 😂 What a master he is!
Or...a habit of been a constant smoker.
And even before that he reached into his jacket to pull out his cigarette and matches.
@@gelimatmicet, a have a habit of constantly pooping, doesn't mean I know how to act like I'm pooping convincingly.
@@taytoyaddic7ed881 HAHAHAHAHAHA! 🤣
We just need the show with actors sirs and actresses dames where they tell their best stories!
So...
The Graham Norton Show?
It’s not a show, but have you seen this? www.imdb.com/title/tt7363336/ Dames Judi Dench, Maggie Smith, Eileen Atkins and Joan Plowright swap stories for an hour and a half, well worth a watch!
ruclips.net/video/71yDfG2gjtA/видео.html
Compilation of Dames and Sirs on Graham Norton! 😀
have you seen the trailer for The Good Liar
There is
Sir Ian is the definition of "Young at heart".
I pray that one day I get to see him turns 105 years old or something.
Me too god bless him
1:45 Oh how we are reminded that he is one of the greatest actors in the world. That smoking mime is so real I saw the smoke. :)
I was thinking the same thing! Brilliant actor.
Now you know when Gandalf is smoking with Bilbo and Radagast, Ian Mckellen is actually smoking real weed in the film XD.
"Vanessa Kirby"
Hahahahaa
care to explain? I don't get it
@@fpibins She's the actress that plays Lizzy II's sister in the Netflix series "The Crown"
@@fpibins
She is the actress who plays that real person in the TV show The Crown.
I know. I screamed! 😂
I felt like that was the funniest moment from the whole video 😂😂😂
"Sir Ian don't forget you're in Buckingham Palace."
😂😂😂
"Oh not you two again."
Gods Bless the Brits. Only in the UK could this kind of thing happen. Had this sort of thing happened in any other country, they'd have been in serious trouble. 🤣
*British history*: Has countless wars, treachery, and political power-struggles to win the throne of England
*Sir Ian and Dame Judi at a party*: Found it, let's sit and chill on them lol
Pure icons.
Honestly love when Sir Ian is on the show. He is such great story teller.
WhiteWolf • Sir Ian Mcklellan
• Morgan Freeman
• Sir David Attenborough
• Michael Caine
I would want one of these four men to narrate my whole life story 😂😂
"The queen's late sister, Venessa Kirby-eh-um princess Margaret!" Sir Ian got jokes!!
1:05 I bet it was Dame Judy: "Quick Ian, nobody's watching...lets sit on the thrones..."
And I bet she doesn't remember it either..lol 😂
And I bet they both tried to sit on the Queens throne...
After all, she IS a national treasure.
Forget that mate, I have a clear picture in my head of them seeing the thrones. Looking at each other. And then back at the thrones. And then quite casually sitting on them without a word in complete unison.
@@wiremuwiniata1216 and doing this with a mischievous smile in their faces...
My man casually admits to high treason.
He and Dame Judi Dench were, after all, the Macbeth.
His shirt is made of watercolor swatches. omg i love this man!
“So we sat on them.” Just so chill and calm lol
“So, we sat on them.”
The timing is so perfect. 😂
Sir Ian tells the best stories!
Sir Ian McKellen is an absolute RASCAL of a man and I love him for it 😄❤️
"Vanessa Kirby"
"We sat on them"
"It brings out the worst in you, Buckingham Palace"
"Sir Ian don't forget you're in Buckingham Palace"
"Oh not you two again"
I love this man
I could listen to Sir Ian all day!
Their dancing while looking for the thrones is hilarious 😂
The fact that he used the British word for cigarette is priceless
I love Sir Ian. He's a superb raconteur.
Everyone needs to have a Sir Ian McKellen in their life.
I still wait him one day come to my house and send me for adventures. He'll be there, I know it.
@@bertal7960 Oh... you're still waiting?
I can tell you it was a blast! I got in loads trouble with trolls, spiders, goblins, elves... dragons... dwarves.
I also found this strange glowing stone... but it was most likely a hollow fake rock with a led light in it, so I threw it in the trashcan, thought nothing by it.
Sir Ian Mckellen, I really love You..
He's a good storyteller, and a funny one. I could listen to him all day.
A raconteur 🥰
Sir Ian is just the best guest
He'll never get invited again if the Queen watches this! LOL.
David Duvall somehow I don’t see Queen Elizabeth watching Graham Norton’s show. Just saying...
Not sure. She does have a sense of humor in private. She might enjoy a reenactment.
I wonder if she watches Game of Thrones...
@@OptimusGPrime she doesn't watch game of thrones, she plays the game of thrones
She would lol same as us
I love the long pause and then just “………so we sat on them” 😂
Magneto and M playing silly buggers at Buckingham Palace. I love it.
Not enough people appreciating the underrated badass line of, “I think this the room where you got made a Dame and I got made a Knight.”
I actually expected smoke to come out of sir Ian's mouth during the Buckingham palace story. My God the miming of the getting out the matches and the cigarette is sheer genius
No surprise, of course, but Ian is always a great story teller. Could watch him tell stories all day.
He is the most genuine and adoramble English actor.
He's so entertaining and lively when he tells stories. Love it. What a gem!
Wow... What a wonderful story. Sir Ian and Dame Judy Dench acting like kids in the Palace. Awesome, indeed.
Sir Ian is precious and must be protected at all costs.
The way the guard warned him, I felt like I did something wrong. "Don't forget..." damn that was like a father talking down to you, with righteousness.
That's something Gandalf would do
YES
And make a ship from smoke.
This never gets old, totally hilarious. 😂
Sir Ian taking his rightful place as Queen ❤️🧡💛💚💙💜
He's got such a fabulous way of telling stories.
So fabulous!
what an interesting and likeable character, so many wonderful stories he would have to tell.
He is marvelous. His cigarette bit is just extraordinary. The way he makes it look so real just shows what a great actor he is 😊
the "acting like he's smoking a cigarette" bit is genius.. also his way of telling a story 👌 spot on
I love Sir Ian 🥰
This just my favorite interview of all time. He just to funny with dancing and smoking. Lol
Dame Judi and Sir Ian are such an adorable couple even if they are not together. I love his shoes!
A pair of *ABSOLUTE ICONS* 👑❤
Sir Ian so supremely elegant: love him!
Simply the best. Love classically trained actors😊
Sir Ian would be the absolute best dinner companion.
The comic timing of "...so we sat on them" is absolutely perfect!
I simply love this story. His telling of it is priceless.
Imagine the Bro comedy with Dame Judy and Ian messing around. Fabulous.
“The Queen’s late sister, Vanessa Kirby” 🤣🤣🤣🤣
Having a Prince Ian McKellen and Queen Judi Dench for one day would be quite an awesome day.
*Queen Ian McKellen and Queen Judi Dench
Well Judi has played two Queen's in film alrwady so her as Elizabeth II and him as Prince Philip in the final series/episode of 'The Crown' would be good.
* Queen Judi and Gandalf the White
What a treasure this man is! I need more interviews with Sir Ian, his stories are always hilarious, and the way he tells them is perfect!
Tomorrow's headline: "Sir Ian McKellen found mauled to death by pack of corgis"
They’re tougher than they look
"... So we sat on them!"
This is gold.
Someone make sure this man sticks around
They are just such a great and wonderful bunch of national treasures! It makes my heart sing with joy to think that these well respected, grounded individuals represent all that is normal, sane and decent in this world! God bless them all - not!
Ian Mckellen, please never change.
He's 80 years old. I don't think he's ever changing. 😂
“The queens late sister Vanessa Kirby ah Margaret.” Lol
Brilliant!!!
It’s nice to know that the thrones finally had two worthy people sitting in them. Even if for a minute or two. 😂👌🏻
Sir Ian & Dame Judi rolling up on Buckingham Palace each time like......."Prepare for trouble ! and make it double !".
"Buckingham Palace brings out the worst in you." That's not a sentence I ever expected to hear.
Absolutely precious, Sir Ian is such a personality. One of the favourite guests. And this is easily becoming one of the best episodes ever.
How can you not love this wonderful man!
McKellen's low and slow voice .... a national treasure!
This Englishman needs to be protected at all time
Sir Ian is a wonderful guy, loved by many in our country! A true gentleman, a amazing actor, love this guy! Respectx
Those are the most unexpected shoes😂
When Sir Ian McKellen returned the second time. The police officer should of shouted out "You shall not pass" 🤣.
judi dench and ian mckellan are like twins that always get in trouble and patrick stewart is like their older brother
With life so crazy right now it’s such a relief to come back to Sir Ian and his amazing, hilarious stories. Life is always better with a little Sir Ian. 🥳
I love the fact the police just let ian do what he wants lol
Ooohh~~ Gandalf sitting on THE throne (of the English monarch) and him telling the story nonchalantly. Priceless. 😌😘👏
Oh man how I would enjoy seeing that whole scene going down.
Ian you are an absolute legend
He is absolutely amazing.
Ian and Judi seem like really fun people to be around, considering that both of them are pretty big goofballs with each other.
No one tells astory like Ian McLellan!!!! 💚💚💚
I love this story. Sir Ian "smoking story" and his reenactment is perfect. So Good!!!
PEACE to ALL.
Two old Queens on the throne.😂
Sir McKellan is truly a treasure for the entire planet
Thanks for your love and support, I really do appreciate. 💙💙💙💙
These stories ... better than most movies
Every kid would love to do these little mischievously things he was able to do. It comes across like a most adorable little story for grandchildren.
when Ian is on the sofa, you know gold stories are gonna be told
How could you not?!
