Yes. Parents waste so money on name brand clothes that kids or teens are just going to out grow! Little ones wearing North Face or under armour clothes... ridiculous! 🙄 My parents didn't get me nice clothes or shoes until I was in high-school. They were very frugal.

My parents didn't get any brand name stuff for us at my very brand oriented elementary school. I survived. I also got gifted (from friends) a pencil bag and a book bag from the "it" brands for my birthday that staved off some of the worst of the ridicule from horrid children. Of a parent can afford it, a single bougie item for a kid might be a nice splurge, while still teaching kids that this is unnecessary and being budget-concious and frugal is better.

For family owned theaters the concessions are the only way they make money. The movie studios get most of the ticket sales. Support your local family owned theaters.

Let's give Rachel the benefit of the doubt that she does not understand the film distribution business. But yeah, someone should educate her about how the money flows. On a first run movie, 90% of the ticket sales goes to the distributor. The theater makes their money on popcorn and junior Mints.

For me, it's the opposite. I'm not going to watch a movie (hardly any TV) unless I'm actually at the movies. It's time spent with a loved one. I don't really snack so I don't have to worry about buying food. The show is walking distance from my house so there's no transportation costs involved. Plus, it's only a few times a year, at most.

I used to manage a self-storage facility. There were times when I tried to talk people out of renting. If you can go a month without the things you are going to store, then you don't need it. Many units go to auction. In Florida, your stuff is gone after non-payment of 2 months.

I’m with you on the clothes thing. Most of my clothes are thrifted. If you go to thrift stores in upscale neighborhoods, you can find all the high dollar labels. My friend and I used to call one particular store “Dillards” because all the rich ladies would dump their out of season clothing, shoes and purses there.
I once found a $350 pair of Italian name brand shoes sold at Nordstrom. They were like new for $8.
Nobody, except my closest friend, knows how we could possibly have two lovely homes that are 100% paid for. It’s possible! I’ve followed your Dad’s advice for many years. We didn’t get any inheritance or win the lottery. Many years of hard work and consistent saving and living below my means. It really does work!

Although, I do agree with the fact that movie theaters charge a ton for food, that is how they are making money and staying in business. They aren’t really making anything off of the movie itself. So, I do like to support them but I also don’t want to pay that much. We usually bring in our own candy and then buy a big bucket of popcorn to share as a family. They usually provide extra bags or cups so you can divide it up. Plus, the popcorn is so yummy.

I can agree on most of these but I will sort of disagree on some of them. When it comes to collectibles, the problem is some people got very excited a few years ago when the prices of collectibles were soaring and then the the market corrected itself and prices dropped. Now you can still make money in collectibles but what many of these people didn't realize is it takes work to move them whether its setting up at a convention and dealing for a full weekend or listing items on ebay, it takes more work than many of these people thought it would. As far as name brand jeans I tend to think your better off paying for a better quality product that is proven to last vs a cheaper one. A solid pair of jeans from a name brand whose products have been proven to last will save you more in the long run than continuously buying cheaper jeans that just fall apart after so many months. As far as movie theaters and bringing in food, yes I have done it but you have to realize the concession's is how the theaters make money and not from the ticket sales themselves. If we want to continue to have the experience of going to the movies we need to support movie theaters by purchasing from the concession stand.

You tell people over and over of how to save money and conserve money and they just won't listen I have a friend that now lives for the last 2 years in Arizona when he was originally from New York for 20 years after that had moved to Florida because his girlfriend had health issues and there was another reason why they had to move to the desert of Arizona as of last week he's homeless and his girlfriend's been in the hospital for 3 weeks and didn't know until yesterday that if she ever leaves the hospital she has no place to live now he put her in a bad spot and she put herself in a bad spot too because speaking of storage units he was paying well almost paying for two large storage units that cost $200 a month each which meant that's $400 a month one of the units has a car and the other one has their belongings and some furniture and stuff like that bulky stuff now he had called me last week to help him to pay for 10 days of rent which turned out to be a little over $400 but because it wasn't paid by a certain day the hotel that they were staying at charge the late fee legal fees and it ended up being 649 and change and I paid that to him so he could stay there until July 3rd because as of noon time the manager was kicking him out the guy didn't care if you had a place to go or not so the moral of my story is don't go above your means when you only make a little bit of amount of money like 788 a month each with you and your girlfriend and expect to pay $408 in front every single week they're already over the amount that they owe so I have no idea how they did pay the storage facility fees because he just got a call yesterday from the storage facility saying oh I'm sorry if you can't come up with the money of 1250.00 in 48 hours everything in the storage units is going to auction and then he had the nerve to call me and ask me for the money and I said I'm sorry I don't have it and now he's allowed to stay at the hospital with his girlfriend and two dogs that they both have better emotional support animals and there's a shower in the hospital room so he gets to take a shower sleep on a chair in air conditioning and he gets her free meals that she really can't eat most of cuz she's not well and the security guard knows the story and said it's okay for him to stay there😮😮😮😮😮😮
