Wuhan has really been underrated to me... Almost all of their cymbals are almost B20, they sound incredibly and they're pretty much all under 150, even for their 19" crashes! I don't know how they do it but I'd freaking rock Wuhans all day.
Hey thanks for watching and for the comment! I am totally thinking about moving up to getting the Wuhan KOI (I think that’s what they are called) cymbals. I love these oras. They sound great and I have not even put my meinl HCS cymbals back on ever since I bought these
@@TheGhostNotePodcast I just looked up KOI... HOLY SMOKES I did not know they made a series of Cymbals like those... that is shock and am not sure why not a lot of people talk about them. As far as not going back to HCS, that's apples to oranges... HCS is actually brass.
@@brdane right 😂 I’m just saying I have a set of HCS cymbals but I have not put them back on because the wuhans oras are fine to play with even with the LOUD drum shells / snare / kick.
Great review I am a drummer that had a accoustic kit sold the kit bought a Roland electric set up sold that built a hybrid accoustic pdp kit with electric triggers Roland mesh heads and brain with Roland cymbals sold that kit and now I think you have the right idea buy a cost effective kit with the Wuhan soft cymbals. I had a wuhan China loved the sound. Sorry to have dragged out the buy and sell saga. Cheers man keep beating on the skins.
Nice informative video. I think I'll go after the Wuhans but will use the Evans DB one head on the drums. I want to quiet my set down for practicing, keep the neighbors happy but also protect my hearing as well. Thanks for your input it was helpful.
im playing evans db1 skins & cymbals with a roland spd30 & triggers. these look really good for expanding my range. the evans db1 heads sound great tho
Also, keep a couple things in mind about the test. 1) the decibel readings in the phone aren't going to be accurate. They don't put sensitive enough sensors in phones to have scientific results. But it is gonna be somewhat close as a baseline. 2) the decibel scale is logarithmic. Around a 3 dB difference isn't 30% louder, is actually +100% (about double) the sound level. 3) the biggest contributing factors to sound transfer are distance from the source and frequency. The higher the frequency, the less that sound will travel, but it will be subjectively more intense as the distance to the source decreases when compared to lower frequencies. If you don't have a ton of money to spend on quiet cymbals but aren't using triggers or recording, you can just go with whatever cheaper option you want. But you WILL be sacrificing quality, your ability to use triggers effectively in the future, and any sort of a warranty. The same thing goes for virtually any Chinesium off-brand product. Personally, I much prefer the feel and tone of my L80s to any of the others I've used including the Sabians. Plus, you're getting the quality and experience of Zildjians.
You are a pretty cool guy. I enjoyed watching your Video. You seem very real. Good job, good information. Keep on drumming. My recommendation, stick some felt on the cymbols. Then the very high frequencies are absorbed.
Great video. I can't tell you how much down the rabbit hole I've spent over the past week trying to equip my room for low volume. Just started drumming 3 months ago, got a Pearl Roadshow for $300, and remo silent strokes for $100... was able to pick up 3 L80's used for $250 but I've been debating reselling them and trying for something cheaper since I guess the sound doesn't matter since I'm new and it's all low volume anyway? Anyway appreciate the video, definitely trying to figure it out!
Hey! I’m glad I could help. Yeah since they are low volume and for practice the sound really doesn’t matter. I mean unless your super picky but the Wuhan oras actually sound great to me. I’ve also heard the super super cheap cymbals you can get on Amazon that are like a set (hihat, 2 crashes and a ride) for around $100 and they sound fairly similar. The volume of the cymbals aren’t dramatically quieter but they don’t project as far and don’t pierce through walls as well As a solid cymbal. Like with my shed door open you can hear the cymbals down the street but when I have the doors closed you can barely hear them from the street. That 10db difference is a REALLY big difference in my opinion.
@@TheGhostNotePodcast the volume comparison. Not all music stores have low volumn cymbals on display to try so it's great that you did the db test. Coincidentally, I have an original wuhan China that I bought 35 years ago (not low volumn as they hadn't invented them yet). Its a great cymbal.
@@PUBHEAD1 thank you so much for the input. Yeah I have not been in a music store in quite some time but I remember the guitar center I used to go to always had the quiet stuff set up cuz they hated how drummers come in there and make tons of noise while they are trying to answer the phones and what not lol. I think these cymbals sound great even as low volume cymbals. Wuhan been steppin up their game recently
Good for practice I suppose, but the sound is incredibly high pitched and not musical. The dB reduction is surprisingly minimal. What are these made of? Many are steel and some are brass. Very few are B8 or B20 bronze. If $$ was no object, I’d buy the B20 low volume cymbals from Agean.
I got a set of these for one of my students and I was really surprised by the sound. In my opinion they are actually good cymbals to use for gigs where you just have to play quietly. They’re much louder than Zildjian L 80s, but they feel and sound much better. So they’re not the best choice for an actual practice kit I think. I got my own set, and I am going to use the cymbals for when my students perform with a band. They normally overplay the crashes like crazy, so I think these are going to help them sound better as they gain experience performing live with a band.
I use them for my covers as well. They dont blow out the microphone I use and also dont clash too much with the audio from the original song or the sound coming from the shells and yes I totally agree they sound pretty damn good even though they are quieter.
I get all my gear through Sweetwater by financing so that’s why I chose these. I do mention there are cheaper ones elsewhere but I could not find any detailed videos on the Wuhan oras so I decided to try them out and make my own video about them.
I use these cymbals in my “killswitch engage - the end of heartache” cover. I recorded the audio with just my iPhone above my kit from the “over head” angle you see in the video.

Thank you for that! I know I’m not the ONLY one to have this problem 😅😅

Those seem pretty loud
They are quiet but they do have tone and some volume to them. Definitely not nearly as quiet as the L80s.
Millennium have cheaper low volume cymbals they’re around £110
