I loathe affirmations. Things like "I choose happiness today" can be really harmful for those with depression and other legit issues and it places the blame on them for not "trying enough" when the affirmation doesn't work. But some people love them. I will never be that person. What she's really doing is selling her workshop.

A common thread I'm noticing amongst these videos are that they are all niches the creator is interested in or someone in the creator's life is interested in. Whether that's tiny shrimp or organizing your days so that you feel you have control over life or positive affirmations, the commonality amongst all of these creators who are probably making money off of these things seems to be that they're doing what they enjoy doing. That's how you make money.

10:48 I whole-heartedly agree that this probably isn't the best way for the extra income, but I have gone down a rabbit hole of self-sustaining terrariums before and these shrimp are part of keeping the tanks clean. If you add the right plants and animals in the terrarium, including these shrimp, you'll rarely have the moldy aquariums...apparently. Like the guy at 4:55, I've never done it before but it seems to work, hahaha.

    • @jessicayates87

Yeah, I was gonna say the shrimp probably keep the tank fairly clean anyway? Its not the same as having a gold fish in a single small tank, but I am not an expert I just know a tiny amount about the subject. If its something the person enjoys and makes them $500 a month that's great! Most people have hobbies that cost them hundreds rather than make hundreds.

Adam Smith only mentions "invisible hand" once in wealth of nations, and the context he uses it in is that he says a capitalist wouldn't employer cheaper labor oversees, because of some sort of patriotism to their nation. That was his answer to the question of how capitalism wouldnt ruin a nation due to the possibility of offshoring and screing the domestic labor pool. Clearly he was wrong there. The way most people use the phrase invisible hand of the market is basically a whole cloth fabrication and historical revisionism of the works of adam smith, initially propagated by those to know most people will never actually read his work, to the point where now its basically a common memetic that goes unquestioned.

I'm so glad that older guys like u are on the internet debunking and destroying these urban legends that these younger influencers keep putting out there to mess up ppls money. These idiots think they know everything and wanna fool ppl into following these stupid moves because they put so much hype around it. The "new money" today are having a gold rush. They're getting high on the little bit of money that's been coming their way, thru the rise of online marketing schemes. That's why Tik Tok is so detrimental cuz anybody can just make up anything and little kids will take it as real news and facts, like my son!
