- Filmed on August 11, 2017: I was in Canada last month for a vacation and I was really looking for on seeing this piece of beauty up in the penthouse at the Crowne Plaza Hotel in Niagara Falls, ON. But something has gone wrong when I got up there. IT GOT MODERNIZED!😭😭😭😭😭 I did not even discover this being modded already!!! According to the hotel employee who just exited the penthouse elevator, this was modernized this past May.
Main Elevators: Installed in 1929, modernized in the 50's or 60's and again in 2009.
Penthouse Elevator: Installed in 1948, modernized in 2017.

The old elevators were better than the modded ones! I remember those when I first rode those elevators... It was great! But now it's modernized?! You're not happy about that... So do I.

looks like a Crappy Dewhurst or Schindler mod... they prob thought we modernize the elevator and it'll be more reliable..

At first when I saw the interior, I almost thought it was a KONE KSS 140 mod even though that’s not probable. This is a dewhurst mod apparently.
The reason they modded this beauty Beacuse some people are complaining about the design and the inside of the cab.

No, it’s not stuck. I wanted to see the old version as well, but it’s already too late. This is indeed modernized, which means the old elevator is gone permanently.

Jennifer Wells this was actually probably modded by a small Canadian elevator company named Delta. Delta usually has curves on their COP Panels and Call Panels and use that chime. Definitely a Delta mod. Delta modernizes A LOT of elevators is Toronto and a lot of Southern Ontario. Easily the most common mods up here are done by them.

While modernizations are upsetting to see, unfortunately it is usually done for a reason. Either the elevator breaks down too much, the parts for it are either too expensive or hard to find, or they just want to change it to make the experience in the building better.
Now don’t get me wrong, I don’t like mods either. Thinking about the M2 slap on mod on the Hobby airport elevators makes me sick to my stomach. But despite all of these modernizations in the 2010s and 2020s, there could always be a vintage elevator out there somewhere. While I was in San Antonio last month, I knew the city was known for modding all of their elevators, and it was quite a surprise when I found a vintage Otis with GAL fixtures that I am pretty sure the building never laid a finger on. It had an very old cab that has never been redone and it ran so smoothly for its age without being a bit redone. All the buttons lit up, it had a nice quick smooth door operator and a sweet sounding motor. Only problem with it was that some of its bulbs on the floor indicator were burnt out but if they replace it, it would be in brand new condition.
I forgot to mention I would’ve liked the mods on the hou elevators if they would’ve added the Gen2 voice. I grew up with that voice at every hotel I stayed at back then lol

KONE has been grounded for 2 years after replacing the elevators at Roosevelt Field, and have now been grounded forever for life since replacing the Chateau Frontenac Elevators, and now Dewhurst is grounded with KONE in their bedroom......LOL

The main elevators are nice. But that penthouse elevator mod is probably the saddest excuse of any elevator mod that I've ever seen.
This is by far the worst elevator mod I've ever seen! If they wanted to change out the buttons, they should've at least renovated the cab too because the combination of a generic modern panel with a retro cab looks like absolute garbage.

I'm just so speechless when Mattyice0812 told me that right after I went into the Crowne Plaza. If he told me before I went in there that they have no plans modernizing the elevator, and I find out that it is gone already, this would've been much more worse!

What an atrocity! Easily the worst mod of the year right here! Thankfully, I got to film it last October. These elevators were installed in 1929, modded circa 1948 with the black buttons, then this abomination!
