How to make a LED Floating Shelf

- Basement Dry Bar Part 2
In this video I finish up the dry bar build with a floating shelf and accent wall. The shelf has down LEDs similar to under cabinet lights and up LEDs for bottle display, hardwired with everything hidden behind the accent wall. The LEDs are powered by a 3 amp wall brick and run by an Arduino UNO. If you don't want to mess with learning how to code an Adruino, you can still build something like this! Check the links below for the LED options that come with remotes and are more plug and play. My woodworking skills are average at best and my tools are below average, if I can do this, so can you!

Brad, if you ever read this, let me know. It's a great honor.
your narration and editing is on point , keep it up
Thanks Trevor
Looks great A.D.!
Thank you!
Very detailed instructions, worth sharing!
Thanks Muzata!
Great video, niceeeee info and build...💪🏾💪🏾💪🏾💪🏾💪🏾💪🏾💪🏾
Thanks CSC!
Finally someone on damn RUclips that I can relate to! Lol. I don't have a fancy ass shop either. I have to set up everything on the floor too like you did with the Mitor Saw lol
No-shop DIYers!
I lower the table saw blade all the way down, then put a piece of OSB (plywood would work) on top. Then I set my miter-box saw on top. That way you don’t have to be down on the ground.
While at the local big box hardware store, I found “pre stain,” it helps pretreat pine and other soft woods. It definitely made a big difference in the way the pine stained up! I usually use a folded up paper towel to apply stain and remove.
It’s what the cabinet shop did that I worked in about 18 years ago.
Looks good man
Thank you sir!
It is refreshing to see a man with an idea and somewhat of a plan and very little skill and experience doing these projects. That is not a put down by any means. It's good to see mistakes and how to overcome them and more importantly how to handle them maturely without throwing a fit. I often wonder if these professionals that create amazing projects w/o any problem at all while floating around on a cloud expected their comment section to be packed full of "uh-oh what do I do now" questions. Making it look it easy aint helping anyone.
Maybe incorporate a little pow wow section in these vids and talk about real stuff for a few minutes. Maybe add a sidekick to belittle idk but THANK YOU FOR NOT ADDING "MUSIC"
Mr. Wilson, thanks for the comment. Glad that resonated with you, that's the idea behind the channel, what someone without a bunch of experience, really fancy tools, or a really big shop can accomplish.
Dope!!!
Thank you sir!
Poor Nick Cage got the boot. Great video!
A tragedy no doubt. Thanks!
I’m no better with my woodworking, but I used minwax conditioner before staining & that made a difference in the appearance of the stain.😊
Good to know! Obviously haven’t stained much ha
👍👍

What diffuser panel did you use for the top lights.
24” x 36” acrylic sheet from Menards
At 9:23 you apply a paste to the soldered bit - I take it that's glue? Isn't that a hazard if it heats up?
Hey Thomas, good question. It was a silicone adhesive which typically have a working temp up to 300 or 400F so shouldn’t be an issue
How thick can a shelf be and no longer look like it's "floating"? I think 2 inches tops. Otherwise we can assume there are internal brackets. It is a nice looking shelf, though.
Hey Wilhelm, ya the look does imply an internal bracket but the float does still appear to float when briefly looking at it. It seems like most people use floating nomenclature for up to 3 or 4" if the support is internal
was hyped to make this until i realized i have none of these carpentry tools...then i looked at the price of the tools....lol noooooo
Hey Jungle, you could get by without using the router or nail gun by doing things a little different. Also friends or neighbors may have tools you could use!
