This is a very helpful video, thank you! A quick question: Can you do something similar with monoblocks? If so, how could I go about doing that? Any help would be hugely appreciated 🙂
Hey there John, im so glad i found this Video. It makes perfect sense now! I just bought my T/7X (my very first Sub) and as i'm a music producer i just have one small Amp (Bryston 2B) and as i use Amphion One 18 Speakers, i dont listen really loud (therefore also my choice of the T7X). As i was confused on how to connect the Sub i wrote to Thomann the Music store before and the told me i should connect my Amp to the Sub and then Back to the Speakers, which is not possible with the T*X Subs so i was really confused how to do it. I thought i need to buy another Amp and connect this to the Sub but then how do i connect the out to the Sub and the AMP, Y-Split cable ?? etc etc but this Video man, the solution is so simple and easy that i would never thought of this. So thanks again you saved my day (and the money for another Amp :)
Thank you for supporting REL, and we are glad that this video helped to answer your questions about connecting the High Level cable for the T/7x! As the video shows, both the High Level cable for your T/7x and your main speaker wire will be connected together to the output terminals on your system's main power amplifier.
i want to comment that I have a REL Serie R 218. I believe it's almost entry level back in 2012 but now 12 years later i'm still using it and it is farkin awesome.
Thank you for reaching out. The High Level input on our subwoofers uses a high input impedance (150,000 ohms), which allows it to connect to the main speaker output terminals on your amplifier without placing any current load on the amp. This means that if your main loudspeakers have a nominal impedance of 8 ohm, then the amp's output stage loading will remain at roughly 8 ohm after connecting the REL's High Level cable.

Is there any easy way to do this with a pair of monoblock amps that are spaced a little ways apart? They’re not differential amps. Do I just have to deal with removing more sheathing from the cable and run longer bare wire across from one to the other?
Thank you for reaching out. Are you planning on using a single subwoofer in this system, or a stereo pair of subwoofers? Also, what specific model of monoblocks are you running? This information will help to provide accurate connection instructions.
Thank you for reaching out. With a single subwoofer setup, we recommend connecting the High Level cable to the output terminals on the amplifier itself, rather than connecting to the binding posts on your main loudspeakers. Connecting to the amplifier's output terminals will allow you to more easily connect the cable to both the left channel and right channel outputs.

@@RELAcoustics Thank you for this, however this video does not agree with your T/x series manual, which states to leave the ground floating for differential or class D monoblocks.
@@jon4715 Thank you for your response. When connecting High Level to differential or Class D amplifiers you can start by leaving the black wire completely disconnected, though if you experience any hum from the subwoofer then we recommend connecting the black wire to a chassis screw or designated ground screw. Typically it is best to connect the black wire to a grounding point by default to prevent a ground hum from occurring from the start.
Hi. Does this affect the impedance of the left and right speaker? Do I load my mission towers on same terminals pls? I do have 4 independent subwoofer phono inputs for 4 subs but this sounds like I’ll get the best from the rel s 812 sub I’m looking to buy.
Thank you for reaching out. The High Level input for our subwoofers is designed so that it will place no current load on the amplifier, and will not draw any amplifier power away from your main loudspeakers. The main loudspeakers and amplifier will essentially perform as if there is no subwoofer connected, with the REL then drawing a small amount of voltage to then feed it's own filters and amplifier.
Would it be ok to connect the high level of the rel subs at the speker post rather than the amplifier’s posts, since the subs are being placed next to the speakers. Thanks.
In some cases it is possible to connect the High Level cable to the binding posts on your main loudspeakers. For more information and for High Level connection instructions specific to your system, feel free to write in to contactus@rel.net and our team will be happy to assist.
I've been running both high-level and .1 LFE's on my stereo pair of T5i's, and after disconnecting the high-level connections to do some .1 LFE speaker levelling, I realised only one of the subwoofers was working! Which told me both subwoofer inputs are probably running parallel, meaning that both running the same way. Perhaps when finances become available the Rel 3D HT will be for the near future. Therefore in the meantime I was wondering would be beneficial for my particular 5.2.4 setup to implement a Y-Splitter ? Any advice would be appreciated! Cheers
Thank you for reaching out. If you have found that one of the subwoofer outputs on you AVR is not functioning correctly, then you could use an RCA y-cable so that both of your T/5is receive signal from the same functional subwoofer output on the receiver.

Or is it maybe better to go wireless on a stere side, for example from one of my Rose RS-150B streamer outputs through your transmitter (not sure which model)? Which sollution would be beneficial from audiophile point of view?
Thank you for reaching out. The Classic 99 is designed so that you can connect to both it's High Level input and the .1/LFE input at the same time, meaning that you can connect High Level to your stereo tube amplifier and simultaneously connect using the .1/LFE input to the sub-out on your Marantz Cinema 60. Each of these input channels have their own independent Level control so that they can be tuned separately, and it will not be necessary to disconnect or reconnect any cables when switching between these two applications.

@@paulk9534 With the Serie HT subwoofer models, you will only need a standard RCA cable to connect it to your preamp or AV receiver. If your preamp/receiver has a single subwoofer output jack, then you will only need one RCA cable. If it is a 2-channel preamp and only has stereo (left and right channel) output, then a pair of RCA cables can be used.
Thank you for reaching out. When connecting a REL subwoofer using it's High Level input, it will be necessary to set the corresponding main speaker channels to "large" or "full-range" within your processor or preamp, so that no crossover is applied to their signal. In our experience this will not only result in improved performance from your main loudspeakers, but will also allow you to achieve the full performance improvement that the High Level connection provides. If you would prefer to apply a crossover to the signal received by your main loudspeakers, then we recommend instead connecting the subwoofer using it's .1/LFE input to the subwoofer output jack on your processor. This will allow the subwoofer to receive all signal below the receiver's set Crossover value, and will give the receiver full control over the frequency response of the subwoofer and your system as a whole.
At this time we do not have any plans on incorporating app control to our subwoofers, in large part because the DSP required for app remote functionality adds delay and latency to the subwoofer's performance, which leads to a less optimal blend with the system's main loudspeakers.
