- This is a special feature on the Mercedes Benz W124
The W124 was unveiled in 1984 and sold until 1996. As the successor to the iconic W123, it had great shoes to fill. During this time, cars had a longer shelf life and as such, engineers could push the boundaries since they were not hampered as much by time or budgetary constraints. Hence, the W124 is considered to be over engineered and arguably one of the best automobiles ever made.
Planning and development for the W124 began in the late 70s, but despite that being 40 years ago, this car pioneered equipment and tech still being used in cars today such as the SRS airbag and multi-link suspension. The W124 has a drag coefficient of 0.26 which still makes it one of the most aerodynamic sedans to date.

This is the most perfect review I’ve ever seen, great host. Can see the passion and he doesn’t ramble.
the W124 will always be a beautiful car
Words of wisdom in this review, so accurate. Have had my '89 300CE for 22 years.
This guy is excellent with his imagination and command of language. Well done!
I purchased a new W124 in 1986 in Australia. It was a solid, well built vehicle built to last. I now regret selling it in 2017 with 185K on the clock. Everything about it was excellent - great for city driving & cruising in the country. Very comfortable & reliable. Truly earnt it’s reputation as over engineered in comparison to other vehicles.
I hope you find another gem just like it.
Well done Sir. .. Enjoyable to watch. .. Singing to the crowd; '94 C124 Coupe (E-320) parked in the garage.
I just purchased a 1987 W124 300e in Artic White. I have a few things on the list to attend to but the black MB Tex interior is almost perfect, no dash cracks, and no engine leaks with only 121,000km!!! I am in love.
Congratulations on your purchase. You definitely have a keeper there.
You will soon face the infamous and 100% predictable need for a valve job requiring new stems and seals.
When a W124 reaches 100K miles (or mother time alone) the seals wear out (or dry out).
I found it difficult to find any shop who would do a valve job on older Mercedes; I had to have it towed to San Diego.
Get your wallet ready which might challenge your love.
I just bought one! 35 y old
I love it😊 You still have the German license plates 😂 cool!!!
Great review🤘
I have 1985 first production W124, still running and good condition. This is best car in the world.
Mine is an S124 250D from 1991. I have it since 10 years. My 1st Mercedes.
Befitting tribute to w124.
Master piece of automobile engineering by none else but prestigious Mercedes Benz
My friend.
I have one at 444k miles and you just nailed it what these works of engineering art are....very good review and delivery. Thank you!!
I think this is the best Mercedes Benz of all time. I have a W123 ('76) and a W124 ('93). Both great cars but the W124 is simply amazing.
still loving my 1987 300e... nothing like it - excellent review !
The wheel tilt mechanism is phenomenal
mine still alive .1991 300 d 2.5 turbo diesel 108.000 miles.thank you for the review.
Great car. Definitely one for keeps.
Keep it well and alive
Im now since half a year proud owner of 260E with 136 000 km´s only. I think we´ll go along maaaaany years. My 124 even got working AC and i found new leather steering wheel and gear knob for her...and for me:) Well done video, this.
great host bro, i love this car
This is very well researched and well written as always. This made me miss my w124
Thanks bro. W124 is ♥️
@jaywalkur hopefully when japanese cars get expensive from demand German cars will finally be cheap in this country
One of the best auto journalist 👌 with the best car ever made by Mercedes Benz.
Great video, you really explain the feeling very well. Really cool! Thanks!
More retro episodes please. this is great
Beautifuly done 👌🏾
Good video my friend, I enjoyed it! Thanks! :)
Update...mine now at 475,000 miles...superb and smooth
This is a beautiful car
Well done!!...
Bought my first one a week ago, and I couldent be more satisfied!
My previous cars been citroen, peugeot, volvo... But since i got this i realize that the MB w124 is my first real "car".. my girlfriend wasent happy about it, and in that moment i knew.. this is the car for me.
I have a 1990 MB 300E with 185K miles and looks brand new = it has been maintained to perfection.
I just put $5K into for a valve job (notorious for this need), motor mounts, transmission mount, and misc.
I paid $2.5K for it in 2013 and over the years I put ~$12K total into it = $ well spent for a classic, beautiful car!
Ouch. Sounds like a lot of money you have invested. I have a 95 Cabriolet with 70k miles. Haven't spent anything since purchased five years ago, but I don't drive it much. It sure is very comfortable with a nice ride and VERY solid feel. I doubt a current MB will hold up like these.
Beautiful
Such a good review!
Beautiful car. 👍
Love the vid and love the car as well
That means a lot coming from a Merc expert. Thanks man.
My 260E odometer stopped working 10 years ago at 640k, it should be over 1m by now. Young guys get into the car looking for an electronic glass winder
Classic!
Love those wheels
The W124 series was the last of the Mercedes cars with a typical Daimler Benz styling, unlike the current models, which could wear any badge. They can easily be mistaken for a car made somewhere in Asia.
Feeling nostalgic.. we used to owned W123 300d and W123 300e. German Tank.
I owned a 1991 300E. The car was built incredibly well. BUT at the end of the year, there was a stack of maintenance bills that always added up to several thousand dollars. I got rid of it just to get away from it draining my wallet
Can AIRCON be fitted retrospectively to a W124, 1992, 280E?
M103 E26 and E30 is so hard gasoline engine with 12 valves my first W124 was sedan from 1986 300E automatic 4 gear 188 hp not catalys version was very good car base sedan from the 80s
I got one an dit is the greatest car and had soul unlike Lexus cars
Here in Morocco, we used handereds of them as Taxis , but unfortunately all versions are Diesel . I ve never been a passenger of an E version just to experience the difference .
The diesel variant was the greatest car because the gas didn't get very good fuel mileage and you had to use premium
The fucking music💀
I have a car like this however its the 230E variation but the bumper is messed up. I'm actually trying to find a shop where they'd be able to sell a stock front bumper and its pretty scarce😂. I sure hope you'd be able to help me find a shop. Best Wishes and Ride safely🙏
Sorry, I'm not aware of any shops. Your best bet might be the second hand market online.
I just checked and there are some units for part out on marketplace.
Wow aabangan ko to.
Idol anong masasabi mo sa W124 230E?
Panalo ride and timeless pa design, bro.
Manual or AT .which is better ?
Manual have 5 speed. The AT are only 4
oh 124 likes
i can't be that guy then
Never really saw much benefit in dropping rear head restraints (not rests !) especially if can't raise again at touch of button.
The W123's daughter
Price
Great car but not the greatest. That honour goes to the W123
Change the steering shock on the car and it will steer razor-sharp. It's a cheap part and a child can change it. Only two bolts.
Sir may modern equivalent ba ng w124?
Yes Sir, the E-class.
