It’s a damn shame John Lydon and Bill Hicks never sat down to chop it up about how shitty the corporate fascist state is and jam to some great music….one day
5:22 - Phil's early 80s drumming indeed resemble Martin's on FOR. (e.g. Frida's "I Know there's Something Going On") Yet, it should be noted Phil was drumming professionally when Martin, Lydon were still in primary school.
Bollocks , everybody knows the gated drumsound came from XTC at the stone acoustic room at townhouse studio in '79 then Gabriel took it , then Collins and the rest including rotten bunch followed

Such political insight.......where a dilettante third grader could come up with......he seems quite hesitant at times here, searching for one liners to surprise us with......anyway, when was "common sense" *not* "thrown out the window" ? Not to deny he's a remarkable character , blessed with the same failings as the rest of us.......At least John has admitted his ambition was "to become a multi miljonair".....how's _that_ for anti establishment ?.....
Why is becoming a millionaire being part of the establishment? Surely, making money from what ever background you have come from is part of free enterprise? You don’t have to accept a title or be admitted into a elite group. If you think that remaining poor is some how anti establishment then I would advise you to carefully think about what ‘the establishment’ is. The establishment, ruling classes, seek only to keep the free man down and under the spell of a class structure and to know your place. It’s not honourable to be poor financially - it’s what you do with that wealth.
@@MSCLTD You're right there ofcourse..,I was a bit flippant. But John has somewhat made a career of going against the grain , or being anti establishment. There's nothing cool about being poor. But "multi millionaire" or rich even , seems unnecessary . We all can count ourselves lucky if we have a reasonably comfortable existence. Especially when the other half of this planet is scraping by .
@@PAULLONDEN I get the sentiment but what does having money and being anti establishment have to do with each other? There is a world of difference between upper class families that are 'gifted' assets and opportunities, just because they are born into a certain blood line & someone who works and makes a lot of money through their talents. I would understand you more if you were perhaps to say you are a communist or maybe a hard socialist? Otherwise, you must understand that anyone has the potential to make money - lots of it - if they want to. We could discuss whether that changes someones approach, a sell out or no longer produces their own material or product but I don't think that covers lydon - He seems to have followed his own path and never bowed down to the big industry or held his punches. Perhaps it would be better to see his story as a good influence and that he is proof that you don't have to be born lucky, rather than in a very mild but tainted with bitterness view? We all need out heroes or something to aspire to after all, despite what rotten said "Heroes, I ain't got any heroes!".
That was the perceptions too in those days. I was at that festival. The punks were constantly throwing clods at him which made him furious. But I kinda like him nowadays.
@@XX-pq9mb I still have the memory of this kid who had struck him in the face, and had been invited on stage for a kiss on the mouth before being ejected in the first ranks by John 😆
The interview is recorded at Seaside festival, Veurne on August 2nd 1986 for RTB Rox Box program.
Thank You.
With McGeogh standing in the back, it's like John Lydon was making a statement: 'haha! He's all mine!!!'.
RIP John McGeoch
John McGeoch was such a genius.
4:25 Aww 💕 5:40 AMAZING POINT, and John is such a respectful and down to earth person.

My very first festival, a crazy line-up!
Love you John !♥️
quel bohneur de voir John Mac Geoch a cote de Johnny!vraiment super!!!
Phil Collins drummed on the Peter Gabriel track Intruder released early 1980 BEFORE Flowers of Romance recorded late 1980 out 1981.
That's what I thought : It seemed to me that it was Lydon who was inspired by Melt when recording Flowers of Romance.
I WAS THERE!!!
🤜🤛

Sad self-effacement from John (McGeoch) there. He seemed insulted, for good reason.
What do you mean? (I thought he looked bored/unconvinced by Rotten's chat)
That’s what happens when you interview people with meningitis
Lydon is such a poser... he doesn't like anyone else talking does he!?
Well, they’re asking him, and if you ask me, he’s keeping McGeoch from having to deal with idiots.
The Common Sense Party...sounds great, sign me up.
Ah la vache, la traduction tronquée...
Who gave this a thumb down. Shoom to you

John should be the head of United Nations. A new word order. Of Peace. Public Image and Love???
Lol you clearly don’t know what the UN really is. It’s ok.
