- Locks & Quays Series 3 - Coast to Coast. Matthew Corbett travels from Hull to Liverpool on rivers and the famous Leeds and Liverpool Canal. Originally broadcast on ITV in 2008 (not all regions). This is a VHS transfer so is not perfect but it was never released on video or DVD and I am yet to locate a better copy. It is edited to remove the ad breaks/intros/welcome back etc and some of the misc features not relevant to where he is travelling. This is to attempt to give it a single travel film feel, rather than 10 individual episodes with random bits thrown in. Part 2 covers the Lancashire leg of the journey (Eps 6-10). Enjoy
That was an excellent presentation on the history of canal narrow boating I really enjoyed the details you gave thank you very much.
Spotted the row of houses at Ring o' Bells where I was brought up - my father having worked on the canal before transferring as a Lighterman on the river Mersey. I was born in my Grandfather's house at Ring O' Bells and he was one of the last to born on a barge at Haskayne near Liverpool, his birth being registered at the L & L Offices in Liverpool!
WHAT A FANTASTIC JOURNEY FROM EAST TO WEST ALONG THE CANAL WITH FANTASTIC HISTORY AND BUILDINGS AND SCENERY....
And thank you especially for the wonderful musical selection.
Watched both episodes today - SO enjoyable! Thank you.
15:21 - that is one of the most amazing pictures!!!
What a legend he is
Great vid, what a wonderful country we live in.
Excellent loved the music as well... Cheers.
Sooty meets Rosie and Jim, sort of ;)
Wonderful journey 🌺🍀🍀
This is a lovely and very informative video! I enjoyed everything about it, including the music.
Exactly what I was going to say.👍

I didn't know about Botany Bay in uk, as Im in Sydney. Thanks Andy
Amazing!! ty so much!
Stereotyped as the sooty and sweep guy but does serious presenting so well
Matthew, I'm from Guiseley I knew your Dad quite well
1:18:35 bear overboard! seriously though, MC has a talent for documentaries. shame he did not do more.
fantastic video
very interesting video. as a relation of the manage/length man ( Frank Beck) based at Finsley Gate yard where boats were built & launched broad side. this was at the western end of the mile. Other members were lock keepers at Bingley
This was a fantastic program. I know the Leeds Liverpool Canal from Rufford Branch to Tarlton and Hesketh Bank and Burscough Bridge, and at Parbold and Gathurst, where it passed under the M6. I was surprised he didn't mention Wigan Pier.
When going through Burnley you missed out the BOAT YARD at FINSLEY GATE Where the boats were built
Reg Lawson sounds so St Helens.
Bridge water canal near Leigh.
John
The Bridgewater canal is in Worsley in Lancashire, not in Leeds as stated. Thanks really enjoyed your videos.
The Guy said Leigh not Leeds.
Piss-poor editing of a pirated VHS tape.
I agree. Made unwatchable by the loud 'music' drowning out the narration.
Thanks nevertheless!
Pirated 🤣it clearly says in the description it was recorded from the TV on VHS and transferred so is not perfect. This series was only shown in some ITV regions once in 2007 and never released on video or DVD, if you know of a better copy please let us all know instead of moaning🙂 Well done to the guy for editing it and getting it up on here, as there is not any other way anyone can see it !!
Love the user name haha
