A good deal of British sailors working in the Caribbean during the 1700s came from the West Country (and many of the more famous pirate captains were middle class people brought up in cities like Bristol) which is why the stereotypical pirates' accent is just an exaggerated Cornish/Devon/Dorset/Somerset accent

Adam Sandler may be in a ton of bad movies, but I can't see how anyone would dislike him. He's like the only movie star that doesn't conform to the expectations that people have for celebrities, hell, I once seen him on a talk show where he wore basketball shorts and a baggy shirt with a stain on it, he's just a normal guy that made it by being funny for a while. I find it hard not to like him, and there are definitely good movies he's starred in. He's also been shown to be a genuinely good guy.
