    At some point I thought the director brought real apes in the production. The cgi was phenomenal especially on Maurice.

    I kinda think Jeremy missed something really important about Woody Harrelson fate and suicide... He didn't killed him self because of his fate. He killed him self because of the realisation that, same as him now, his son was still a rational human being capable of thinking.. and he shot him in cold blood. Its the sadnes that killed him... he was dead long before he put a gun to his face

    • @pauline9970

    • @Alex_Logan22

      I think he was just super committed to his beliefs even if the virus got to him, he had made the choice to kill himself a long time ago if it ever got to him. Kill anybody. Even if he still has his intellect he would assume he's going to lose it soon. I don't know you may be right but that's what I took from it, that he's a man who stands by his belief even when it's his life.

    • @MarinDomjanovic
      @MarinDomjanovic 7 лет назад +107

      there were clues to his current state of mind: his sons picture on the table "floating in alcohol", him grasping for the bottle and the gun was still in its holster. In "movie visuals" that woud mean he wants to forget what happened to his son more than just actually kill himself. The tipping point was realisation that Ceaser is right... he really has no mercy

    I feel really bad for Cornelius losing his entire family...Rocket and Maurice will probably be able to get over Caesar's death, being adults and knowing he died for a noble cause. But Cornelius has only just reunited with his father, his only surviving family member, right before he dies as well...

      Cammoe2011 I'm pretty sure Nova is going to become the character we see in Planet of the Apes so it's not really a nod. Cornelius on the other hand will probably grow up to be the leader of the Apes which is way different than the original Cornelius so I guess that is more of a nod.

      This may be blasphemous... this trilogy is better than LOTR. LOTR has very diminished stakes which is very much not a problem in the apes movies. The apes movies also resonate thematically better and bring up so many fascinating ethical dillemas. Seriously, watch them all in a row and your heart will be messed with in a way LOTR doesn't come close to

    • @ihateu890
      @ihateu890 7 лет назад +4

      As much as I love the series as a whole, it is far from "flawless," the way the franchise treated the human characters in the first film nearly ruined the film for me - they were barely developed and James Franco was so wooden in his performance and just completely forgettable. Same with the human characters in Dawn, they were barely well-developed.

    • @TheGeorgeD13
      @TheGeorgeD13 7 лет назад +10

      ihateu890, couldn't disagree with you more. The human characters without exception are pretty great and extremely well developed.

    • @ihateu890
      @ihateu890 7 лет назад +7

      Yea sorry, can't agree with you. I didn't give a shit about any of the human characters in the first film, the only character in that film that I cared about was Caesar. That to me was a fundamental flaw in the first film. Things slightly improved in the way the human characters were treated in Dawn, but again, I found myself caring less about the humans and more about Caesar and the apes. At least with War we hardly had any human characters, they made a good choice by just focusing on the apes for a majority of the movie (and that is why War is my favorite film of the three).

      FASTER! marvel hasn't, DC kind of has.

    • @coolvids841
      @coolvids841 6 лет назад

      FASTER! You do realize that Iron Man isn't practical, right? They built a practical suit but it made it hard for RDJ to act and they just ended up doing mocap for the rest of the films. There was a portion of a BTS reel (or maybe it was an ILM documentary, I can't remember) that had Jon Favreau telling a story about how he thought he was giving corrections on reflections and lighting in the CG suit and it turned out he was commenting on the real suit. The sad thing about CG is that you only notice it if it's bad. Go look at the Logan VFX reel or any of the VFX reels for Fincher's films. CGI has come a long way but just like everything else, it's not always perfect.

    • @coolvids841
      @coolvids841 6 лет назад

      FASTER! A little bit I really think it's the reliance on CG on its own that makes it seem less realistic. When paired with practical effects I think it can be seamless but right now it's not financially practical. I will admit, the CGI in recent films may seem to be a little bit lacking but when I look at characters like Rocket and then the entire battle that happened at the airport in Civil War, I begin to question how much of what I thought was real actually wasn't. I think the big spectacle scenes seem to be lacking but I feel like that's simply symptomatic of what I mentioned earlier which is an over reliance on CG. I don't think it's that the CGI is horrible, I just think that we are so used to it going unnoticed that we complain at the first sight of inaccuracy. Now that doesn't necessarily mean we shouldn't critique as that simply breeds complacency where improvement can be had, but I ultimately am fine with portions of CG that are good but not great so long as it allows a director to better realize their vision. So CG might look meh in some cases but so long as it is tolerable, I can roll with it for the sake of escapism.

    The most powerful scene in the movie (in my opinion) is when the little girl comes by and gives Caesar water. The other apes across is telling the little girl to give him food and from that one ape that showed the sign, "Apes Together Strong", leading to the rest of the apes doing so as well. Finally the little girl right in front of Caesar's eyes does the sign too. Very touching moment. Love this movie, one of the best trilogies out there. Thank you for creating Caesar to be one of the best characters out there.

      sivad parks dude, it's not nearly as good as the dark knight trilogy and Not even in the same league as Lord of the Rings

    • @sivad1025
      @sivad1025 7 лет назад +31

      I love both of those. The Dark Knight movies has some plot holes (particularly rises) and some poorly filmed action (particularly begins). No one apes movie is better than The Dark Knight, but all three are equally solid and cohesive, perfectly blending into one story. LOTR is harder to argue but I personally am not really a fan of Return of the King. There aren't any stakes (no one freaking dies) and the battles became really cartoony. And that movie feels its length. The apes movies are slow but they are absolutely gripping. LOTR has some slow moments that aren't nearly as gripping or as intense.
      Also, it's fine if you think that. These are all great trilogies so I'm cool having a different opinions on it.

    Just came out of this film and I have to say; it was amazing.
    I've been a fan of this series ever since the first reboot (Rise), and I'm more than thrilled that the films haven't dipped in quality, but have actually gotten better.
    The CGI and motion capture was, and continues to be the gold standard in film-making, bar none.
    War for the Planet of the Apes perfectly encapsulates what the *entire* series is about, and the nods to the originals are there for the really old-school fans as well.

      Army1601 exactly what I was thinking. The way I see it. It shows different aspects of war. Not just big epic battles, which we do get at the beginning and end, but also the struggles that come with it. The lengths this band of human soldiers went through was full Nazism and in any other situation would have been a full blown war crime. The POW side with the apes, Caesar and the Colonel's internal struggles, the battles big and small, the consequences of war, and just the overall tone and situations Caesar's apes and the humans find themselves in. All of this plays its part in determining the fate of the planet, not just the big ending battle with a bunch of explosions (though that was awesome).

    ok, so when they were talking about how the virus was making people less intelligent did you think "wait a minute Woody, are you sure it's not just making it so people can't speak, and not hurting intelligence? because this little girl legit learned sign language in at most a few weeks and is generally pretty normal given the circumstances." like what if the other people were just freaked out they couldn't talk suddenly, so they were a bit off and stressed? it's not like they gave them time to adjust or get used to lacking the key linguistic skill they'd become accustomed to in their life. I saw the movie with my Dad and Brother, and that was what we took from it, that the Colonel didn't fully understand the virus and hadn't truly understood what some scientists had told him. and in the end when he can't speak he realizes he killed his son because he couldn't speak, but his son was still fully aware and cognizant, he's racked with guilt and can't bear the shame and regret, so he kills himself. it's poetic and tragic and adds depth to a relatively flat character and makes sense of why Nova's still intelligent, especially for a child.

      It does make me wonder though if the virus will cause individuals to become less intelligent as it remains in the host body after a few years.

      maybe, but then that's inconsistent within the movie. I tend to take what movie characters say with a grain of salt, especially when non-scientist characters say their own opinions that aren't backed up by research as fact. like the characters might not understand it either. either of these are possible explanations, Nova just seemed very intelligent for a child for a virus to be making her stupid.

      BGLNZ it was a well shot movie but in my opinion the story was really lackluster. The movie was so long, and they played the Schindler’s list card a bit too much. The only emotion I felt was the first scene where the son and Mom were killed. The rest of the movie and especially the dialogue had me half asleep.

    Came back from watching War for the Planet of the Apes and this I have to say was the best out of the series now. The themes this film had were just amazing. The acting especially from Andy Serkis is the reason to watch this film. I think the academy should have a category for best performance capture as a category. Seriously Andy Serkis deserves an award and I feel it's long overdue. This series really pushes the envelope in Performance Capture which in my opinion is a derivative of Method Acting. The quality of storytelling is just perfect in this film and Matt Reeves did a phenomenal job. I feel if Transformers gets rebooted Matt Reeves should take on the franchise. What makes this film so amazing is you see it from the Apes point of view from the beginning to the end and the interactions between Casear-Maurice, Caesar-Rocket, Caesar-Bad Ape, Caesar-Lake etc, are some of the highlights of this film. Just seeing all the apes interacting with one another throughout the whole film is incredible to watch and Transformers needs that.The use of sign language with the Apes was integral as well and seeing how they communicate was captured perfectly. Caesar making sure that he will take his kind to the Promise Land was always a goal that he wanted to achieve because it had that theme of Braveheart, like Wallace Caesar wanted to make sure Apes will get their freedom. Overall this movie is worth watching and I hope a fourth one gets made

    I think people are missing Woody's plan for the wall. Caesar was telling him that the wall would be pointless as it wouldn't keep the army guys with helicopters and missiles out. That wasn't his plan. His idea would be to get the army close to their base (like they did at the end) and then they would trigger the avalanche (which happened). The wall was going to protect the guys in the base while it wiped out the army guys outside it. It was actually a pretty awesome plan if the monkeys hadn't fucked it all up for them.

    Just saw this movie . I really enjoyed it. The printed prologue detailing RISE AND DAWN was a great at giving viewers a review course, without endless exposition clogging the film. I do consider this a war movie. Wars aren't like WW2 anymore, they are rougher, more scattered , and pardon the awful pun, often done in a gorilla-fighting style. The ending was sad, but felt honest. I really hope that if more movies are made in this universe, they do not go the bat-s**t crazy Heston route.

    I think that you - and several others - may be missing the point of the title. This ultimately is a war story, but isn't *just* about the battle between Man and Ape; it's about the horrors of war, the justification that people have for engaging in it, and how it affects and changes others. It may not be high on action, but with all of its themes and parallels to actual war, I can safely say that this is one of the most authentic war stories that I have ever seen.

    • @houndofculann1793
      @houndofculann1793 5 лет назад

      All this can also be argued for why the title could have been better. While you are correct and as a solo movie title I think it would be alright, but as part of a trilogy of Rise, Dawn, War, and since the trailers also painted the movie as more action-packed, the title ended up very misleading to a lot of people. I think it's one of the biggest reasons for so many people thinking this is a bad movie, as it was something entirely different that they were expecting.

    This movie was beautiful. Caesar and the Woody Harelson were so intense. And I especially loved how it answers why people turned feral later as we see in the original movie. I thought this one was the most beautifully directed, acted, and shot film of the trilogy, but it was the most boring of the trilogy as well... Don't get me wrong, it was great, but not as fun as the others for me personally, especially for a movie with 'War' in the title! I felt that the audience was earning a great big action sequence towards the end by getting through such long winded, albeit rich character development. Not much action in the film, but a ton of drama and character growth. Still, we got one battle at the beginning and an interesting escape at the end, but no war. I just wanted a punch of action at the end that I really only got a taste of. I give it a Buy-It-On-BluRay, but I give Maurice himself an Awesometacular. And Andy Serkis is one of the greatest actors of our time. He deserves an Oscar Nom.
    EDIT: Don't get me wrong. I loved the movie. I only using "boring" as a comparison to the other films. It may have been more boring, but it wasn't boring in itself. Lime green may be yellower than purple, but lime green isn't really all that yellow. That's what I'm suggesting. I expected the incredible character development to lead to an emotional battle in the finale. But if that wasn't you, great. At least we both love the film.

      I think it depends on your definition on boring. I was invested in this journey from start to finish. I understand the love for action, but the story and Caesar's personal journey werre so powerful and engrossing that I honestly never noticed that the action wasn't going down. I can't tell you how many times this movie had me at the edge of my seat with no action at all. I felt the final act had as much action as it needed to complete the story. While nothing tops the final confrontation between Caesar and Koba in Dawn, I felt the battle and Caesar's final bow cemented this as one of the greatest trilogies ever made.

      Carlos Rodriguez You have to remember that POTA is a true Science Fiction franchise, in the same vein as Blade Runner, 2001, or Star Trek. This isn't Marvel or Star Wars. There wasn't much action-y stuff in the original movies either (and one of them was called Battle). This franchise is more about the journey of the characters, like Taylor or Cornelius in the originals,
      or Caesar now. You can even argue that the "War" in this movie was within Caesar himself. He has an internal battle throughout the film between his longing for Peace and his need for revenge, and sadly his need for revenge won out, and is what got him killed.

    • @Sean-Correa-Production

      I wasn't disappointed at all I loved the movie and the direction it took and I found it better than Dawn for many reasons and I in fact was more blown away than if it would have been 80% of battles because it's a War, I find it being done this way much more better than having a full on war and everything, you even see Caesar say multiple times in dawn and in war that he didn't want this war and he doesn't want to have it because they don't have the really necessities to win it.

  • @3011Oscar
    @3011Oscar 6 лет назад +2

    The movie had a lot of elements of a war. It had 2 mayor battles, slavery, rivalry between more than 2 forces fighting (humans, bad humans and apes) for their own good, they were looking to kill each other and many other aspects of war. Maybe the title "War" is no the most precise for the film itself but it definitely took place in a war.

    I'm sure this has been asked before but can somebody tell me the reason he switched from a blue background to a red background? For some reason it really bothers me.

    This is how you do a prequel that explains its original counterpart, Ridley Scott you should learn from Matt Reeves next time you want to give us a confusing prequel to your Alien franchise.

      Yup! Prometheus and Alien Covenant were both convoluted.

      Prometheus wasn't convoluted. Covenant on the other hand, he made the mistake of listening to Aliens fans.

      Akira Kurursa Still feels Jeremy should have waited a couple days to release this. Doesn't make any difference for me anyway, doesn't come out in Australia for another 2 weeks.

    Am I the only one that was disappointed a bit in War for the Planet of
    the Apes? It's not that it was a bad film.. It's still very moving and
    beautifully shot. I understand the sub text and composition.. But the
    execution was overall a bit lazy with the exception of a few very
    touching moments that were quite effective. And the one comedic relief
    (obviously the 'Bad Ape') felt so forced into what was an otherwise
    humorless and depressing film.
    I get that 'War' was the conclusion of Caesar and finishing what he
    started and they did a good job as far as bringing his story to a close,
    but with that the third installment lost a lot of its charisma and
    charm. I think it would be better viewed shortly after watching the
    first two like it's one long movie because it definitely doesn't stand
    alone or have the re-watch ability like the others do a bit. In the end I
    guess it's what I did expect and was hoping for more of the unexpected?
