I love that Duophonic split oscillator action. That filter is mean as hell too. Just sounds so punk. Like the whole thing sounds so wavery and unpredictable. in the best way.
Right around 4:40... Going from those pan pipes to that sudden squelch and on from there was awesome! You had the rest of your performance in perfect Harmony till the end. This has to be one of your top five videos and most creative of this series. And I'm not saying that just because I own an odyssey (the Behringer). The transitions we're just so "ON". Long seamless streams of shapeshifting. Bravo! I love using the simple short-keybed synths, even just duophonic or quad...to develop themes and actually having that as the backbone for more organic and acoustic tracks, guitar, drums, everything... I always thought I'd really love to try a Mopho 4x to compose.
@Krisp 85 - The synth in this demo IS a mono-synth so that kind of limits it to basslines and wild single note melodies. Also, check out a lot of Jexus' other videos. The guy can really play and gets amazing sounds out of his synths that no-one else has been able to.
Still have my first synth: Odyssey, circa 1981, with the finger pad vibrato/pitch thingies, but the second oscillator kept going out. I guess I gotta get it repaired before using it again!! Man, the soundscapes I did in the early 80's just using the ARP and my Juno-60...called it "Scenic Music", going through Echoplexes...heaven
Still got 'em--you can hear one online--"Along The Way"--at: soundcloud.com/stargazer21 (my artist title). I also have music on Reverbnation and Soundclick under that moniker. I need to digitize the others for upload, but they're pretty long, like 45 min. long! Thanks for asking and for the curiosity. Cheers M8
Thanks! I have searched for this particular one but I'd never guessed it would be the Woodpecker one! I'm listening to it right now! You make fine stuff, I've followed you, my name on soundcloud is lewis'weirdmusic It would be great to hear the whole album. I'm also recording on cassette right now.
Very inspiring and the best oddy vid on the tube! Finally got a nice mk2 myself and I must say this vid speeded that decision up! Good fun and great sound (tried settings from what I could see, no luck) at 1.20 with the car chase. Wish there were more vids like this, but there's only one such thing as the oddy! :D
+cane creek I've gotten it just a few weeks ago. Definitely for expert level synth people. I find it a complete nightmare actually. I just ordered a Blofeld to work with for now. Still keeping the Arp reissue , not chickening out just yet though. I bought the black and orange one.
A nightmare? xD I think it's a straigthforward synth, you got everything in you face. I think it's only a matter of taste. I had also a Blofeld which I sold and bought an Alpha Juno instead, the Blofeld is more metallic than warm but it can produce warm sounds too.
I love all your videos. You are the best. I've just gotten the new Arp and it is very difficult to use. I've also discovered the Blofeld because of your videos. That will be arriving in in two days. I am keeping the Arp but by no means is it for the novice like me. I will get back into it someday but for now I really need the presets of the Blofeld. I'm sure it's a lot easier than the Arp. Thanks for all your fantastic playing and creativity.
The arp is actually pretty easy, it has everything laid out for you! You just need to learn how to use a synthesizer, there are lots of great resources online
gotta say buddy, u know the oddyssey inside and out. i had one. theyre great machines. and youve tamed it. u popped on a saddle and rode that synth all around the sonic rodeo. good job :D
That sound at 05:32 sounds really interesting. And that synth sounds pretty interesting overall. Well, it also depends on what you do with it of course...
no, my reasoning is because the RAmini is exceedingly rare, and Odysseys are not. i've only seen a couple RAminis for sale over the last 5-10 years, while in the same time-frame hundreds of oddys have changed hands. it's an opportunity thing.
ARP is so much like moog that it is crazy. I do have to say that moog is more reliable. What killed the ARP was dust getting in the sliders. Still a great synth! Thanks for posting.
thats crazy i was watching this video only 45mins ago again. Well im yet to find a synth i was after for a reasonable price over here in comparison to japan yet. But i guess it changes as the currencies change up and down. If one of these or a Korg 800 DV it would be nice.
Now that I've played with the ARP ODYSSEY I can safely say it is the BEST SYNTHESIZER EVER. Even better than the minimoog. Yeah I know the minimoog is warm and fuzzy and it has character but the odyssey can take you to 1000 MORE DIMENSIONS!!!!!!!!
Hello, Jexus, if you're alive please answer, have you played KARP? How does it sound in comparison? Because this synth inspires me too and I don't want to sacrifice sound to modern features, size etc.
The new synths are mostly digital and made to be as cheap as possible, so they don't sound as good. But honestly, the new analogs can sound just as good. The only problem is a lot of them are too simple (VCO, VCF, VCA, controlled by LFO and EGs, no extra stuff like S&H, ring mod, noise, etc) and can't make a lot of the more unusual sounds that analog synths are known for.

Found your vids like 7 years ago. Still watching them :D best synth demos
I love that Duophonic split oscillator action. That filter is mean as hell too. Just sounds so punk. Like the whole thing sounds so wavery and unpredictable. in the best way.

Jexus is probably one of the better synthesizer programmers on you tube.
Still have my first synth: Odyssey, circa 1981, with the finger pad vibrato/pitch thingies, but the second oscillator kept going out. I guess I gotta get it repaired before using it again!! where are those recordings dude?

It would be great to hear the whole album. I'm also recording on cassette right now.
The sound you make at 1:00 is one of my favorite sounds I've made on my Odyssey. It's like a grungy electric guitar lead. Great sound.
6:51 behold the face of Jexus.
Very inspiring and the best oddy vid on the tube! Finally got a nice mk2 myself and I must say this vid speeded that decision up!

man i love your videos, the details and work you put in them...very cool. and that is one of my dream synths right there...
Looking forward to the Korg re-issue in september 2014
+cane creek I've gotten it just a few weeks ago.
Definitely for expert level synth people.

+rachel hilgert It's way easier than the Blofeld. It's just that you can't save patches on the Arp.
rachel hilgert literally one of the most straightforward synths to program
I love all your videos.
You are the best.
I've just gotten the new Arp and it is very difficult to use.

+rachel hilgert I was also sold on the Blofeld because of him videos too. He is perhaps the best indeed!
The arp is actually pretty easy, it has everything laid out for you! You just need to learn how to use a synthesizer, there are lots of great resources online
The bit at 3:25 is brilliant. Great intro for a track.
that is the best demo I've ever heard. I'm sold!
I must say the Access Virus A/B has for the longest time been one of the most analog sounding synths I've ever known.
great playing and sounds! what an awesome synth and what a great synthesist!
minimoog sounds like Wood. Arp like steel and concrete. :)
Best demo of the arp
gotta say buddy, u know the oddyssey inside and out. i had one. theyre great machines. and youve tamed it. u popped on a saddle and rode that synth all around the sonic rodeo. good job :D
i was looking for someone to sell me on the revival of this model... and you did it!
One of my favourite ❤️
Wow... best synth sound ever!
HOLY :) Never knew the ARP can make such fucktastic sounds :D
awesome demo! thanks a lot for sharing!
ARP Odyssey.....special sound....great machine!
I don't think so. The one with the Moog filter is the MK2 model, and has the PPC pads; this has the pitch knob. Some of the MK1 models were black.
A link has been added for this video on the Ultimate ARP Odyssey Resource Website
Nice job.
VERY COOL presentation!
Syntezatory ROCKS!!!!!
Just got mine in last week.
MK 2 gotta lova it.
Respect 8)
That sound at 05:32 sounds really interesting.
And that synth sounds pretty interesting overall. Well, it also depends on what you do with it of course...
I still can't my head around the bizarre logic of ARP interfaces, I mean, why do you select the waveform in the amp zone?
in zodiac - disco alliance a ARP Odyssey is used. Very nice band, very nice synth :D
I would love to own a Arp Odyssey. Great demo.!!!!!!
5:50 just wow
This is D.E.V.O. !
great great great performance sounds !!! excellent , i like ARP and I dream on the 2500/2600 moduls
I love it!! unfortuntely, only have oppurtunity to get solus or chroma polaris right now...are they as versatil/phatt?
great comment STINKOPOOP, yeah WC Olo Garb (jexus) plays and works that Arp so well!
I would “like” this over and over with as many times as I’ve come back to watch this. But I just can’t. Having 666 “likes” is so CVLT!
At least 34 people have pooped that bed now.
I would love to have one of these!!!
Still the best ARP Odyssey demo on the web! GAME OVER!
The camera was probably older than the ARP Odyssey...
very very nice, jex love the percussive pukes at 3:30
I'd choose the mk2 or 3 Odyssey in a heartbeat over any minimoog except the RA Moog (which is sky-high in price compared to other minis)
So the only reason you would choose an RA Moog over the Oddy is because it is worth more money?
no, my reasoning is because the RAmini is exceedingly rare, and Odysseys are not. i've only seen a couple RAminis for sale over the last 5-10 years, while in the same time-frame hundreds of oddys have changed hands. it's an opportunity thing.
ARP is so much like moog that it is crazy. I do have to say that moog is more reliable. What killed the ARP was dust getting in the sliders. Still a great synth! Thanks for posting.
It’s sounds so good cause this guy knows what the fuck he’s doing that retro sound guy is an idiot. I love this guys videos
I love my arp! I have the same one! The black and gold with mysteriously NO PPC control.
thats crazy i was watching this video only 45mins ago again. Well im yet to find a synth i was after for a reasonable price over here in comparison to japan yet. But i guess it changes as the currencies change up and down. If one of these or a Korg 800 DV it would be nice.
2:51 is amazing!!
Outstanding !
I can't agree. The sellers in Japan have gone totally mad with their prices! They are even higher than here in Europe without added tax!!!
Now that I've played with the ARP ODYSSEY I can safely say it is the BEST SYNTHESIZER EVER. Even better than the minimoog. Yeah I know the minimoog is warm and fuzzy and it has character but the odyssey can take you to 1000 MORE DIMENSIONS!!!!!!!!
very good synthesis , nice themes like actual techno or dance can be exploited !!!
I want to buy an fx pedal for my Arp. an analog delay or analog reverb. I can only afford one. What would you pick? :)
Can you please give me the settings for the patch @ 3:47?? I LOVE that sound!
Great Demo. Thanks for sharing your videos ;-)
Very fucking nice sound!
the sample and hold module mixer is verry powerfull
odyssey sounds darker than minimoog i believe. that's what i've been looking for, a darker sound.
Lucky is the band that gets to work with you as a producer. Do you have any music released anywhere? Would be interested to know... Incredible video!
wow, it sounds really industrial
What happened to Jexus ?
friggin' nasty basslines
thx i love this vintage shit, nice video good work.
@Mattyew
Much more experimental synth! Encourages the player to explore!
ohh those basses!!!
hehe awesome sounds!
5 ***** added to my favs
awesome!
excellent!
Hello, Jexus, if you're alive please answer, have you played KARP? How does it sound in comparison? Because this synth inspires me too and I don't want to sacrifice sound to modern features, size etc.
Technika VHS jest celowa? Ogólnie mocno kultowe Twoje filmiki.
super nice!!
stary ten arp jest nie do wyjebania!!!
Multo Bene!
Thanks! How were you editing back then? You don’t have to answer but wow.
hardware vhs vcr + hardware video processors (like sony xv-c700) + software editing suite
what camera did you use to record this? i love the shitty quality, takes me back to all my home movies haha
Minimoog, ARP odyssey..booth are excellent instruments. That's only important fact. Historical instruments!
Actually, the tags say 4075... Sounds like a 4075... The "Moog" filter was 4035...
OP?
Dude, your videos rule!
9:15 is wow too
Great demo. I would love to own a Odyssey. Great sounds.
Beast!!
nice stuff..
ARP synths do sound brilliant compared to the Mini. But the Mini does amazing things and has a beautiful voice of it's own. So - buy one of each!!!
Yeah, that bit really reminds me of Mega Man X music.
The new synths are mostly digital and made to be as cheap as possible, so they don't sound as good. But honestly, the new analogs can sound just as good. The only problem is a lot of them are too simple (VCO, VCF, VCA, controlled by LFO and EGs, no extra stuff like S&H, ring mod, noise, etc) and can't make a lot of the more unusual sounds that analog synths are known for.
i have imported most from Japan, even with import tax its cheaper than what some people want for them here in the uk
MONSTER!
Now that's what I can fat sound...
@taigkyo mmm yes a 2 pole one i think lol
I need a Odyssey and a Polivoks also...
quality !
killer
1:25 - GABBER!
What's the patch @ 1.50? It's badass!!
i like the riff that starts at 2:53. is it your own?
0:21
Jungle Love - Steve Miller?!?!?!
my atari sounded pretty much like this hehe
what's with the cars
