We visited The Palace of Holyroodhouse just before Christmas for a tour - turns out we had the place pretty much all to ourselves! This was never intended to be a video, but we were so taken by the place that I've stitched together the limited footage we had to make this wee bonus video.
Hope you are all having a great festive season! See you soon with a proper video :)

Superb, Steve! What a treat to see Holyrood in its Christmas finery, and without throngs of visitors. The intelligent, informative narration about the place and its history was a bonus not often found in videos of this type, and the music was just right. PLEASE do more of these features on Edinburgh's best places to visit. You are turning the negative of a lockdown into something very positive!

Highly concur. It is an exceptional video tour and to me it has much more warmth and personality than a tour through the Queen's Apartment in Edinburgh Castle.

Steve I know this was done 2yrs. ago and I'm watching it for the third time probably. Were there any others about at all? Were you able to wander by yourselves or was there a tour guide just out of sight of the camera? I do remember the lock down here in the states. I remember going to the store and not going near anybody except the cashier. Going home and sanitizing everything including myself. What a horrible time that was. This video made me forget about the bad times we were in. Thanks again for what you do.

My one and only time in Scotland / Edinburgh was a couple of years back when I got sent up by work to do a 5 minute job in a bank building out towards the airport (9 hours train commuting for 5 mins job😁...). But after job done I had 3 hours to myself so I walked up the main road from the posh hotel The Scotsman next to Waverley station, all the way past the impressive Scottish Government building (I think it was called) and on to the roadside park land adjacent to the palace in Steve's video. There are some graveyards on the way with some very famous Scottish folk laid to rest in them. Well worth a visit too. A very nice place Edinburgh looked I thought in the short time I was there. Posh like London, but without the ego and wealth snobbery. Stunning scenery on the train journey too up the East Coast Mainline....

Holyrood Palace was one place we did not get to see when we were there in June 2016 due to the Queen's Garden Party being the week following. We landed in Glasgow the day following the Brexit vote so that in itself made our stay very interesting and a bit less costly since the British Pound tanked as a result of the vote. Great video (just found it!).
I was there in July 2016 and it was crowded with tourists which made it difficult to really appreciate the experience (the risk of travelling at peak season). I recall being surprised by how cramped most of the rooms are, and how dark. Also, I don’t remember being permitted to take photos inside but maybe that has changed. The abbey ruins were visually the best part of the visit for me.
Anywhere you want to visit in Scotland and make a video would be fine with me as we are still fairly much locked down in Canada and desperate for diversion.
