Considering if you died at sea, you were unable to pass on and wound up in the river Styx for eternity, I like the head cannon that the lotus eaters came to bury Polites when Odysseus and his crew couldn't (Polyphemus can't seem them any more and the little lotus eater survived). So, Polites's open arms ensured that he could have an eternal rest when the others could not.
Remember that the song is the last thoughts that went through the minds of the dead as they sing their final thoughts, so all his men died with spite in their heart because his choices murdered them all, but even in the heat of battle Polities still wanted to teach Odysseus how lovely the world is.... Only for him to spit on everything Polites stood for in the next two songs.
@@Razdasoldier I don't think he really spat on Polites's memory ("I lost my best friend"), but he is in an emotional state at all the loss (I can't blame him for that, either). The good news: we're close to the release of the Thunder Saga (July 4th), so we'll all get to see just how much of Polites's mindset survived and where it's exhibited. P.S. We know the suitors aren't going to get any sympathy, so no worries there. XD
In Ancient Greece, if you go MIA or died at sea, aka no retrievable remains to light a pyre, the proper rites is to erect a cenotaph, as mentioned in Helen (by Helen to the Egyptian pharaoh) and the Odyssey (by Athena to Telemachus). If you do not perform the rites it is a desecration of human dignity and the soul cannot move on. These soul are literally the restless dead that will be lost until someone (Odysseus) can perform the rites, since no mortal knows they are dead.
I JUST noticed that in this animatic, after he resolves to become the Monster, Penelope removes Polites' headband - because even after Polites died for him, Odysseus is still turning AGAINST what he believed.
On top of Odysseus’ mom’s part being so heartbreaking, she was also voiced by Jorge’s mom! And her musical motif on the piano in the background is Odysseus’ theme from the beginning of The Horse and the Infant but played in a major chord!
@@cameraguy9800 haha I wouldn’t be surprised. Jorge can freestyle so well too if you’ve seen some of his tik toks where he sings on the spot about his cat to random instrumentals

He knew about his crew and Polites and the infant, but his mom hit him out of nowhere because he wasn't home yet and just didn't know. :'( Poor Anticlea, poor Odysseus.
About the spirits in The Underworld, Jorge confirmed during the release livestream that they're simply repeating their final thoughts. The crew blamed him for everything going wrong, Polites still believed in Open Arms... and his mom never stopped hoping he'd come home.
I just had another realization about that: when the chorus in No Longer You comes in for the second chorus, those souls most likely died in the ways they sing about: "Siren song, Scylla throat, Mutiny, Lightning bolt"
12:00 The part where the spirits are shouting 'Captain' is technically the Ruthlessness theme coming back, since his men were calling out for their captain as all of the ships were being decimated. 15:05 It's not really communicated in the animatic, but the lyrics imply that the spirits can't actually see them; also, I'm sure someones already mentioned it, but Oddyseus' mom is played by Jorge's own mother 29:52 The danger motif comes in during this part of the song; I mentioned before, but the motif is in a triangle progression 45:39 I am the monster rawr rawr rawr :]
Fun facts about the underworld: Odysseus' mom is voiced by Jay's (Jorge) mom and her melodic motif is the same as Odysseus but in major instead of minor! Jay made a video about it
fun fact about the upcoming Thunder Saga. We know nothing of the first 2 songs except that they are wholly original to Epic and do not feature in the Odyssey
Yeah, i wondwr whats it gonna be. Before i heard about it being completely original to the Epic I thought it was the songs for the Sirens and thought that Jorge might have some problem writing songs about them.
It would be 557 died by the Cyclops and Poseidon but the extra 1 is a character named Elpenor who got drunk and fell off the roof of Circe's palace. He was pretty forgettable and Jorge did this intentionally. Lol
The cut song is one of the most unintentionally funniest things Jorge wrote for the Underworld, leading to it getting cut. So yeah - Elpenor's being angry that no one remembered he died even *before* the rest of his party got turned into pigs.
Monster is also the first time Odysseys confirms that he killed the infant. He’s been trying to follow Polites’s advice and greet the world with open arms but it has typically not worked for him, with the exception of Circe.
To be fair, with circe it only really worked because he held her at sword point, manipulating her by trying to appease to her with his "12" long years... that were very much not actually 12 but 10.
^I mean even if it was a bit exaggerated I saw the core of that of him not wanting to betray his wife and him begging her to stop and have mercy on them. Circe sees the genuine love for his wife and his pain from being a part for so long. And with the 12 long years I personally like the headcanon that Polites was the one in charge of keeping track of the calendar and after he was gone they lost track of time.
a detail u missed is Penelope rips of the cloth of Polites, that signifies the remainder of good will in Oddy (polites was the embodiment of kind, good, and morality) symbolizing he is throwing away all his hope to stay moral

As someone who lost a parent early in life, the part with Odysseus’s mom hit super hard. I’ve been through a lot good and bad with my family drama so I really get what you mean and why that part cut so deep. As an additional piece of emotional information, Odysseus’s mom is actually voice by Jorge’s mom. Also on the topic of other musical stuff you could react to that seems to draw some attention from the algorithm, if you aren’t already familiar with Guilty Gear Strive’s soundtrack, it’s super worth listening to.
Something you touched on during the Underworld about how we all experience loss- it’s what really breaks my heart is just how relatable Odysseus’ loss with his mom can really be. We grow up and go on our ‘journeys’ and sometimes we leave people - especially parents, to wait to see us again. We can only hope and do our best that our growth and circumstances don’t keep us apart so long that it can be too late to see them again. I definitely called my mom after hearing that song😭
Penelope yanking off Polites' headband basically means Odysseus is throwing away the kindness and goodness he said he still believed in during Luck Runs Out. It means no more greeting the world with open arms.
The danger motif is usually subtle, but the moment where you hear it clearly is during Poseidon's introduction: the choir was chanting his name IN THE DANGER MOTIF (symbolic of how he's Odysseus' biggest danger)
Jorge (if i recal properly) confirmed that the souls repeat what they felt in their last moments, so while the crew where asking why? Polites always believed they could have open arms, and his mom never stopped waiting...
Odysseus struggling with his decisions in each song throughout the sagas, because (he's Just A Man) being told to have (Open arms) by his friend but to have no mercy and be (Ruthless) by Athena/Posidon and seeing where that behavior leads to with Circe, his journey to becoming a Monster is so tragic.
Odyseuss’ entire journey in monster is realising that being nice has screwed him over when, like Circe, the Cyclopes, and Poseidon, being Ruthless would protect his men. It’s even more striking when you realize that he’s is literally correct! The only time things worked out for him was when he dropped the infant, ever on their time, things ended in disaster. Even if we know where this is going, in the present it makes perfect sense!
I’ve not seen people mention at 46:20 during monster Penelope removed Polites’ head band from Odysseus showing how Odysseus has fully moved away from greeting the world with open arms
Yes feel my pain I felt when i listened to the Underworld Saga. Down in the Underworld is my favorite song because it always makes me cry without fail. I love this song so much despite how Jorge gut punches me every single time I hear it!
Demons run when a good man goes to war Night will fall and drown the sun When a good man goes to war Friendship dies and true love lies Night will fall, and the dark will rise When a good man goes to war Demons run, but count the cost The battle's won, but the child is lost
The underworld saga is my favorite. It's death 13 and "it's all Odysseus's fault". For No Longer You I still prefer the animatic that I chose. First off when the prophet says "There is a world where I help you get home, but that is not a world I know" this blames Odysseus for making poor choices and now he must change. Second, the whole premise is "I see past and future running free" and it's supposed to be separated in the chorus, the first the past, second the future: [SPOILER] chorus past future I see a song of past romance Penelope Calypso I see the sacrifice of man Baby Sirens, Scylla and Charybdis I see portrayals of betrayal lotus eaters/ bag of winds Eurylochus/ mutiny and a brother's final stand Polites Telemachus I see you on the brink of death Poseidon Poseidon I see you draw your final breath Circe/ underworld Scheria
I would recomend Krieo's animatic for no longer you, what they do with the first and second chorus is genius, putting things from the past in the first one and things from the furture feels great
Maaaaaaaaan, the part with Odysseus's mom HITS, like no matter who you are it hits someway somehow. Even if it's not particularly sad depending on the song, there's a certain feeling that type of melodies invoke.
bruh i felt the same way you did at the end of this video when finally finished all the songs i was so sad when i finished ruthlessness and had nothing next to follow like holy crap that cliff hanger was intense.
I am aware. I saw someone mention there was something called the danger motive and was trying to find something similar everywhere. I now know what that motive is!
I just found your channel, but I like your whole vibe, from the bard to the tavern to the fun little editor comments added throughout, I'm gonna sub and stick around.
Ready to cry even more? The motif playing when Odyssey’s mom shows up, is the same motif playing when Odyssey is being cunning or coming up with a plan, but slower and on a piano instead of a Guitar
After listening to Thunder Saga, Monster completely changes meaning and becomes even more tragic. In his desperation, he comes to a conclusion about himself, a plan of action to get home at all cost to avoid the prophecy he got. Yet, in doing so, he ensures that the prophecy will come true and dooms everyone that he cares about.
Your breakdown of everything is so much fun! I love Polites' theme returning in Underworld with the different modal chords under it, and then Odysseus' mom with 'waiting' being the danger motif. Jorge is fantastic at building blocks up and knocking them down into the basement. ;) Can't wait to listen to thunder with you
Not sure if anyone has said it, and im not 100% sure since i heard it from word of mouth. But apparently jorge confirmed that the parts of Odysseus's mom, the crew and politese, what they sing is what they were thinking in their final moments
Every time I hear the Underworld song I just cry, it's just emotional pang after pang, from the 558 dead soldiers, to Polities, to his own mom. I can't help but to cry
No idea if anyones told you yet, but Jorge mentioned how in the underworld, what the spirits are singing are the things they were thinking before they died! So that makes it so much worse :D The crew were blaming him for their pain and suffering Polites was still thinking about Ody and how he should continue to be kind even after his death and to not let it taint his view on the world And his mom was thinking she could hold out just a little longer. Just waiting for him to come home so she could see him one more time :3
"No Longer You" became my favourite song from all the musical right after listening to it. I liked it so mcuh that would love to do an animatic myself, but never done something like that, I'm an artist, I draw, but Animating is something else.

People already hit oyu with the "Jay's mom plays oddy's mom" heartbreak, but Ill hit you with the "Oddessy" heartbreak too. When the crew opened the wind bag, they were within eyesight of Ithica. Literally a few miles or a few hours out from being home and being with their loved ones. Odysseus' mom was literally standing at the docks watching them sail in when the wind bag was opened, casting them back into the ocean in essentially a double-god powered storm. She believed she watched her son die just hours out from home after 10-11 years being away, and she (cant remember specifically but one or the other) died of a broken heart/killed herself in her grief.

15:00 Hearing you shying away from the Polites theme I was thinking to myself "Oh you poor summer child, you have no idea. That was the appetiser of suffering. We haven't even gotten to the main course yet."
The scene with his mother tears me up because i was on the way to visit my brother in physio when his heart stopped. He kept his congestive heart failure from us, he knew he was gonna die in a few months to a few years but said nothing. and we were already on the highway and he was expecting us to visit soon. and we were only 20 minutes away when he passed.

The worst thing is that none of the souls here got a proper burial. No obols to give to charon. They are damned to roam the banks of the Acheron (the river that circles Hades) for 100 years. and there is no cerberus in sight. Odysseus is not even at the gates of hell and they are all here, wailing at him, all of his regrets
PO-LI-TES. HOW DO YOU MISTAKE THAT?!?!?!?!?!? Jk it's ok man. ODYSSEUS' MOM IS JORGE'S(the creator) MOM! AAAAAAAAAAAAAAH!!! Also 558 men is 557+1 Elpenor who died on Circe's Island. Which is why Poseidon said "43 left under your command" and not 42.

SO THE BACK VOICES ARE SAYING Siren song Scylla throat Mutiny Lightning bolt (Last two are fan guesses) ______ Poseidon Kill all the suitors for love HOPE IT HELPS!!
crap I guess this was the first time I really listened to the Underworld. Like seriously listened to it. I come from a very musical family and my mom was always singing something, and so I love to sing to my favorite music to the best of my ability. I was at work when I first listened to this and ended up just going down the mental rabbit hole of thinking how similar my mom sounded to Odysseus's mom and I dunno whether it was that or just the connection of thinking of myself in Odysseus's shoes, of not being there for my mom and not being there when she eventually dies. Crap. Well now I cant listen to this song without getting choked up. Crap.
I'm gonna make you all suffer with this 'fun'((sad)) fact, Jorge added the fact that the last moments of Polites and his mother were the lyrics in the underworld song. SO BASICALLY Polites still thinking to **greet the world with open arms** even when he died while Odysseus's mother is STILL waiting for him....which is a fucking punch in the gut...also if you heard the snippet of The Challenge song in the early days you'll hear Penelope repeat waiting the same way his mom did giving away the fact that Penelope was by his mother side when she was on her deathbed and is another depressing fact....IF I HAVE TO SUFFER KNOWING THIS FACT IM DRAGGING YA'LL WITH ME IN THIS-
Here’s the sad thing. According to myth, the spirits in the underworld are speaking their last thoughts. So even as he was dying, Polites (sp?) was optimistic. Also … Odysseus’ mother was voiced by Jorge’s mother. She said that while singing this song, it hit her that her son would outlive her.
The underworld, “558 men, who died under your command” when Poseidon killed the sea men, he said “43 men left under your command” see? The math doesn’t add up, well turns out in Circe’s island elapenor (or whatever his name was) died, yknow the guy who was bald and stood next to Odysseus in the ocean saga
You've got it a bit mixed up, yes the one missing person is Elpenor, but he's just a minor character. That bald guy next to Odysseus is Eurylochus and he's pretty much still alive at this point, he's gonna die in next saga, tho
Not so fun fact because it hurts more, but Odysseus's mom is sung bu jorge's mom, and neither of them could get through their whole set of lyrics without crying. Because fuck.
If you want to react to music, I’d recommend Genshin Impact’s music. It’s by far some of my favorite and best music I’ve heard. Every nation is based off of it’s real life counterparts, so every region has it’s own music culture.

[SPOILER]
chorus past future
I see a song of past romance Penelope Calypso
I see the sacrifice of man Baby Sirens, Scylla and Charybdis
I see portrayals of betrayal lotus eaters/ bag of winds Eurylochus/ mutiny
and a brother's final stand Polites Telemachus
I see you on the brink of death Poseidon Poseidon
I see you draw your final breath Circe/ underworld Scheria
Also, Thunder Saga comes out July 4th! Two days after my birthday!
See you July 4th!!!!
I would recomend Krieo's animatic for no longer you, what they do with the first and second chorus is genius, putting things from the past in the first one and things from the furture feels great
every time i listen to underworld, without fail, the mom part makes me cry
I love animatics of No Longer You but I love What Krieo did with it. Do check it out when you can.
Underworld is my favorite saga so far! Loved your reactions to it!
Now we wait for July 4th for the next saga to release
Maaaaaaaaan, the part with Odysseus's mom HITS, like no matter who you are it hits someway somehow. Even if it's not particularly sad depending on the song, there's a certain feeling that type of melodies invoke.
The thunder saga just got an announced for July 4th.
I remember “Polites” by remembering how is the most Polite.
That's....thank you. I hope that helps my brain!
bruh i felt the same way you did at the end of this video when finally finished all the songs i was so sad when i finished ruthlessness and had nothing next to follow like holy crap that cliff hanger was intense.
The Danger motif isn't the four notes you heard during No Longer You.
I’d love to see you react to Your Lie in April, main character plays the piano and the love interest a Violin and they both play in competitions!
Your breakdown of everything is so much fun! I love Polites' theme returning in Underworld with the different modal chords under it, and then Odysseus' mom with 'waiting' being the danger motif. Jorge is fantastic at building blocks up and knocking them down into the basement. ;)
Can't wait to listen to thunder with you
Thank you so much!
Thunder saga dropping July 4th boys!!
Alongside Zenseless Zone Zero? Jorge really has a knack for picking release dates lol
Update: I just remembered that's also Independence Day... (I'm not American)
When Penelope pulls the band off of Odysseus’s head 46:24. That’s Polities’s headband. She took Polities
i heard the underworld for the first time about a month after losing my mom. that shit hurted! i fully understand you getting emotional at this one
Can't wait for the next saga to start July 4th.
Not sure if anyone has said it, and im not 100% sure since i heard it from word of mouth. But apparently jorge confirmed that the parts of Odysseus's mom, the crew and politese, what they sing is what they were thinking in their final moments
I know I butcherd his name lol I have no clue how to spell it
No worries. I can't ever pronounce a name correctly!
So that makes it so much worse :D
The crew were blaming him for their pain and suffering
Polites was still thinking about Ody and how he should continue to be kind even after his death and to not let it taint his view on the world
And his mom was thinking she could hold out just a little longer. Just waiting for him to come home so she could see him one more time
:3
"No Longer You" became my favourite song from all the musical right after listening to it. I liked it so mcuh that would love to do an animatic myself, but never done something like that, I'm an artist, I draw, but Animating is something else.
ok so musically I recommend any of the songs the Band Mili have done for the game Limbus Company (and Library of Ruina too).
also the regular battle music from that same game that was made by Studio EIM, if you are interested I'd be more than happy to discuss more!
I'm always trying to find new content! Thank you for the suggestions.
@@sunoshecano3837 yeah, if you'd like for my Favourites I'd say (in order for better enjoyment):
Fly, My Wings
Compass
Through Patches of Violet
and for a finale: Between Two Worlds.
PD: they all have lyrics on their official vids so CC arent necesary
If you want to look into game music, Persona is always a good place to look. Or if nerdy stuff in general is okay, i qould like to see how you approach nerdcore music.
He did recently react to some Hades 2 music that you should check out. :3
I love the persona franchise. I've alt least listen to P3-P5 music for a long time!
15:00 Hearing you shying away from the Polites theme I was thinking to myself "Oh you poor summer child, you have no idea. That was the appetiser of suffering. We haven't even gotten to the main course yet."
21:52 Also, I don't know what it is about people who react to Epic having the sassiest editors on youtube but I love it!
21:45 That's rough buddy.
I'm so sorry Caradon. If you don't mind sharing, what's your favorite memory with him?
@@criminalchicken499 Seems silly but my favorite memories with him were playing survival crafting games together back before I pulled away to focus on writing more
I don't care how many times I listen to "The Underworld" I will always cry or get the water works started. I have listened to this song/watch reacts over 100 times and... It never gets easier. lol
Thunder Saga is next up and coming soon! Really excited for it!
Jorge's mom sung for Ody's mom and now anytime I hear them singing together I cry.
POLOTIUS!!! I CAN'T-
The worst thing is that none of the souls here got a proper burial.
I am the monster rawr rawr rawr :)
HAIII I WOULD LIKE TO GIVE YOU SOME INFO ON THE SONG ‘No longer you’!!!
SO THE VOICES IN THE BACK ARE TELLING US ABOUT THE THUNDER SAGA AND THE VENGEANCE SAGA (PROBABLY NOT VENGEANCE SAGA BUT I BELIEVE SO!) SO THE BACK VOICES ARE SAYING
Siren song
Scylla throat
Mutiny
Lightning bolt
(Last two are fan guesses)
______ Poseidon
Kill all the suitors for love
HOPE IT HELPS!!
8:50 Oh that but and the lyrics chilled me!!
crap I guess this was the first time I really listened to the Underworld. Crap.
Waiting will never fail to make me cry, the fact that its his real mom dose not help😢
I'm gonna make you all suffer with this 'fun'((sad)) fact, Jorge added the fact that the last moments of Polites and his mother were the lyrics in the underworld song. SO BASICALLY Polites still thinking to **greet the world with open arms** even when he died while Odysseus's mother is STILL waiting for him....which is a fucking punch in the gut...also if you heard the snippet of The Challenge song in the early days you'll hear Penelope repeat waiting the same way his mom did giving away the fact that Penelope was by his mother side when she was on her deathbed and is another depressing fact....IF I HAVE TO SUFFER KNOWING THIS FACT IM DRAGGING YA'LL WITH ME IN THIS-
17:38 remember to call your mom people or atleast your mother figure she loves you and probably misses you call her before it's too late
This saga is like Odysseus joining the dark side and becoming a sith
Want to know what makes the souls scene sadder, everything the souls says are their finals thoughts just before death. (This fact is confirmed)
13:55 Odysseus: Polities Suno: Yeah Poloteis!
Bazinga
"The scariest man is the nice one who has had to deal with too much pain. "
odysseus (twice): polites
suno: poloteus
Words are harf....even after I've heard them!
Not so fun fact because it hurts more, but Odysseus's mom is sung bu jorge's mom, and neither of them could get through their whole set of lyrics without crying. Because fuck.
Odysseus was a monster while he fight in the war so he keeps all his man saved until he stop be that monster most hi man died
Imma add another vote for Six The Musical for future reactions.
Next Saga is in a month.
If you want to react to music, I’d recommend Genshin Impact’s music. It’s by far some of my favorite and best music I’ve heard. Every nation is based off of it’s real life counterparts, so every region has it’s own music culture.
I played genshin impact for years. I swear I would stop to listen to all the ost in random places and forget I was playing a game!
I know I already suggested it, but maybe react to SIX the musical.
That may be on the list of future content.
