      ... But the same power limit as the reference card so it's sadly still bottom tier. The power limits are the bottlenecks for overclocking 7900XTs.
      After applying +15% my 7900XT Taichi goes up to 400w sustained power consumption with a great overclock, it actually slightly outperforms a stock 7900XTX as well as the 4080 in raster. And it's still bottlenecked by its power limit, although above 400w would probably see diminishing returns anyway.

      ASRock Phantom Gaming Radeon RX 7900 XT to buying or avoid ??

  • @Altrop
    @Altrop 11 месяцев назад +22

    Important info! (you missed the best card imo): The ASRock 7900XT Taichi has 3 power connectors, 20 phase VRM and goes up to a sustained 400w after applying +15%! It uses the same cooler as the 7900XTX Tai Chi, so temps are amazing. It's easily on par with the Nitro+ but €100 cheaper. Extremely impressed by ASrock with this model.
    Mine does 2900-3000Mhz core (min max clock) and hovers around ~2950Mhz rock solid undercload, 2750Mhz VRAM (+10%), 1015Mv voltage offset (yes really!), 75c hotspot in furmark at 60% fan speed while drawing 400w, fans barely audible. Fully stable, stress tested for hours with multiple tests/benchmarks and played tons of games including with Ray Tracing. The undervolt gave me more power budget for higher clocks. Even now, the power limit is my OC bottleneck.
    The secret to 1015Mv stability is the min clock setting: by putting it only 100Mhz below max clock, you "flatten" the voltage curve and tl;dr the GPU won't be voltage starved under light/medium loads, which is where most undervolts otherwise start crashing.
    31.5k Timespy score and it's slightly faster in games than a stock 7900XTX, nkt just in 3dmark but also in games judging by review benchmarks. I have it paired with a 5800X3D so in most cases I'm good on the CPU front.
    People are REALLY sleeping on the 7900XT due to the bad initial reviews, it's great value for high-end 1440P and the tweakability is nuts with the right model.
    The Taichi is easily S tier and at European prices it's objectively the best you can buy, only €30 more than the cheapest available model.
    Real shame you didn't include it :)

    • @Altrop
      @Altrop 11 месяцев назад +3

      I basically got a stock 7900XTX but €200 cheaper, can't be mad at that. More people should know so thanks for this video :)
      At 1440P the lower VRAM bandwidth doesn't matter, 880GB/s @ 2750Mhz is plenty.
      If you have a 4K monitor I would recommend the 7900XTX Tai Chi, that one is also S tier. The XTX gives a little extra oomph that ages better for 4K.
      ASRock made amazing RDNA3 cards, at lower prices than other S tier cards. Their RDNA2 Tai Chi cards were "only" A tier (I had a 6800XT Tai Chi), but they really upped their game.
      For a regular 1440P screen I can really recommend the 7900XT, especially the Taichi. It's a total no-brained vs the same price 4070Ti imo and with this overclock I get better rasterization performance than a 4080 and +4GB, so I'll be comfortable until RDNA5.
      Literally the only downside is its power consumption, but I don't care much as I rarely hit the full 400w in games, really only in Cyberpunk, I use Radeon Chill with a 85-141FPS range (144Hz monitor) and I mostly see figures between 250-350w.
      It scales well, for example Elden Ring 1440P maxed out with Max RT consumes only 200w due to the 60FPS lock and runs butter smooth.
      Truly a shame AMD botched the launch and people dismiss this GPU so easily.

      @@BibiBubu-il3jz Coil whine is per article "feature" not per model. It's more about to have a good luck like winning the silicone lottery. That being said you can take 2 absolutely identical GPUs (eg. 2 MSI X Trio) and one to be completely silent and the other to have noisy coil whine. I speak from experience. So there is absolutely no way to make a tier list based on coil whine. Currently I have MSI Trio Z 3060 ti which has max rated TDP of 240W. It had some coil whine but not so noisy until I undervolted it and the GPU dropped to about 190W - the coil whine just disappeared. For comparison a friend of mine bought exactly the same GPU that has 0 coil whine at 240 W. We both tested with identical games and benchmarks. So yea basically it is typically for more power hungry cards that are built with more VRM phases, electronics etc. to have some coil whine. It is produced when an electrical current runs through electromagnetic coils.

Now it is noisey but I don't really care about noise as my speakers are higher then them and I cna't hear the fans when playing games when I am not playing a game the fans go to 20% and I don't even hear them over my AIO fans which I think I should do something about that aio later LOL

    • @OTechnology

      There was no RX 7900 XT Taichi when I made the video for some reason. It would seem to me like an S tier card since it has triple 8-pins.

    • @Altrop
      @Altrop 11 месяцев назад

      I have it and know it extremely well after days if tweaking and testing.
      The Taichi is S tier, 20 phase VRM, 3 power connectors, very good cooling, it's easily on par with the Nitro+ but €100+ cheaper. In fact I got it for only €30 more than the cheapest possible 7900XT (Phantom Gaming, coincidentally), no-brainer purchase. Cheapest S tier card without skimping on anything!
      It consumes up to 400w sustained, after applying +15%. Same power limit as the Nitro+.
      My settings: 2900-3000Mhz min-max core ( hovers around 2950Mhz under heavy load), 2750Mhz VRAM default timings and, wait for it.. 1015Mv voltage offset! 100% stable, extensively tested. 31.5k Timespy score for reference, better than a stock XTX which tends to score 28-30k. In game FPS boost is 15-20% vs a reference 7900XT which puts it slightly above a normal XTX and 4080 in raster.
      The power limit is the bottleneck for overclocking these cards, so you must undervolt to overclock more, and find that perfect sweet spot (too much undervolting and the core won't reach its target clock).
      The key to the 1015Mv stable UV on my 7900XT Taichi is having only 100Mhz difference between the min and max clock. The voltage setting affects a voltage curve and if you leave the min clock at 500, the GPU will be voltage starved sooner under low/medium loads and crash. Increasing the min clock to 100Mhz below max "flattens" the curve, greatly boosting stability and allowing for lower voltages (and higher clocks! ) since low/medium loads is where undervolts get unstable first.
      Ofc the card still clocks down below the min clock under lower loads. It's a bit vague what exactly the min clock means but just trust me that leaving them 100Mhz apart will let you undervolt more.
      That gave me the power budget for this 100% stable OC (tested extensively), there are no power related core or VRAM clockspeed dips, both overclocks are stable. I could push the core 50Mhz higher by leaving VRAM at 2500Mhz but this setup gave me the best performance.
      75c hotspot while drawing 400w in Furmark, at a barely audible 60% fan speed.
      Considering price, the Taichi is the 7900XT GOAT imo especially if you enjoy tweaking.
      The 7900XT is the best high end card for 1440P imo. It can also do 4K well but then I would recommend the 7900XTX Tai Chi, the XTX just has a bit more oomph to age better for 4K.
      I myself will stay at 1440P for the foreseeable future and this card will definitely hold me over until RDNA5. Best choice out of all the options I had imo (€400 cheaper than a 4080 and €200 cheaper than an XTX).
      Shame it was not included in this video :)
      The 7900XT got terrible launch reviews and as a result it's a really slept on card. Also, most reviewers don't overclock anymore, and when they do they usually do it wrong. The only downside of this card vs the competition is the power consumption but as a tweaker I don't care. The Taichi is the same price as a 4070Ti, which it absolutely destroys while having 8GB more crucial VRAM. With some tweaks you end up in 4080/7900XTX tier.

    • @Altrop
      @Altrop 11 месяцев назад

      The 7900XT Taichi was released a year ago and I've owned one for 4 months so you must have missed it :)
      It's 100% S tier. 20 phase VRM, triple power connectors, same power limit as a Nitro+ and excellent cooler. Can draw 400w sustained after applying +15% and has enough OC headroom to outperform stock XTX cards at least below 4K, with a very low Hotspot temp (75c in furmark).
      It's the cheapest of all S tier models without skimping on anything, arguably the best 7900XT to buy. Dunno about current prices but when I bought mine it was only €30 more expensive than the cheapest available model.
      ASRock really stepped up their game with the RDNA3 Tai Chi cards.
      Too bad AMD botched the 7900XT launch cause it's very much slept on especially for high performance 1440P and especially if you get a good model.

    7:45 is one of many reasons I will no longer support Nvidia. I like AMD more as a company and their hardware is plenty good for my needs. My current build has a 5700X3D / Asrock PG 7900XT and I've never been happier with a PC. I went with the Asrock card over the others for a few reasons. I like them, my PC only supports dual slot cards, and my PSU only has 2 8pins. i also have it, and it's a luck situation with xfx card, depending on the revision you got.
      The pressure of the cooler and pcb end up pumping out the paste, so temps and hotspot will keep going up until the gpu needs to keep the fans at 2500rpm to cooldown 350w with hotspot nearing 100°C.
      If you got unlucky and got one of those revisions, you have 3 options.
      1.- sell it.
      2.- rma it, but the issue will come back eventually unless the card gets replaced.
      3.- use a thermalpad like the ptm7950 or kryosheet, that and selling it are the only permanent solutions, after i used the kryosheet my hotspot temps went down 25°C under the same power draw, and fans went down from 2500 to 1550rpm, it was a different card by changing that.

    I have a problem with the hotspot temperature goes to 110c once seen to 111c. How is this possible? Even my old laptop 3050rx all of a sudden does resets after maybe less as a minute of a game. Some more hardware in the past has these prob's too but hidden underneath layers and sensors. You think it comes along from an old system forced register or spot or service? Like a pandora's box from hell from RuneShape to dofus?

    The XFX Merc 310 can have hotspot issues, mine at factory settings was hitting over 100c with 3000rpm fan speed, you can find quite a few people have the same issue, I've been able to mostly resolve it but my temps are still worse than they should be. XFX did say they'd honour an RMA even if I decide to apply new thermal paste (I haven't yet) which is good of them.

      I just purchased mine secondhand, and it suffers from a 40 degree delta between the gpu temp and the gpu hotspot. It hits around 90c in the hotspot. While the gpu reports being at 50 degrees C. I do not believe that XFX honors the warranty since I am not the original purchaser. So it seems I am out of luck. I did a repaste and I tried remounting after I saw that the hotspot had not changed whatsoever. However, this is what I get for purchasing secondhand and trying to save a few bucks I guess.

Looks so weird going from a 6700 Powercolor Red Devil with all the ominous red lighting... to a tiny pulsing little light. Whole front of my case is dark now, gotta rethink my theme, or if I want to bother leaving it vertically mounted.
