The Hyundai Exter can be had in five broad variants: EX, S, SX, SX (O) and SX (O) Connect.
Bookings for the Exter have been open for an amount of Rs 11,000.
It gets a 1.2-litre petrol engine and a CNG version as well.
Features an 8-inch touchscreen infotainment system, a single-pane sunroof and a dash cam with dual cameras.
Gets 6 airbags, ABS with EBD, electronic stability control (ESC) and vehicle stability management (VSM) as standard safety features.
Hyundai Exter, the latest addition to the Indian micro-SUV segment, has been launched at a starting price of Rs 5.99 lakh (ex-showroom). Bookings for the Exter have been open for a while now and deliveries will begin shortly. The Hyundai Exter has entered the market as a direct rival to the Tata Punch and here is what’s on offer :-
The Hyundai Exter comes at a starting price of Rs 5.99 lakh (introductory, ex-showroom) which is the same as its prime rival, the Tata Punch. Prices for the CNG variants start at Rs 8.24 lakh (introductory, ex-showroom).
The Hyundai Exter gets a boxy design language. The front profile gets a bold-looking upright fascia, skid plate, stubby bonnet and H-shaped LED DRLs. Below the DRLs, you can find the LED headlights in a square housing.
The side profile gets cladding for a more prominent SUV look and the wheel arches bulge towards the outside. The micro-SUV also comes with 15-inch dual-tone alloy wheels.
From the back, the Exter gets a bold look just like the front. The tail lamps get the same H-shaped element as the front and these lamps are joined by a thick black strip. The rear skid plate also starts at a high position to give it a more rugged look.
The interiors of the Hyundai Exter look identical to that of the Grand i10 Nios. It gets the same layout of the centre console, and the diamond pattern on the dashboard is also the same as the Grand i10 Nios. The difference here is in the colour scheme. While the Hyundai hatchback gets a dual-tone cabin, the Exter comes with an all-black one. It also gets semi-leatherette seats and a leather-wrapped steering wheel.
When it comes to features, the Exter offers an 8-inch touchscreen infotainment system, a semi-digital instrument cluster, wireless phone charger, paddle shifters, cruise control, a single-pane sunroof with voice commands, automatic climate control with rear AC vents and a dual-camera dash cam.
In terms of passenger safety, it gets six airbags, ABS with EBD, electronic stability control (ESC), vehicle stability management (VSM), hill hold assist and 3-point seatbelts for all passengers as standard. Higher variants of the micro-SUV offer features like tyre pressure monitoring system (TPMS), day and night IRVM, a rearview camera and a rear defogger.
The Exter gets the same engine option as the Grand i10 Nios and Aura: a 1.2-litre naturally aspirated petrol engine that makes 82PS and 113Nm. This unit is paired with either a 5-speed manual or a 5-speed AMT.
It also gets a CNG powertrain with this engine which generates a lower output of 69PS and 95Nm. Its CNG variants, just like most CNG cars, only come paired with a 5-speed manual transmission.
Hyundai has also revealed the fuel efficiency figures of the Exter. The petrol-manual claims a mileage of 19.4 kmpl, the petrol-AMT claims 19.2 kmpl and the CNG has a fuel efficiency of 27.1 km/kg.
The Hyundai Exter is a direct competitor to the Tata Punch and the Maruti Suzuki Ignis but it can also be considered an alternative to the bigger cars such as Citroen C3, Renault Kiger, Nissan Magnite and the Maruti Fronx.
