  • The 9th round of the World Rapid 2022 was an extremely important one for Magnus Carlsen. That's because he was paired with an opponent who wasn't world class. Why Giga Quparadze is a very strong GM, he is not in the category of 2700+ rated players. That meant that Magnus had a chance to score a full point. And a full point in the 9th round of the event would most likely mean that he would catapult into the sole lead. That's the energy with which Magnus played the game by Giga was super quick. He put the World Champion under great pressure. Check out the game to find if Magnus was able to triumph or not.

    If Carlsen thinks for so long, it means he's calculated a mate-in-70.

    Very pleasant game to watch ! Look at the board defense positions at min 3:55 and then at 5:15 after the massacre in the center. The King can play too at 17:00. Well played by both opponents !

    I belived based on the time diff. That Carlsens Super intuition is off!? Thats why he is calculating a lot! 😅

  • @keytothegate68

    It is NOT 30 seconds. Each time he makes a move he gains 10 seconds the game could go on for hours or indefinitely.

    every single game i swear to god, he is late, sits at the last minute, time starts, he drinks water, fiddles with some object (his participation id here), fiddles with the jacket, then meticulously fix the pieces and THEN plays e5 or something 😂

    • @drewberrynews3875
      @drewberrynews3875 Год назад

      Carlsen won. the handshake was his opponent resigning. If you're new to chess Id recommend setting up the board position to explore the endgame position why his opponent resigned.

      the one who offers the handshakes resigns to the opponent in this case Giga resigned to Magnus

    • @ppdan
      @ppdan Год назад

      @@francescolombardi7515 I am not very good but I guess that if does try to take the pawn G4 magnus could simply rush for a queen with the other pawn (F3). Since he would queen on a white square there is nothing that the bishop can do.
      Also looks like magnus could attack the opponents last pawn (king to C5) probably forcing a bishop trade freeing the way for the pawn that the bishop was blocking to queen.
      That's what I see with my 0 rating. Did I partly get that right?

  • @dfchang813

    Wtf … in rapid game with 10 second increment and when you are in endgame 30 seconds for Magnus may as well be 30 minutes.

    So, how do I know who won? Did Giga Quparadze offer a let's-agree-to-a-draw handshake or a I-give-up-handshake ? How do I tell the difference?

    • @kewkabe
      @kewkabe Год назад +31

      If he was in a lost position and offered his hand, it's to resign. If it's a three-fold repetition or mutual insufficient material, both sides know it's a draw. Otherwise he'd say "draw?" and only offer his hand if the opponent agrees. You can also tell by the placement of kings after they finish. Both on black = black wins, both white = white wins, one black one white = draw.

      Look at the color of the squares they put their kings on after the game is over. If they agree on draw, each king would be on their own respective color. Otherwise they'd both be on same color of whichever side won

    • @outisnemo8443

      Look at where they place the kings after the game is over; they're both on black squares, meaning that black won.
