I have had a pea puffer for 2 years in a 5.5 gal tank of male guppies. Heavily planted with enough ramshorn snails. 'Puffy' has taught me WHAT he wants. #1 He eats the snail eggs and newly hatched snails. #2 When the elder snails die off, he comes to the glass and lets me know to add more adults to lay those eggs.#3 I have never seen him eat an adult snail. He gets mad at the occasional one that he suspects is not laying enough eggs and PUSHES the snail over. That's all. CONCLUSION - there is a wonderful BALANCE in this tank due to the snails constantly cleaning while Puffy keeps them from over-populating. TWO YEARS of this now. I LOVE it!!!!!!😊😊😊
Defo interested in potential housemates I know ottos are supposed to be good but didn't know of any other. I've only got a 30l nano I was planning for a single one of these as I don't know if I could add more or add some dither fish like chilli rasbora. Would be filtered by Hamburg matten filter. Thanks for the video
Hi there! I am considering potentially starting a new set up for pea puffers, if my current community tank is not ideal for them. I was wanting to get your insight if I could! My current community tank is a 20 gallon with water parameters matching their needs, but their tank mates would be one bristlenose pleco and 2 upsidedown catfish. (I have not been able to find a third to complete the school in the last 3 years.) Would pea puffers leave the unmoving fish alone? Or are they likely to nibble on the bristlenose and catfish, even if they are well fed?
@@Fishkeepingmadeeasy I just fed them for today and they ate them all... Goby's too are so cute and fun to watch when hunting the worms... I just don't know if I have to feed my 7 samurai puffers once every day?
@@juli8vdberg562 You've probably sorted this by now but you should look up youtube videos on how to culture different kinds of foods for pea puffers (e.g. breeding pond snails on purpose, daphnia, etc.)
It would maybe be a risk so you’d have to keep an eye on them. Something larger like a 100 litres as Gold Barbs can grow to almost 10cm but they tend to be pretty placid, just provide loads of hiding spots for the puffers and make sure they get feed as the baths are quick and very greedy

Three is just an awkward number when it comes to fish but in a heavily planted tank you should be okay! Just keep an eye out that no one is getting bullied!
@@TDV1 yeah it does but if two pair up and breed the 3rd one will end up getting abused. It happened with my geophagus but you’ll be fine with the puffers! If you can id get more! @@Fishkeepingmadeeasy Oh ok yeah i'll definitely take your word for it. So yeah great, more than 3 for sure. Yes, I have 3 pea puffers in with a betta, and they leave each other alone. I just keep them well fed and stimulated. And lots of plants for them to feel secure definitely helps!
Such a beautiful fish but I wouldn't recommend others buying this fish, just saying since its officially *endangered* now. Yeah chilli Rasboras or any hind of Rasboras would be ideal. Yes Ottos would also be good!
Hi from Singapore.Subbed!

Cute!

You think is à bad idea to put one puffer with my neons and corydoras ?
If the tank is large enough and the puffer has some areas to hide it should be fine 👍

I’d be more concerned the upside down catfish eat the pea puffers but I think you’ll be fine

Can u keep with gouramis
Which fish are ideal to keep with pea puffers?
Anything that doesn’t have long fins or is too slow. They nip other fish but won’t eat any fish

Loaches and plecos will be fine! Lily fish as in a Lily Gourami?

I think 3 does help with aggression, because you don't want one to constantly bully the other.
