Not trying to be a stuck up dick with this next question, but have you guys ever gone through an addiction and then become completely sober? I did it with multiple substances and dated someone who was doing all of them. I didn’t feel sorry for them I felt like I was being the boring one. I think there’s more meaning behind him saying “it’s depressing to think about”. Because he also says just prior to that how much fun it was. I think he’s depressed about the status quo he has achieved. He’s always been someone who is discontent. I think he’s sad he can’t enjoy things that should be fun like everyone else. He has a disposition that will ruin his life. Sobriety doesn’t mean happiness. It means equilibrium for stability. But he still craves fun and hasn’t been able to find it. That’s why “yoga” is said slightly sarcastically. “At least I have yoga”. Trust me, SOME of us (not all) we do sobriety to stay healthy, safe and from total destruction. But it doesn’t automatically mean happiness.

One thing I’ve learned from my time with meth is that when somebody says “Iv’e been sober for like 3 months” they are high right now. I’m sure it’s different when you say like 4 months though

Yeah I’m 2 years sober and definitely feel like 24 months is like “I’m out of it!” The idea of being 9 years clean and one day just being like “hey I guess I’ll do an opiate now” seems crazy, but I guess that’s what makes alcohol even harder to stay clean off of. For me if I changed my life around I probably never encounter my drug of choice, for an alcoholic you can become as “normal” as possible and alcohol will still be around and seen as normal.
