Hi Oscar. This is my fave diesel in the Hornby range. The proportions of bogies and body shell are very well balanced. I never thought I'd extol the virtues of the ringfield motor until I got my hands on one of these. I find it very reliable and strong (my 125 can handle six coaches plus the dummy with ease at a respectable speed). This Class 47 was used on the early Royal Train. The loco named "Prince William", is now housed at the National Railway Museum in York. I managed to find a scrap body on eBay which I intend to spray in the same black/red to use in conjunction with my Hornby Royal coaches, the existing body on mine is too good to be defaced. A very welcome video as I am working on mine at the moment. Thank you. BTW if you notice on the later 80s body shells, the raised linings have been removed.
I have Mammoth, got it for Christmas, not sure if it still works but I'm glad that I still hve it. The box has seen better days, but better than not having the box! I have the 1975 catalogue, not in very good condition as the one you have, but it came with the GWR Pick up goods set, that I got for Christmas of that year. So it's saw a lot of use!! The driver would have been put in by a previous owner
Hi Oscar. Thanks for showing Mammoth on the layout. I have a more recent class 47 in Railfreight livery which also scraped the gears going round corners and eventually I had to replace them. I used a solution on Dave Atkins' channel for fixing the lean of inserting a piece of sprue (from a plastic kit) and hole punched plasticard into the bogie. It runs much better but I also use it on curves of 2nd radius or larger which prevents the gears rubbing.
Great video here Oscar, a really nice range of items featured in this one, love seeing rakes of wagons running, rakes of wagons has been a main point for me this year when it comes to the things I have been adding to my own collection, I have loads of freight locomotives but very little suitable stock for them to haul, that has changed though over this year, at the beginning I managed to get a rake of container wagons and then a couple of months after I managed to get a very nice rake of the HAA hoppers, around May I was able to add a rake of bogie tanker wagons, I know for Christmas this year I have a box of open wagons coming so I will have some suitable freight for my steam locomotives, the wagons you featured in this video looked great with the 47 which also looked excellent in the two tone green, great video overall Oscar, keep up the great work.
Good afternoon Oscar, it's Martin from Hull in the East Riding of Yorkshire again I am running a bit late today as I overslept so ive been trying to catch up on my Sunday house jobs. Just watched your latest video and as i always say, what a brilliant video. I must say that I really love the blue kiosk on the platform, I would really love to have one. That's the first time I've seen one, I don't remember seeing it in the catalogues. ?. The hopper wagons and the class 47 look splendid running round the railway, the Princess locomotive looks splendid and runs well also. Also I think the boxes are always worth looking at as you can see how they change over the years. Well it's time for my cup of tea and my toasted tea cake. I hope you have a good week ahead and keep safe Oscar and i will see you next Sunday. 👍🚂
Morning Oscar, as you know I don't run solely Triang/ Hornby, I've got some nice Lima class 47's and a good rake of Lima hopper wagons some of which are loaded, anyway thanks for sharing on this Sunday morning, great video as always, John
The hopper wagons are of course another example of Triang ingenuity with repurposing models. It’s the bulk grain wagons without the roof. The chassis was also used for many other wagons. Including tanks and box vans
A Good running Session - I liked the Steam Loco at the beginning, @ 25:45 I have the same style of box & on the Right end it has a Black & Yellow Strip but it is for my R0550 LNER Class B17 'Manchester United' No.2862🙂🚂🚂🚂
Hi Oscar, “Mammoth” from this period was my First Diesel Loco purchase when I joining the Hobby around 2018,(Late developer 😉), and Runs Very well with functioning lights, but also “Rubs” on corners, as does my BR Blue from this Era, Mammoth Also Seems to Lean unless my Eyes are playing tricks 🤓😆- R 6949 Refers to a plank Wagon “Criggleston Quarries” or Similar - Saw Dave Angell at Ludlow Toy Fayre yesterday and Had Some Banter as Usual. Many Thanks 👍🏻
I have a Class 47 Mommoth, but I cannot remember how many traction tyres it has and I did not think it was 44 years old. I do have the 47 with the silver panels too. It was nice to see the utility van in Marroon which I also have. You are bringing my childhood back to life. Martin. (Thailand) RUclips Channel "Yorkdale LNER Preservation Railway"
Do have a mammoth which was a surprise in a job lot I bought off eBay, unfortunately it's missing the drive bogie/ motor and have been unable to sort a replacement so far, one day hopefully I will get it running again
Hi Oscar, I'm sorry to say that this loco does not impress me that much? It looks nice, and seems to go well, but I prefer the 'simpler' early types of locos from Tri-ang Hornby? I guess that deleting the Gravity unloading mechanism from the ore wagons was a cost cutting operation, but I preferred the earlier and heavier models as well, they had more "play value"... The Ore Unloading bridge was always a great feature if there was a 'high level" track on a layout... The earlier diecast chassis was not really compatible with the later pin-point axles, and I am guessing that this may have had a bearing on the changes too? I think that these model fall into the later era of models, that in my opinion "lost the plot" from Tri-ang's early days? I feel that, If there is steel series 3 track, then locos with Magnadhesion are what were intended? Still fun to watch though, so I guess that one has to live with the changes? It is all part of "growing up" as one might say? Thank you for sharing with us all..
Your Mammoth looks superb Oscar. It is in my favourite BR livery and very clean. It looked at home with both the freight and passenger trains. Would it be possible to add pick ups on the opposite side of the dummy bogie? That old Princess ran very nicely too. David.
Good morning David thank you again for taking the time to look in. Glad you enjoyed seeing both of those models. I was quite pleased to get hold of this diesel locomotive it fills the gap in the collection "another poor excuse to to get another model" I'm not sure about adding an extra pick up on the dummy bogie as the wheels float quite a lot by design and the backs of the dummy wheels have a cog built into them, they seem to use the same isolating wheel centres as the drive wheels with the traction tires on. Take care. Oscar
Good morning Russell thanks for looking in. Great to hear you have one of those early ones in your collection, it's a lovely model with that heavy metal chassis. Take care. Oscar
Hi there Oscar ,, these are a lovely loco as i bought a mamoth only a few months ago and it had a few issues with it and im not sure the same as the one your showing here or not but mine has directional lighting and was just a big mess of spaghetti under the body so went back to basics and pulled it all out and got good use of the service sheet for it and put it all back together and it runs really nicely now and all tbe directional headboard lights work good too. Couple of quick questions and if you can answer them for me that will be great and muchly appreciated. I noticed that at the 25 min and 46 sec mark there is a what looks like a done up belt on the box under where it says authentic OO scale model. Do you know what the belt stands for or means ? Also i just recently bought a boxed R.352 Budd Rail Car with the red and yellow stripes at each end. It looks to be in great condition too but have not had it delivered to me here at home yet as its on the other side of Australia and will probably take a week to get here. Do you have any budd rail cars or rather have you done any video's on the R.352 Budd Rail Cars and if you havent can you do a running video for us all to watch and enjoy. If you can that will be very muchly appreciated. Also can other carriages be hooked up to them or is there a dummy version of the budd rail cars as I bought 5 budd rail cars but it turns out they were Athearn ones told they were allrunnong but only 1 run and the rest were none motorised and also not triang as they were adverised. I was only back into the hobby after a big hiatus and i just believed the local seller and was tpnone the wiser at the time. Anyhoo you live and learn hey. The 5 of them look almost identical to the one i bought just the other day. I paid $152.00 ausd for it so I am not sure if that was a good deal or not but i wanted it as i havent got a triang one but i do now. Thanks again and take care m8... Cheers from John in Australia
I loved the Hornby Class 47 but sadly never had one. I liked green locos and the lighter stripe really looked attractive. Wasn't this the first Horny loco with lighted headcodes? The subsequent blue version which was on sale when I had the money to buy one always retained the masking stripes down the body sides.
Good morning Christopher the wiring can be a little fiddly in these. It sounds like somebody taking it apart and put it back together in the wrong order. It should be possible to dismantle it and reassemble and to make repairs as necessary, I've included a link to the service sheet which may be of help www.hornbyguide.com/service_sheet_details.asp?sheetid=27 Take care. Oscar
Hi Oscar, i see you have a pay wall for members only i have seen this done before and what seems to happen is this, the pay wall will get most of the authors time and the free content suffers people stop watching and other people will not pay and ends with a major loss of viewers some of which never come back but i wish you luck in your project

You should name your Class 47 "Eileen".
Another great video, would love to see through the 75 and 76 catalogues...
Thanks, Mike for taking the time to look in. We'll see if we can get a look over those catalogues upcoming videos.

I think Mammoth maybe minimum 2nd radius hence the noise from loco on curves? Anover great nostalgic video👍😁
Morning David, thanks for the info. I think these small curves on the series 3 are a little tighter radius than the standard Hornby geometry.
Oscar

Nice one . I like the 47 . I think mine is an original 75 model, although I got it second hand . The packaging suggests it’s the original one though

All your locos run so well, it's just a great pity you don't have a proper scenic layout this would add so much to the effect.
Good morning Oscar 47 lovely in two tone green lovely running session Patrick Quinn IRL
Good morning Patrick, thank you again for looking in. Glad you enjoyed the running session.
