Dude, I swear the timing is immaculate. Because of a strike in the federal educational system of my country (I’m a high schooler but my school is a fed) our bimester got cut into a month long period and test week is taking a whole week of it. Okay so here's the thing I have this mock exam tomorrow which consists of 3 subjects (maths physics and chemistry) I have one chapter of each subject and they are toughest of the entire syllabus. I have no idea about those chapters since my school was talking online classes and u know people usually dodge it off. So, this internal exam, my aim is to at least pass at any cost because I know it's practically impossible to score 80-90% just with one night of studying. I just wanted to share some of my experience rn. Recently my grades were becoming better and better and I honestly don't know how. To be honest I procrastinated just like I did now and learned on last minute. I still have the knowledge I needed fro the test, I still remember all the things. The way you apply this to your studies is by watching videos to study. In fact, one of the fastest and most effective ways to learn something is to watch a RUclips video on it, and take notes as you go along (kind of like what I'm doing right now as I watch this video while taking notes in the comment section). This is effective because it uses both your auditory and visual senses. Turn on the transcription (CC) if you want to read text as well as listen. Plus taking notes while doing this actively consolidates that knowledge in your memory. WARNING ⚠ : - Don't get distracted with other RUclips Videos as you do this. - Don't fight with someone in the comments. Just focus on taking your notes as you consume the video. Watch these videos while your brain forms connections, and then pause to write down the connections you've made (this is literally me right now lol). You can put the video speed to 1.5x or 2x if normal speed bores you, inorder to force your brain to focus, since it might miss important details otherwise. It's best to only read the chapter summary FIRST as well at the back, as it will usually go over the main points. If your textbook doesn't have quizzes at the back, then ask your teachers for some. They'll gladly give you more work. If your goal is to ace the exams, then do these practice questions at the back. However, if your goal is to learn, then read the whole textbook. They might sound the same, but their end results are completely different. Overall, don't study the WHOLE topic chapter within a textbook. Just do the practice questions at the back, and return to the chapter only to read certain parts that help you answer these questions better. You can also do past paper questions if there are any. Most importantly, understand and memorize the answer structure. Know what the question wants, and look up that exact answer in its exact format, to memorize. Both the Questions & the Answers matter. Revise them. 3. What You Can Change. You know this already; cramming is bad, and it doesn't allow for information processing. So... Ask yourself the reasons which led to your current predicament, which will allow you to NOT fall into this pit of cramming again. Your thought process could go something like this: "Why did I procrastinate? What led me to laze around and not do my work? Was it due to my annoying mother always pestering me to study? Was it due to being bored and not finding motivation? In that case, what is my ultimate purpose in life that this studying will lead to? What is procrastinating even caused by? Was it due to me being disorganised? Did I just forget what date my test was on? Maybe I should mark my calendar next time....” Ask these questions and allow your brain to formulate its own answers based on self reflection of your past. Most importantly, understand and memorize the answer structure. Know what the question wants, and look up that exact answer in its exact format, to memorize.
Both the Questions & the Answers matter. Revise them.
3. What You Can Change.
You know this already; cramming is bad, and it doesn't allow for information processing. So...
Ask yourself the reasons which led to your current predicament, which will allow you to NOT fall into this pit of cramming again.
Your thought process could go something like this:
"Why did I procrastinate? What led me to laze around and not do my work? Was it due to my annoying mother always pestering me to study? Was it due to being bored and not finding motivation? In that case, what is my ultimate purpose in life that this studying will lead to? What is procrastinating even caused by? Was it due to me being disorganised? Did I just forget what date my test was on? Maybe I should mark my calendar next time....”
Ask these questions and allow your brain to formulate its own answers based on self reflection of your past.
