Sonic Frontiers has the bounce move from SA2, could have just used that to get up. To anyone unaware, no I'm not trolling, hold the stomp button when you land, the in-game controls refers to this as "bounce"
If you played a version of Sonic 1 with the Spindash you could actually have cleared that first plataform, but you wouldn't go that far anyway because there was a lot more ahead of that And you actually don't need to jump to touch the goal ring in City Escape in SA2, if you go to the right (the direction that the Goal Ring is) in the part after the GUN Truck crashes behind the bridge before you fall down to the Goal Ring area, and then get launched by the Dash Pads to the bottom, you can touch the goal ring while you're falling Also, someone beated Sonic Heroes without jumping and flying as Tails, and it's all possible excluding for the Bobsled part in Bullet Station, but it requires a lot of Glitches and strategy (and a TAS was used in Mystic Mansion because it's very precise), with the flying with Tails part being allowed in here it's actually a bit more easier

Can't you fly directly out of the little hop you do when using thunder shoot (the thing where Tails fires an ally outward)? You even see the flight meter appear, so the game obviously recognizes you're airborne.
I just happen to be playin sonic heroes now (with some mods) and decided to try it out. After a close call on a pole in grand metropolis, powerplant ends the run with a mandatory elevation ring thing. Those that you grab and they lift you up, you can only leave them by jumping.
At the end of city escape in SA2, you can hit the goal ring from above if you line yourself up with the right edge while hitting the zippers. Unfortunately, you wouldn't have made it any further than that because Bigfoot requires jumping.
at the part in sonic 2 where you got stuck, getting the coconuts to hit you in a certain way can hurt you to the spikes, you'll survive the spikes for a few seconds, and boom. you get past it, you can even defeat the eggman boss, but you can't complete emerald hill as you need to jump on the capsule to beat the game. so in these challenges, getting hurt is your best friend.
In Sonic And The Black Knight you can get a bit farther by pressing back on the stick and attacking which makes sonic do a spin attack upwards. However it doesn't get you up. It's a little glitchy, but if you do the spin move and attack right as sonic gets above the platform you'll land on it. However you get stuck not to much farther when you do the first fight against arthur. Since caliburn litterally tells you to jump after the quick time event and you can't hurt him otherwise.
I think you can land on the goal ring in City Escape when you get launched after the truck chase but you would've had to jump in the next level anyways
i like how he put subtitles, cause i keep my volume really low to avoid disturbing others (especially at night time when everyone is asleep) and subtitles can kinda give me an extra chance to catch what is being said lol

The only team that is impossible to beat the game with this challenge is actually team chaotix. there's a large gap in grand metropolis with an invisible wall that makes it too far to get to the other side. you can even do frog forest (stealth mission) if you theoretically get past grand metropolis! other notable chaotix stages that are impossible: mystic mansion (but *only* because some of the candles are too high to be effected by espio's rocket accel.) and egg fleet (there's a wall of lasers that you must be invisible to pass. you can trigger the game into letting you go invisible but only after homing attacking... and as this is a stealth mission, this is out of the question.) highly recommend playing rail canyon without jumping c: it's really fun and very difficult to figure out how to make it work, but rewarding!
Doesn't hang castle for team sonic have a required homing attack section? (you need to homing the pumpkin ghosts) How would u get through that without jumping? Also my team sonic run ended bcuz in powerplant you have a required elevation ring (those that u grab, they lift u up, and to leave you.. well.. jump out of it)

It's actually possible to defeat that boss using only the light speed attack so Wild Canyon might've been the real dead end.

Unless I'm misremembering, you could use the springs to take the upper route and get past those spikes in S3.

theres 2 ways you could've got passed that part in sonic frontiers. A. Using light speed dash. B. Using bounce move.
You can grab the goal ring if you just hug more to the right here at 7:46 by just launching into it
