TL:DW Save yourself a month, SHE HAD DENTURES.
So did Clark Gable!
everyone had dentures back then
@@GiftSparks No doubt but I'd never seen them on a kitchen counter before until my step-grandfather's sister "Aunt Lucy," took hers out and would leave them there. I'd never seen dentures out of someone's mouth and I was a kid. It was scary to me. My grandmother had a fit!
Thanks for the heads up😂
By “dark truth” I thought we’d learn she liked to eat used baby diapers and drink toilet water.
So taking out her teeth at parties was the "disgusting, shocking" thing she did? big deal.
Well can't do it! *Budum-tish*
I'd be surprised and shocked.
I forgot to take out my partial once. About a half hour later I feel it crack. But I always tried to hide taking them out. Finally saved enough for a whole new set. 😂
Thank you !!!
Everyone has an uncle that doe this
30 seconds of content crammed into 16 minutes of YAWN delivered in a flat monotone………sheesh
I bet Barbra Streisand was sure glad they left the dinner party dentures out of the movie lol😂
Can we talk about how gorgeous Omar Sharif was😍
I mean what a make over for Nicki Anstine❤
Soooooo gorgeous 🥰
You are always reincarnated in better form on film
been said many times before, if they will cheat with you, they will cheat on you
When I had been a child many elderly people used to take their dentures out before eating something. They didn't want to damage them and were quite uncomfortable when it came to chewing. So seeing some dentures sitting beside a plate wouldn't shock me too much 😂
Usually films embellish people life stories, but my gosh, I don't think Funny Gir/Lady scratched the surface of this woman's life. I am now more interested in knowing more about her❤
I absolutely love Baby Snooks! I've listened to them all " but dad-dy....."
Thank you for posting this story of Fanny’s life . I only knew what I saw on the two films funny girl ,and funny lady . ❤
Clark Gable was known to do the same with his teeth !
Wow!!
I wasted a whole 16 minutes and 56 seconds to find out that was the “Dark Truth”. 🤦🏾♀️😂
Unlike others on thread, l won’t spoil the outcome for anyone else. 🌹
they have to get your attention somehow
No, you should spoil it so they don’t have to listen to a long boring video just to find out it’s nothing really all that shocking
@@robfromvan
😂
I'll spill the beans -- at parties she used to lift her skirts and take a dump right on the carpet . . . NOT! 🤪
A very interesting documentary about M/S Brice that shows how the show, and films 'Funny Girl', and 'Funny Lady', tweaked the stories. In itself, it is nice to know the true stories.
Thank you for this.
Bit of click baiting going on here....don’t think lobbing out your false teeth warranted this dreary build up.
Curses! Fell for the old clickbait title trick again ! Second time this week.
I love this presenter’s voice. Great story. Absolutely love Fanny Brice!
I used to listen to that radio show of Baby Snooks. When Baby Snooks died, I cried.
the ILLUSION of the Big Screen - and how it has Shaped Reality really needs to be looked at
I saw the two movies about her, but did not actually see her. Having rectified that l can only say she was beautiful, but her comedic talent outshone her looks. In a business where pretty women abound, that makes her special.
My brother used to take out his teeth to eat. I wonder how common that action truly is.
People would ask for a glass of water to put their dentures in when eating.
@@christienelson1437 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
Good bio report. Thank you for being a real person narrator.
My great aunt was best friends with Fanny Brice in the early years in Manhattan.
Having dentures" was/is not a "dark truth." It was/is a reality for many, at least in the past.
I have always been intrigued with Fannie Brice since I saw funny girl.
Fantastic! That was exactly what I was hoping it would be. Every time I click on something nowadays, there’s a very good chance it will be some AI generated garbage. Thank you for being honest and doing it correctly.
Cartoon character Olive Oil couldve been created from her❤❤
Oyl
@@daveb7811 Yep. And many people forget Olive Oyl had a brother, Castor Oyl. I'm not making this up!
@@haplessasshole9615 And let's not forget Wimpy and Ham Gravy.
Olive Oyl was created by mocking Zasu Pitts!❤
I think Olive Oyl was inspired by Zazu Pitts
Correct English: “…older and richer than SHE…”
Thanks for sharing!
All the best!
That was captivating. I'd never heard of her before. Thank you for sharing this story
see the films “Funny Girl” and “Funny Lady”.
(11:11) That's Dorothy Kilgallen as a panelist on 'What's My Line?'
Yes!
Florence ziegfeld's first name is pronounced like Florence, Italy. You're putting emphasis on the wrong syllables of his name. His first name is pronounced the same way you pronounce a woman's name if her name was Florence. There's a lot of names that are seemingly androgynous. John Wayne's first name was "Marion." You can see why his first name was changed to John. Frank Sinatra's first name was legally "Francis." Just because a man has it doesn't mean it's pronounced any differently just as a woman can be nicknamed Sam if her name is Samantha.
What the commentors dont realize is that social graces were sooooooooooo totaly differant back when Fanny took her teeth out!
That would have been a sin. You never farted in public either! Today anything goes!
I worked in the Hollywood film/TV industry 35 years ago. A fellow Hollywood worker told me a story about the actress Tallulah Bankhead. She was on an elevator with a few other people and 'passed gas.' One of them said to her, 'excuse me, Miss Bankhead, but did you pass gas?' She replied "Of course I did, dahhhling. Do you think I smell like this all the time?'
@@pinkparasollise9646 I guess only the famous could get away with anything!!
Nobody cared when Clark Gable did it
What was Katherine Hepburn thinking?! Fanny Bryce was known to not only be grossly ill mannered, but proud of it! She had as much grace and charm as a Silverback female, and cultivated “obnoxious” to a fine art. Now, Barbara Streisand is famously neurotic, anxiety ridden, and difficult, but she can preform charmingly, and was an honor for Bryce in her portrayal.
Something to consider is that Brice was Jewish and looked it. Many famous comedians who are loved today played the card on and off stage to protect their careers and lives. Al Jolson, Marx Brothers, George Burns, Red Buttons and the list goes on and on were and are likely very different when not in public. I am guessing Hepburn knew this from very personal experiences that Brice was protecting herself and had low self esteem.
Streisands family is Jewish.
What is the attraction of gambling? Because casinos are torn down and replaced with new ones three times larger every five years, because they give away so much money.
Thanks for this very informative bio.
Comedic inserts are polite and successful.
A circuitous story and clickbait title . Why not just give it a simple title or more catchy. Dumb dumb dumb
Agonizingly slow way to tell a story.
If you set playback speed to 1.25 it sounds a lot better
Agreed. Happens a lot on this channel
Play the video at a different speed
In that case, I won't read ...
And tell not much at all...😬
ridiculous video could have been wrapped up in 2 minutes....big climax was a yawn....
(14:59) There was also a third, don't forget -- Julie Benko, who started as Beanie Feldstein's understudy for the lead role, but wound up occasionally filling in for her and then taking over for more than a month in mid-2022 (sometimes getting more favorable reviews from critics and audiences than Feldstein had) before Lea Michele arrived.
Meanwhile, Katerina McCrimmon was cast in the part for the touring production, which started in the fall of 2023.
I read two biographies about Fanny years ago, but as far as I remember they never mentioned anything about dentures. You’ve noticed in the movie “Funny Lady” she’s swearing at times. Yes, that much was true, soon after her divorce from Arstein she was swearing more often. But the second movie doesn’t ever say she was in the hospital at times - soon after doing TWO sketches for the “ Ziegfeld Follies” movie, Fanny had a heart attack, and was still doing her radio show until it was cancelled in 1951.
In 1950, after Al Jolson died ( they were in the Broadway play Honeymoon Express) Fanny was asked what she thought about Jolson; all she was , “ I never liked him”.
I meant Arnstein, and he treated his kids like they never existed.
I've heard of her but never saw her at all
As always with this channel they make you wait until virtually the end (16:18) before they tell you what the 'scandal' on the thumbnail actually is. In this case it's that Brice would spit out her false teeth before a meal (in front of other people) and insert her 'eating teeth'. Not sure if that nugget of information was worth the long wait.
Because it’s not like there’s a super interesting biography of a fascinating and troubled moan happening while we ‘wait’.
@@tanyawest2017 'moan'?
I doubt that Fanny's baby character had anything to do with young people becoming disrespectful and more challenging toward adults and authority. Times changed and along with it parenting. I see a huge difference in only a few decades since I was a teenager and how teens are now. I don't think an adult woman playing a baby on stage could've left such a drastic impact on kids.
They have to blame it on something besides the depression or ills caused by corporations, leaving kids without a future and not giving a damn
Thanks for the comments. I took their advice, do likewise.
Nicky Arnstein was a user & manipulator. He went with women who were vulnerable about their looks & made them feel grateful that he was with them.
For some reason I thought he was Sephardic, despite his name, maybe because he was played by Omar Shariff.
Nicky Arnstein was not a good at all!! The movie made him look like a boy scout. It was very sad.
@@rheahorvath9274 Hardly a Boy Scout. It was very clear he was a conman and a swindler.
Dennis the menace was also one of them with misbehave kids.
(14:23) To be clear, Nicky Arnstein died in 1965, three years before the 'Funny Girl' film was released. So his legal threats likely concerned the stage production which ran in 1964 (though his sanitized portrayal in that in turn likely influenced that in the film version as well).
My sister told a story once about a woman in a restaurant removing her teeth after she ate to clean them in the water glass, we all were so appalled. Later in life my sister developed Alzheimer. We were at a restaurant and after my sister had finished eating she took out her teeth and began to clean her dentures in the water glass.I quickly removed my sister and her teeth to the restroom It was the last time I would take my sister out for a meal.
The thumbnail has her looking like a Dr. Seuss character. Barbra Streisand's "Funny Girl" movie was the second movie I ever saw in my life when I was about six years old.
A Harpo Marx video tells of him bringing Bryce to a Hollywood party and sitting next to his future wife Susan Fleming. No mention of her dating Harpo here. Whoops
I think the biggest secret was this was a DUDE...Kate Hepburn said 'Fanny has a knack for decorating 😅😂
That’s what I was gonna say! Got that Princess Stephanie look.
I can find NOTHING anywhere saying Fanny Bruce was actually male, so I'm calling bullshit on this, show your source material, proof, or shut the fck up, simple pimple, you're the pimple😂😂
It was fun to see the clip of a very young Judy Garland performing with Fanny Brice at 12:06 - from a film called "Everybody Sing" which was from 1938. This was a year before Judy starred in "The Wizard of OZ" which made her a major star. Incidentally, Billie Burke played Judy's mother in the 1938 film and would, of course, appear in the "OZ" film, playing "Glinda, the Good Witch."
Funny Girl
I saw the movie last year.
Very nice photography
Lol.....I would probably do the same thing with my false teeth if I had some. Just stick the 'Flipper' ones in a glass of water and put in my real false teeth, so I could eat! I am sure that Fanny had a nice pair of Flippers to use when on screen or stage. Many stars did back in the day, and many still do. I am sure she thought nothing of it, but she probably did do it for the shock factor too. She certainly was a Funny Girl.
Interesting, l had never heard of Fanny, what an amazing woman.
OK she took out her teeth..it's not like she took an enema in public!
Just jump to about 16:15 to get the scandal.
They should have had Babs Stiesand spit out dentures, that would have made Funny Girl more realistic.
Nicely done! I knew about all of these characters and of course, I knew about them partly because of Streisand's artistic interpretation of their connection! I just didn't know how they actually interplayed in each others lives. I actually found Fanny Brice ice to be more attractive than I thought she ever was even before Rhinoplasty. Billy Rose ...not so much.
The woman had humility.
All this complaining, she tells the story from what she had. I enjoyed. She was goofy, but entertaining.😊
What's the DARK TRUTH??? You did a great job with this--so why the "clickbait" title?
I get the false teeth & needing real chompers for eating😂
If I were at an elegant dinner and someone did that with their teeth I would probably be pretty grossed out. Evidently she enjoyed grossing people out.
Clickbite 😢😢😢
Not sure if this channels take recommendations but I'd like to recommend Mary Pickford, Liza Minnelli, Bob Crane and Georges Méliès if able too.
So glad I read the comments before I wasted my time…!
PSA: I just Google the title of these long-winded channels & don’t even watch one second of their videos.
So much for them getting any credit for trying to waste everyone’s time
I turn the speed up on the video and put on the closed caption. That makes it go much faster.
1:01 in the CC says she was born "on October 29th 18 1991). If that's the way you're going to put in subtitles, I think it would be better to not have any subtitles at all!
Many people had Dentures by their 20s
Radio shows had live audiences and were the first studio audiences. FB wore the Snucks costume to give her fans a real show. It produced more laughter, too. Logic. 😐
hello , great share , thank you for sharing🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰.....................
It took seventeen long minutes to tell us Fanny Brice had false teeth! Click bait.
"Factinate" --okay, I'll remember to avoid your clickbait garbage in the future.
Fanny just wanted to enjoy her food !!!
I'd of laughed then asked one favour ?
💞Where can I get a set of chompers
OMG HOW DAHRE SHE !!! omg omg omg , im gonna be sick ! DENTURES !
Click bait. She had dentures. Oh, the HORROR!
Anticlimactic to say the least.
THIS IS SO LAME, do not subscribe, we need to need to take a stand against click bait!
Love the old photos but waiting to tell she had two set of teeth and would swap at meal times was not that bad. Half the crowd probably had no real teeth either
So sad she was mute.🙃
Is that the scarecrow?
Ray Bolger?
Apparently, that actually is Ray Bolger (who, yes, played the Scarecrow in 'The Wizard of Oz') at 9:43, performing with Ziegfeld Follies.
Wwwwwwwwwhat dark truth?
Yeah, evidently it's "disgusting" to change one set of what were probably ill-fitting dentures for a set she could actually eat with. How dare she.
I thought she pulled an Amber Turd!
The only thing "shocking and disgusting" was the narration of this video.
Absolutely agree!!! (I couldn’t even finish the video)
Have to agree, narration truly dreadful.
Is that fucking it !! , she Changed her Teeth?..
Barbra was beautiful and MUCH BETTER Funny Girl than Fannie!
Barbara beautiful? omg.......you brain dead?
Beautiful? A blind person wouldn't think so!
it's what she did after removing her teeth which caused the controversy
SHOCKING! SPOILER:
16:30 -- At fine dinners in public, she would remove her glamorous white false teeth and replace them with the ones for eating.
What a waste of 17 minutes, a flat uninteresting chronology of Fanny Brice's life.
click bait
no dark truth at all
What's going on with these bio-pics? Myrna Loy?
This narrator is painful to listen to. She reads like that one kid in class you never want the teacher to call on. The one....who...drags...out...every...sentence...for...no...real reason.
So what If she took her teeth out. Now people don't even care about it
Clickbite 😢😢😢😢😮😮😮
Wow.....she was not a great looking gal was she.....
That's a man.
Pfft
She had dentures who cares 🤦♀️🤦♀️🤦♀️🤦♀️
