I don't know why, but I had such a problem understanding this knot. I was out pulling out some wire today, and needed to join it. Pulled up this video, and the thumbnail made it clear to me. Many thanks!
Just used this to repair my bayco horse fence, Had to cut the fence for the excavator access for a new water line and the gripples were nowhere to be found for the usual repair. Since i had no slack I simply cut both cut ends a few feet shorter and inserted a new short piece in between by putting the knot on both ends. Then tightened the entire length for a PERFECT very fast repair for a normally difficult wire to fix. Thanks Tim!
You did a really good job with this video. It is very clear, the footage is well done, and you even took the time to color the wires to make it easy to see what is happening. Great job!
I'm a weekend warrior with 5 acres in NZ. Big wind blew pines through several sets of fencing. This man is saving me real money. Listen carefully and you'll be way ahead
Thank you. Really helpful. Had to fix a couple of wires on a fence today, after not fencing fir a while. My figure 8 knot attempt did some knarly thing of its own, so here I am on RUclips figuring out where I went wrong. Thanks again.
Thanks, a nice clear video from which I have learnt and put into practice. I liked that you coloured one of the wire ends which helped me. I am a bit brain dead when it comes to knots! I took the iPad into the paddock to the broken fence and stuck it on a log and put the video into practice!
Good video 👍 Nice and clear, how ever instead of cutting the wire there we then wrap and curl each loose end around the opposing side of wire 3 times before snapping it off! Looks tidier and ensures is never gonna come undone 🤙
Correct! I came across a lot of blood along a fence line once and found a dead sheep that had bled out. Looked like it caught itself on the tail of a figure 8 knot that had just been cut off. Unfortunately it found a major artery
Love that knot, I will be using this on my next fencing project thank you. Just subscribed to see what other gems of info you pass on. I plan on sharing your channel with others on my videos and social media. Take care and thank you for sharing. I look forward to seeing more videos.
thanks for this - so to be clear - not to use this with a strainer but splicing - -slack ends - then I strainer these joined lines at some other point - cinching figure 8 and trim as needed.....could we not also tie the strainer knot -or wrap the tag ends so that the otherwise trimmed figure end "perpendicularly" cut / trimmed lines can not pull or slip? thanks
Okay, so I've been using a square knot to tie my ends, is there a reason why you want to use a figure 8 knot specifically? The square knot seems great and it allows me to use the linger tails to wrap securely around the main wire ensuring connection.
Gday Tim, rippin videos mate, just a quick question do you splice barbed wire when you need to join it and if so a video on your best methods would be bonza, keep up the good work cheers
Very good video, that wire looks very hard to work with I know it has to be high tensile to take the stain but it's very unforgiving stuff 🐨💥🐑🐑💨🐄🐄💨🐕💨🐨 🚧 🔗🔨😤🚙
Tim Thompson lets say you strain your two wires together, and you dont have enough length to tie the strainer knott. Is there a knott you could use that wouldn't use up much wire? When im out fencing I often find myself going through copious amounts of crimps due to this. Thanks for your help.
Tim Thompson alot of farmers just wrap wire around itself... is that conductive? I have been working on my fence for days and can't figure out why it has such a low current... I don't have enough slack for the knots I am using repurposed wire.... so I am looking at gripples or crimping sleeves... you only use one? The companies reccomend 2-3. I could buy a crimping tool but are they neccesary? I put them in the holes opposite and bent the wire back to themselves so they wouldn't slip out..
Tim, would you be open to re-doing this video, please? the background noise is really distracting... Sorry to be picky. I really like how you've colored your wire for part of the instruction. Thanks for all you have done and share!

I have been doing my own fencing & making hard-work of it, thanks for you advice Tim. The Gripple salesman will miss me.
Leave the tails & tie them off few turns each side round the tensioned wire, for when its a hot wire for better connection 🍻

Nothing better than leaning a few wire tires

Coloring the wires was really helpful when you see this done for the first time
Great job. So clear and concise ✅
Tim used end knots today great . Good man Tim thanks.
Tim, please re-make this video. One of my favourites. So good to see how far you've come, as far as your skill in front of a camera. Cheers, eh!
It’s on the cards for sure. I’m putting a course together and it’ll be in it.
Excellent. Well done. Good application of figure 8 knot.
Lovely job tim
I like your video. Greetings from Argentina!
Nice job. Thanks for sharing
Very well shown and explained.. thank you...
Another excellent educational video Tim
Very good explanation mate 👍
Awesome video keep up the good work
Very clear and helpful! Thanks!

Great video, cheers mate
Great video. 🙂 👍
Thanks man...
Cheers from Greece.
Thanks Bro 👍

Saved my ass man thanks a lot. Been shown it once but forgot
Legend. Thanks for the info that you provide.
Perfect, thank you!
BTW, subscribed.
Any reason why I couldn't do this one in two-strand barb? Thanks for another great vid, BTW.
Can I use this knott with barbed wire? If not which knott is best for barbed wire? Thanks.

Stronger
Single stand wire. Work with double strand barb wire.
Thank you
What is that beeping, electronic sound tone, in the background ?
I have heard that knots weaken the wire, and that it is better to use crimp sleeves. Is this correct?

Also what knott would you use if you dont have much wire to work with after straining the fence?

@@Jacksonskipslegday just add in more wire
Do these knots conduct electricity effectively? Any advice for affordable electric "gate" starts and stops?
Tim Thompson alot of farmers just wrap wire around itself... is that conductive? I have been working on my fence for days and can't figure out why it has such a low current... I don't have enough slack for the knots I am using repurposed wire.... so I am looking at gripples or crimping sleeves... you only use one? The companies reccomend 2-3. You DO use this knot with strainers, it's actually the strongest knot for straining...
Check out “fencing knots tied and tested”
learnt that one on my 3 months stay on a nsw cattle station

cool
Why can’t you use it when straining wires
There is no reason to NOT use this know with strainers. Been doing so for 50 years and never had a problem.
