      Your work experience will influence the strength of your profile to a large degree Without that it's tough to form any view, since you're still studying. Focus on doing well in your degree, and try to get into a finance related role after graduating, preferably in an investment bank. There is no magic number for the GMAT score, so try to go higher than the median for your target programs.

    "I love your book, 'Beyond the MBA Hype,' but I need a suggestion from your personal perspective since you are the expert in this field. Let me share my situation with you. I have always dreamt of pursuing an MBA, not fully comprehending the reality of the corporate world, particularly the work-life imbalance. In the first two years of my career, I switched jobs frequently, primarily in search of the right opportunity.
    Upon reflection, I've come to doubt whether I'm suited for a corporate job given the intense pressure, competition, and politics involved. Nevertheless, I still have a lingering belief that I can handle it, but it might just be the hype.
    I believe one of the main culprits in shaping this perception is the marketing strategies employed by private colleges, which are very effective at painting a misleading picture for students. For example, they promote business analyst courses despite the oversaturation of the job market in this field.
    After hearing about my corporate world experience, what would you suggest: should I consider a career change or continue pursuing an MBA?"

    • @MBACrystalBall
      @MBACrystalBall  10 месяцев назад

      You raise a very important question that most MBA aspirants don't - whether the other side is really as rosy as everyone paints it to be. For some, it can be. Most many, it's the exact opposite. If you already have the feeling that the corporate life is extracting more than you bargained for, it may be better to hold off those MBA plans for now. An MBA will more likely push you deeper into the corporate world that you've begun to question. Curious to know - if the work life balance issues are a turnoff, what was the reason you wanted to consider an MBA?

    Sameer i hv a question for you
    Having spent 20 years in the corporate world and seen the politics and hollowness of it I am more inclined to an intellectually stimulating job in analytics,AI and data science which is more strategic in nature rather than coding and implementation etc
    Most of the jobs in this area are technical in nature and so wanted to pursue an exc mba degree which can place me in the product management roles in AI or analytical field as imho getting these roles without a pedigreed profile is becoming difficult, in this context, wanted to ask you what are the options I have at this stage in terms of executive mba degree, if you can list out some options

    • @MBACrystalBall
      @MBACrystalBall  7 месяцев назад

      What you're aiming for would be a big career change involving a change of the domain and designation. In such situations, an Executive MBA (assuming you're using the terminology correctly) is generally not very effective, though we've seen exceptions. Also, keep in mind that product managers in tech can still benefit from a thorough understanding of how the underlying technology can be leveraged. This is an area that management programs cannot help with. One low-risk approach to explore would be to check for roles within your current organisation to get some hands-on experience in the field of AI or analytics. Have you already explored that route?

      EMBA programs generally don't offer placement support, as many students are sponsored by their employers. Check out our video on EMBA to get a better idea of the pros and cons. Our team doesn't help with online/blended programs, since the barriers to entry aren't that high for those - and that is among the reasons why they aren't as effective for career changers. But that's just our perception. Do check with current students to see if there any in their program who've managed the transition you're looking for.

      A few things to start thinking about if you haven't already done so.
      - What is the reason you want to go for an MBA (or MS)? If it's purely to be in the US, that may end up as a very expensive vacation.
      - Where (state/city) do you want to do it? If you want to be with (or close to) you wife, then your options will be limited to the programs around in the vicinity.
      - For most US MBA programs, you'll be an outlier. Lower ranking programs will be more flexible on the age and experience front.
      - Are you in a position to apply immediately? Do you have a GMAT/GRE score? If not, you'll miss this application season, which means you'd be able to go only in 2025 when your program starts.

      1. I have at least a year and half before joining or resuming my business, so I don't wish to waste it.
      2. If I have to stay in the job market I would like to enhance my resume with this program as my MBA doesn't do that. Actually I am not specific about MIB as such, I am looking for a 1 yr suitable program.

      For (non-MBA) masters programs, we can only help with application (SoP/resume/recos) review and not with program/university selection or any other general support. But here's something to think about. If you go for a random degree without having a strong gameplan, it'll end up like your MBA degree. You'll add an entry to your resume, but it won't mean much. Are you planning to join your family business? Which field is it in?
      Also curious to know why you say the email details on the website aren't valid. We get many emails every day to that account. Which ID did you send it to?
