    Michael Steele is one of those people that I agree with very little about but still like and respect as a person. He's a great example of somebody who can be respectful of another person with whom he disagrees. Great interview.

    Steele has always been the most reasonable Republican I've ever seen on any media. That's probably why Bill Maher has him on his show so often.

      Because he is no longer in power, he is selling nothing, working for no one. Go back and look up videos of him when he worked for the RNC and you will see a completely different guy.

      But unfortunately as he's stated, the donor class drives the narrative. At least the Republican voters were able to oust the establishment candidates. The Democrats completely failed..

    Always liked Michael Steele. I don't agree with most of his views but I respect the way he shares his ideas. He's always courteous and respectful. he reminds me of John McCain 15 years ago.

    I don't like Republicans, but I've always liked Steele. He always came off as a decent and reasonable person whether I agreed with him or not.

      I was surprised. This is the first time I've actually seen Steele speak extemporaneously, he's far more intelligent than my impression of him 8 years ago when he was sort of turned into the black GOP anti-Obama caricature by the mainstream press while acting as RNC chair in '08. Nice to see he's more than that.

    Steele is one of the few Conservatives that you can have a conversation with. You may not agree but at least he has an eye on the issues. His past is questionable but he at least keeps it civil.

    It amazing how refreshing it is to see a Liberal and a Conservative having a civilized conversation instead of just spitting hate at each other. Am I alone in feeling like if this conversation went on longer, compromises could be made, people could be happy, and things could get done... all capped off by a respectful handshake? Sad that the system doesn't work like this. Great interview Cenk.

    Holy shit... I actually have a smidgen of hope for our democracy after seeing this interview. It's nice to see calm discussions can still occur.
    I wish more interviews were like this instead of assholes barging onto a set and interrupting a segment to push their own agenda.

    As a Marylander I have been a Mike Steele fan for years. I don't agree with everything he says but I still respect him for attempting to meet Democrats half way. That's why the Republicans kicked him out.

    Micheal is so much more reasonable since he does not have donor bosses anymore. If more conservatives talked like him we would get a lot more done.

    I don't agree with much of what Michael Steele says but I always liked him. I think the RNC made a huge mistake getting rid of him. Sometimes he actually makes sense and gives a well thought out response to issues. We need more discussions like this in our politics.

      that's cause these two aren't far right or left, they are moderate (from the perspective of Europe); US of A just has a silly political system unlike the rest of the west, where they shout obscenities at each other instead of using facts

    I hope you guys have Michael Steele back on the show for a proper interview. I´ve always really liked about 75% of what he has to say and really enjoy hearing his perspective on the other 25%.

    The Right actually has many reasonable people in it like him but the monsters just erode and run over them. I disagree wit him on virtually everything but I like him. I ALMOST feel bad that his RNC chair tenure was so undervalued.

    Great discussion. Hard to watch an idiot like Alex Jones crash the stage and still find a level of common ground, but this interview helps. We need more debates that sound like this.

    Why are sensible republicans like this guy not in power? A guy like him and Bernie wouldn't agree on many things, but I think they would be able to find a common ground to tackle te real problems the US faces. It always comes down to the same answer: Money!

      Exactly. He was "Clown of the Earth" Michael Steele if I'm not mistaken.
      I'll never forget his expressed strategy on attracting more black Americans to the GOP: "Y'all come! I got the potato salad and chicken".
      Not gonna lie, that does make me hungry---but not for neo-conservatism.

      I'm not saying I like his policies or ideas (in the interview), but at least he's not shouting stupid things like: Let's build a wall, or keep all muslims out! And he seems reasonable. I don't live in the US so I haven't heard him speak when he was in power, but only by watching this interview, and what you guys just told me, I think he changed for the better.

      Hes not in power because he was the Lt Governor to a moderate republican and couldn't get elected to governor himself because MD was and is a pretty liberal state.

      Because he's the "former" RNCC. Elizabeth Warren said it best, when you don't have donors to answer to you're a completely different person. It's how Clinton warped from against the bankruptcy bill as FLOTUS to pro-bankruptcy bill as Senator
