100% agreed with you. He's almost 60 with only $28K saved. He's got a paid off house worth $300K but that's still not enough to retire to live comfortably in this day and age. Instead of waiting for his parents to kick the bucket so he could inherit $600K of their money, he should've continued to save more for his own retirement.
This isn't a money call, its a "i hate working" call where he's burned out or something. He's good enough as a realtor but wants to be a car salesman thinking he can't do it because he knows theres so little money in each one he saves. I think a lot of people are in that situation.

Something that's interesting about the Dave Ramsey show is how it's about people should take more financial ownership of their life and not waiting around for a sign or for someone else to do it manage their finances fo them, nor accepting mediocrity. I always thought it was about just working more or making more. I'm 30 years old, and I've only had 2 jobs in my life that provided benefits. I don't know anything about retirement, and I don't know anything about investment. I’m 27 and I feel like I just found what I love doing for money. Sometimes we think our favorite thing to do, is what we need to do for money. For me, I had to found what I can get excited about to do for money. The difference is I am passionate about doing many different hobbies but not necessarily doing them professionally. I found that I enjoy tech professionally because I love helping others and it pulls on my favorite version of myself to others.
Good worldly advice from Ken. If you can't share with him the meaning of life on air, I hope you passed him onto somebody off air who could share the truth with him. Money, work or a purposeful job won't fill the void he has.
I’m 40, no kids, not married, mental and physically draining job, $6000 to my name, parents have passed and yes it’s safe to say I’m lost also in life. I feel I have no value in life anymore and my job has no purpose!

Sam, You have 27 - 30 more years to work. I hope you can find a job that interests you, so that you can save $ but also enjoy life along the way. There is no point in working a job that isn’t fulfilling you.
Time for a job and career change. You need to start investing for retirement. I'm 57 years old and the next 20 years of your life will go like wildfire. It's seriously time to get focused. Good thing you don't have kids. That was a smart move.

Our society has created so many weak people on the verge of mental breakdowns. He’s desperate for validation from others - am I in a good spot? Am I doing it right? While his retirement plan is waiting for his parents to die to collect what they built. He would feel so much better if he didn’t accept that inheritance and worked to build something of his own. The sense of accomplishment and purpose that comes from that is priceless.
This is why it is important to do what you love to do, because if all you are focusing on is a paycheck. 30 years from now and you look back, you will end up like him. I know people have financial responsibilities but we have also have responsibilities to no be miserable
You cant rely on your parents for your retirement after they pass. You dont really know the status of their true finances. You cant guarantee there going to leave all of it to you. And if they get sick and need assisted living that could easily be 100k for EACH parent for years before they pass. Plus im not sure its emotionally healthy to live that way.
