Testing New Gear | Kusel Lake & Mecan Springs - 07/06/23

Earlier this year at Canoecopia we purchased paddle pockets and tether tabs from RedLeaf Designs. Due to our seriously messed up weather, we procrastinated until to July to get the items in the boat. The paddle pockets use velcro with an adhesive. The optimal temperature should not exceed 70 degrees while letting the velcro adhesive set. Our weather was alternating between heavy rains and temps over 90. We needed to thoroughly clean the boat before applying the velcro. We wanted to get it all installed for trials before our Boundary Waters trip in August. I really appreciate ‪@redleafdesigns2157‬ for the gunwale bag to test out.
We had the boat out on two different lakes over the 4th of July weekend. We're super satisfied with the paddle pockets and I look forward to putting the gunwale bag to the test during our Boundary Waters trip.
We had hiked around Kusel Lake County Park this past winter and vowed to paddle there once the water got soft. It was a nice paddle with some pretty nice heron photos, but I'm not sure I'd go back.
Mecan Springs State Natural Area is the headwaters for Mecan River. We paddle here often as it's close to Coloma. It's always great for wildlife viewing.
